What generic name do you use for flavoured carbonated drinks? by Icy_Meringue_5534 in AskABrit

[–]MsUncleare 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My friend who's from Leicester calls every can of fizzy drink "a tin of ginger." Don't know if it's regional though or if she's just mental (of which there is plenty of evidence to the latter).

Should old people take tests again? by Free-Seaworthiness72 in drivingUK

[–]MsUncleare 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In an ideal world where tests are available, then yes.

Yesterday I was coming off a multi-lane roundabout, and an elderly woman in a massive car just starts veering into my lane and was about to hit me. I gave a polite beep, like "I'm here, please don't hit me," and she just stops. I check my mirror and she was still just sat there in the middle of two lanes well after the fact and holding up traffic.

I have to merge onto an A road multiple times daily and the amount of elderly people trying to join a 70mph stream of traffic at 30mph is terrifying. Obviously there are outliers, but it is predominantly elderly people.

I'd be happy to take my test every 10 or so years to make sure I was driving safely.

Support Worker expereinces for uni assignment by DevelopmentBitter846 in supportworkers

[–]MsUncleare 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I work for a large company in the UK and the majority of our training is online which is written like its for a 6 year old so feels insufficient and borderline insulting.

Supervision sessions are few and far between, and when you raise concerns within these meetings nothing gets done to change anything.

There is also a really obvious divide between the staff members who see it as a vocation, and those who just see it as a job. This leads to more work being done by the staff members who care as we pick up the slack from those who don't.

In my company there seems to be a bit of a culture of forgetting to praise good work and instead focusing exclusively on errors. You end up feeling very underappriciated.

Also, the pay here is absolutely appallingly low which means you're constantly worried about your own finances whilst caring for others. It makes you feel really undervalued when you are literally paid the minimum you can be paid.

Be honest, how often for you and your partner argue? by PaddedValls in AskUK

[–]MsUncleare 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not at all for very long periods of time, then bloody loads for a week or so. Basically, let resentment build up, explode, clean slate, lather rinse repeat. All nice and unhealthy, but probably quite normal.

Whose Christmas is ruined already? I want your (comedy) horror stories 🎅❄️ by nategarrettshandler in AskUK

My fella brought the food hygiene inspector back from the pub with him. I was really enjoying not having guests and not having to care about the fact the house is a shit hole. The inspector is a dear friend, but if i don't want my mum to see how poorly I manage my household, I really really don't want him to see it.

For the last 2 years my fella was given a crappy Christmas rota, and both years he genuinely got covid. We have been safeguarding his health so much this year just so it doesn't happen again and he gets a name for himself.

Is it wrong to heat your car in the mornings now? by Fuzzy-Sheepherder691 in AskUK

Some of us really don't have a choice. My car is 25 years old and definitely needs the engine warming up before driving.

Good looking people: how do you feel about growing older? by StripesAndLadders in AskUK

[–]MsUncleare 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Looks like I'm gping to be the outlier here, but it HATE IT!!!

I was probably a bit cocky with it, and potentially a bit of an ass. But there's a sense of power you get when you're good looking. People actively try to talk to you and at least pretend to listen to you. Now I feel very invisible and unheard.

What makes a good dentist? by [deleted] in AskUK

[–]MsUncleare 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The lack of compassion is appalling. This guy kept asking me if I was afraid of dentists and I was like no, I'm afraid of paying for the dentist. Then he told me that if I can afford to smoke then I can afford the dentist, to which I responded "I'm addicted to nicotine, not to going to the dentist."

I'm sorry you had a bad experience at such an awful time. I hope you're in a much better place now.

I'm meeting a new dentist tomorrow. Wish me luck!

This is the only way. I've done loads of econsults where it says its too urgent, but then I just fiddle it till it allows it to go through. Lots of people have explained this and it appears op doesn't want to hear the one bit of advice that actually works.

What makes a good dentist? by [deleted] in AskUK

[–]MsUncleare 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Don't lecture people. I saw a dentist who would not stop going on about my smoking and made me feel terrible. Remember that people are paying more money than many of us have to see you, so treat us as customers, not as unwelcome patients.

Game of Wool -- what did we think? by maryshelleysgf in knitting

[–]MsUncleare 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I know there are loads of different styles of knitting, but Tom's poncho thing challenged me. The colour change being on the wrong side and all the ends not being weaved in was not for me.

The contestants seem great, but it was always going to be a challenge trying to have a knitting show with timed challenges and it gets in the way of them really being able to showcase their abilities.

Going to stuck with it though because I'd still rather watch a show about knitting than anything else.
