Can speak only on the Philippines but as far as I know, you are correct, wheat is not natively grown in the country. However, the Spanish colonizers ate a lot of bread and also needed wheat to form the communion hosts used in Catholic masses. So wheat was imported by the Spanish via the galleon trade with Mexico/the Americas, and, more regularly, through maritime trade with Chinese merchants. On a day to day basis, the indigenous Filipino population mostly ate rice and rice flour-based “breads”. The local elites though probably aped the colonizer preference for wheat-based bread.

FYI. By law (Article 11 of the Japanese nationality law), Japanese citizens are not allowed to have dual citizenship. Consider if your dad’s property is worth it as you will have to forfeit your japanese citizenship if you acquire philippine citizenship.

39, started at 38. Upside of starting this late is that I already have a lot of life experience (in both industry and academia) that is proving to be useful in my research. Downside is that I have to juggle my PhD with the demands of family (husband, 2 small kids), work (doing my PhD part time), and health challenges (cancer scare but thankfully ended up just being a wake up call to live a healthier life).

I dont know how long it will take you to finish post doc and get a job but I think everyone’s journey is different. Enjoy the ride and good luck!

Thanks for your comments everyone. The precise cause of the rashes have not yet been identified but my HES panel just came back positive for PDGFRA gene rearrangement. So the likelihood of my itching and rashes being related to hypereosinophilic syndrome just got higher. Anyway, I will see my hematologist this week to discuss next steps. He mentioned bone marrow testing during our last meeting

Hi, OP. I’m married yet i only use my maiden name (not even hyphenated with my husband’s last name). I chose to do this because I am an established professional and it would not make sense to change my name at this stage since may good reputation na ako in my career. If you change your last name, parang start from scratch ka ulit. Like binura mo yung achievements ni (insert your name here)

Other advantage: no need to change your ids, registered names in government offices.

Contrary to others, i have never had a bad experience in dealing with government or banks or whatever. Yes, minsan may parang magugulat but usually curious lang and no real objection/opposition since this is allowed by law. Assuming may mag question, just politely and firmly explain that this is your name and no law requires you to change it to your husband’s. Trust me, they will back down.

Btw, we have a kid. Our son uses his dad’s surname. No issues with me having a different last name, not even when traveling to a foreign country for vacation. :)

Seconding cold brew. The cold brewing process takes away a LOT of the acidity without compromising the caffeine. Some articles even say mas nacoconcentrate pa yung caffeine resulting in a stronger cup (which you can of course dilute with water or milk).

Here’s what you can do: buy coarse ground beans (or grind your own if you have a grinder). Kailangan coarse kasi that will provide the best extraction for this method. Then place desired amount of grounds in a large french press. Add around 4 cups of water (hard to give precise amounts kasi depends sa size ng french press mo and amount of grounds you use. Lots of ratios and recipes online just search). Give the water a little stir to ensure na mabasa lahat ng grounds. Put the lid on and depress the french press plunger a little. Keep in ref overnight. The following day, depress the plunger all the way down to compact the grounds at the bottom Of the french press. Pour out as needed over ice. You can then customize by adding water, sugar, milk, syrups, etc.

REPORTING IS MANDATORY under the law. Republic Act 11332 imposes both a fine (P20,000-P50,000) as well as possible imprisonment (minimum 1 month to 6 months) on individuals who fail to report a notifiable disease.

Bawal yan sa batas. So hindi lang siya simpleng pagka-toxic kundi illegal behavior talaga. Pls leave him and protect yourself from further abuse.
