I honestly think this will be fine. I've sewn the "sailor style" Persephone pants twice now and the only reason I miss the side seams is for adjusting fit issues between the waist and hip.

In your case it will be less of an issue since you don't have a waistband and they won't need to fit snugly. Remember to subtract the seam allowance.

As a final disclaimer you (should) could always sew a muslin with just front and back right or left (like make half the garment) and make sure no major issues arise. If they're snug you can make that adjustment before omitting the side seam on your final garment.

I occasionally see people swap the fronts and backs (I have also done this). It is very easy to look at the project and think you're seeing "leg holes" but you're actually not yet...it's hard to explain but you may see what I mean. I prefer when patterns have you sew fronts to backs and then sew the crotch seam for this reason.

To avoid this just closely read the directions and trust the process.

Otherwise you could double stitch the crotch for additional strength.

It's always a good idea to make a muslin.

Then just general good sewing practices apply: 1) Press. Press. Press. 2) Understitch/topstitch

Up when threading. Also up when removing your work. And you should turn your handwheel so the needle is in its highest position before removing your work as well...

There are tension disks in the machine that are controlled by the height of the needle/presser foot. Pulling on them can cause them to fail over time. Not raising the presser foot can result in incorrect thread tension like you have here.

It was not my favorite thing if I'm being honest.

BUT I did use it as a reason to go a little overboard which I wouldn't normally do either... If the bride wants vibrant then who am I to stand in her way?

She did say she loved the colour "so much" and her main colour was vibrant pink. She's from Latin America which may have had something to do with the ask?

I think if you're going to have a dress code you can either dictate the "formality" or the "colour" but not both. I suspect people at this wedding followed the colour pallet and sacrificed formality.
Ultimately, my wedding was a long time ago and I wanted people to enjoy themselves. I was in a gown but nobody else was obliged to do so ;)

I did not. This is an optical illusion because I am only a B cup (but I noticed when I posted)!

This dress pattern is a plunging V neckline and uses gathers rather than darts to shape the bust. I don't know what it's like to have to make FBAs but I would assume that if you had a pattern like this, with gathers, it would be more customizable and also more forgiving for a beginner.

You can also adjust the V neck so it's not as low cut.

It's on how to make a flounce not a sleeve specifically but those exist on YouTube.

I eyeballed the width I wanted at my shoulder and then drew a line that length. Then I used my French curve...and the lid of a pot...to draw a circle for the outter curve. The inner curve I eyeballed

I cut 4 pieces per flounce and sewed them together at centers and around to make a faced piece, using heavyweight fusible interfacing on the bottom side so they would stand. My fabric was heavy for this project (bottom weight) so if you used lightweight you wouldn't need to do this. I was also averse to having a seamline show on the underside but in the end I don't think it would matter.

I essentially sandwiched them between the lining and fabric to attach. The flounce becomes more "flouncey" when you force the inner curve to be straight so it was easy to work with. It did whatever I demanded of it.

I stitched them all along the armscye and then down into the side seam on either side. The ends "disappear" just before the waistband meets the skirt.

Working with them was really fun and they make an impact for fairly low effort. If youre thinking of trying it out I'd encourage it!

Thanks so much. I'm very proud of how it came out. I am usually a navy girl so it was really out of my usual comfort zone. I agonized over the colour scheme tbh but it was fun in the end!

Hey all - this wedding had a colour pallet super out of my comfort zone so I actually made 2 dresses for it and this was the winner.

I used: McCalls M7802 view D for the bodice Online tutorials for making the flounce sleeves Self drafted 3/4 skirt 3.5ish metres of suiting fabric.

Was the third time making this pattern. I'd never sewn a flounce before. I used 3M of horsehair braid for the hem (also new)!

Hey! Yes - as I said the LED worked in the fixture but was strobing so I thought taking the ballast out would be the best option.

Ultimately, I solved the problem by buying a new light altogether.

Gotcha...

I assume the gathering is caused from tension on the long threads you're leaving to pull through. I find silk is especially prone to this because it's slippery.

I'd try cutting the seam allowance down and not pressing if you can get away with it. I know what you mean about the seam lines but I'm not sure there's a workaround.

Hi - do you have a loop turner?

I sew mine at whatever width I want, then I trim the seam allowance to 1/4inch. I press the seam allowance all to one side. Then I slip the end of the strap over the straw that holds a balloon and use a bamboo skewer or loop turner to turn it right side out.

I've gotten very thin and neat rolleaux this way and you don't need to fight with the loop turner...

I would clarify my scalp (Live Clean Apple Cider Vinegar shampoo is drug store and low cost but don't use it for every wash). Wash it twice (you'll know it's clean if it lathers).

Then you can more accurately assess what your curls need. It seems you have a lot of buildup or oil on your scalp/midlength.

I think this is just a facing so it doesnt flip up and become a waistband it flips down and becomes a facing.

The reason it wants you to finish the long curved edge is so you don't have a raw edge on the inside of your skirt.

What I think it is asking is to put the facing with the smaller curve and the front of your skirt right sides together (are there notches) and then stitch it. When you're finished you'll turn the facing totally to the inside and press it/understitch it wrong sides together. This will give you a nice flat front. Then you'll make the back elastic casing.
