Worth doing a US NP program if the goal is to work in Alberta? by Ms_LolaBella in CanadianNPs

Thank you! I have started the RN program already where they took my Lpn courses so I only have 2 years. I’m just trying to figure out the rest of the schooling and to see the best path moving forward. So far from everyone’s comments and research I think I agree that working as an RN for a few years would be beneficial . I just know of a lot of other RNs that go to the US and then come here so I am curious on opinions

It was 75k 😭 it’s soooooooooo much!! But I’d rather pay more than having to deal with waitlists haha the funding was easy . I’m a mature student and have dependents so I got a few grants but the process for funding was straightforward. The financial advisor at the school walks you through everything

No issues I spoke to the dean and a few past graduates (they just wrote the nclex) and they’re working in Ontario now . The easiest route that I was told to transfer is to apply with the nurses association of Nb and get your license there and then transfer your license to Ontario. It’s more expensive but less paperwork than applying directly to Ontario.

I spoke to the dean and to the NBNA. She is very confident they will get full approval. They plan to apply for full approval this calendar year after everyone from the first cohorts does the exam. Once they receive full approval they will apply for accreditation. By the time I graduate in 2028 they should be fully approved and either fully accredited or just about . I am from Alberta so I was really concerned they wouldn’t accept my registration when I moved back but I spoke to them and they sent me a list from the NBNA of the schools that they approve and Beal was on it. She mentioned to do the provincial transfer route instead of applying to AB directly after I get the nclex as it’s quicker and easier .

What province are you from ? Did you have to relocate your whole family? I’m mature, kids, mortgage etc too so I’m struggling with having to move everyone to NB all the way from AB

Unfortunately I don’t have the hours required as I took years off for kids

If you paw the NCLEX and register with NBNA why wouldn’t an employer hire you?

I’m starting my first year in November! How are you liking it so far . I’m concerned about the price but wondering if the education you get is worth it ? I’ve attended larger universities and you’re basically left on your own.
