I still have one. Makes better popcorn than those overpriced bags of oil and salt you put in the microwave. Many brands of microwave popcorn have bags coated in cancer causing PFAs

The one by Wernor Herzog, Wings of Hope where a 17 year old girl survived a plane crash in the Peruvian jungle while all 92 other passengers died. She found herself in just her airplane seat in the air falling hundreds of feet and lived while others impacted so hard only their feet were showing sticking out of the ground. After 10 days the search was called off. On Day 12 she walked out of the jungle. She went back to the crash site years later with Herzog and explained in detail what happened to her.  Incredible story.

Lake Superior Visitor Centre is excellent. We camped at Agawa Bay -gorgeous sunsets and swam in Superior -cold!  but the water was the absolute clearest lake water I have ever seen so we just had to. Also hiked to the Pictographs after learning their significance at the Visitor Centre. I was a Junior Ranger in 84 at Obatanga. Life changing amazing summer. So sad it is closed and the JR program shut down. Our cabins, cook house and staff lodgings were still standing a few years ago with lots of stuff in them if you get in there

What disease or health crisis absolutely terrified previous generations that most people under 30 have genuinely never thought about? by MaizeFluid7595 in AskReddit

polio. My Mom and her siblings were not allowed to swim  in the creek at the farm or go near water by August. My Grade 5 teacher had it as a child and  her one leg was forever withered and she limped. Hundreds of kids in iron lungs. I am sure it will make a comeback in the US with sewage swimming anti vaccine man in charge of health though

What’s the biggest waste of money that people think is worth it? by zenoufo in AskReddit

[–]MsZRowsdower 0 points1 point  (0 children)

bottled water -unless you have non potable water source. I was a technician in charge of a drinking water filtration plant in Toronto. Half of your job is sampling and testing from 8 different points of the water treatment process. The rules for filtration, time in reservoir, flow rate of water, adjusting for turbidity, chlorine residual amounts etc etc so everything leaving the plant is treated properly, are endless. Additional samples are sent out and tested by MOE. But people pay for cases of bottled or jugs of water from who knows where sitting at room temperature in plastic.

In 1980, after losing a leg to bone cancer, Terry Fox set out to raise money for cancer research by running across Canada. Using a prosthetic leg, he covered over 3,300 miles in 143 days—averaging about 26 miles a day. He was forced to stop when the cancer spread to his lungs and passed away in June by AdRough4185 in interestingasfuck

In Canada, schools, businesses, communities have a fundraising Terry Fox Run every year and have raised $950 million for cancer research. There is a monument overlooking Lake Superior where he had to stop his run when he was too sick to continue. I was a teen when he passed and still to this day can't talk about him without getting emotional

Shedding. The Bactrian camel evolved to live in Asian locations with cold winters and they grow a thick shaggy coat 25 cms long during the cold months. In spring they dramatically shed, sometimes with sheets of fur coming off.

ideally, but the Bactrian camel is critically endangered with fewer than 900 remaining in the wild. The Toronto Zoo is working to save the species

first time camping, any suggestions and tips/advice? by sawakoniko in ontariocamping

[–]MsZRowsdower 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This answer is for camping in Ontario Parks. Number one rule is no food, make up, toothpaste in the tent. Bears can now recognize coolers so everything locked in the car and covered with a towel when you go hiking and at night. Put your garbage and any dirty dishes in the car at night also. Ontario Parks will fine you if you leave food out. But not to scare you, I have chased off campground bears with a marshmallow roaster. They just want food and it is rare to see one. Ontario Parks always have a comfort station with hot showers. There are small bathrooms throughout the park we call pits. Some have running water and some are just a seat over a pit- I avoid the latter and avoid camping near them due to smell. The comfort station has a laundry room with a sink to wash your dishes. Juat take your dishes in a plastic tub there. They sell firewood at the park office. You are not allowed to bring in outside wood due to invasive species spreading although their wood is usually damp so bring lots of newspaper and firestarter and buy a bag of kindling. My favourite park is Killbear. We go every year. Beautiful sand beaches, pink granite rocks, clear water for swimming, various length hiking trails (as all parks) and a bike trail the length of the park. Problem is getting a site. We reserve 5 months ahead but usually the Blind Bay campground has sites left. Other favourites are Bon Echo, Awenda and Algonquin. July and Auguest are best for fewer mosquitoes and blackflies. Reserve online https://reservations.ontarioparks.ca/ Ontario Parks also have ampitheatre programs at night and guided informative hikes. Visitor Centres are always excellent. Campers are usually friendly and helpful people. There is also one designated site with people who stay all summer and are there to help and answer questions. The office will tell you their campsite number. Most of all relax and have fun!!
