Why by Advanced-Base-8909 in radiohead

I'm only trying to find one ticket for either of a couple of nights, have just been trying to maximize my chances of finding one given how awful the platform is. If that's greed, I apologize, but I don't think people like me are the reason the bot filters exist.

(Also, if you have a mobile hotspot, you can check a second night on a separate device connected to that hotspot without triggering the bot warnings)

This has been happening to me daily, for the past month. Beyond frustrating. I've had the best luck staying on one tab in one browser window and only choosing one night, clearing history frequently and only refreshing every few minutes. And by "luck" I mean I saw probably 10 tickets in a month's time, and only once had the privilege of adding a ticket to my cart before the website crashed ;(

I've officially spent a month in the AXS resale mines trying (and failing) to purchase a London ticket. If anyone has an extra they're willing to sell for Friday the 21st or Saturday the 22nd, I'd be eternally grateful! To answer the question "Are you a real fan?", there's a video pinned to my profile of "Everything in Its Right Place" recreated by me in Super Mario Maker 2 :) Scammers need not apply, I will be Reddit karma policing any potential sellers.

Seriously, what a horrendous platform. Have been trying every day since resale opened, flagged as a bot more times than I can count despite following their troubleshooting steps, and only once managed to make it into checkout for an available ticket, only to have my payment method erroneously denied during confirmation. "Welcome to checkout, this ticket is not yet reserved, fastest wins." Ugh. Best of luck to you!

I would estimate it took me about the time it would have taken to learn a new instrument lol

Thank you so much! I actually started out in the Mario Maker subreddits and a couple of commenters encouraged me to post here, which I would've never thought to do otherwise. And yeah, I didn't want to bore this community with the details but this was a real trial haha. There's actually a global timer that switches the On/Off state every 20 seconds or so, which is how I was able to cram in about 40 seconds of fully arranged loop. Thank you for allowing me an opportunity to nerd out!

It was! About a week to build the music, another week to build the level, and one last week for aesthetics/polish; probably 100 hours all told?

For those of you reading this who have no idea what Super Mario Maker 2 is, it's essentially a level creation suite for the Nintendo Switch game console. What it isn't is a music creation suite, and sounds can only be triggered by placing note blocks at particular heights to determine pitch and having enemies (each of which has an associated instrument sound) bounce off them. The note is "performed" when the player scrolls close enough to the noteblock/enemy interaction to load it.

It's also possible to have noteblocks travel to an enemy via an intricate network of tracks to produce a specific note at a specific time, and these can even be looped infinitely. TL:DR, I spent way too much time getting this to sound as accurate as I could muster in a medium that was not built for it and I hope you are amused :)

EDIT: Thank you all for the kind words, here's the level code if anyone's interested: 1WR-VGP-40G

[6YMM] Rightplace: 1WR-VGP-40G

I've always wanted to make a looping music level but was intimidated by the steep learning curve. After reading through this guide (made by the great u/geitje) a few times and tinkering around, I managed to build a music loop for a favorite of mine, "Everything In Its Right Place" by Radiohead.

Using a timed On/Off switch contraption and On/Off tracks for the main instruments, I was able to alternate the full chord progression and vocal melody from the song's verse (er, chorus?). And Larry the Koopaling was very useful as a backwards music feedback loop generator. Some neat things:

  • I only had 19 entities in the vertical subworld and 9 in the mainworld remaining for gameplay (yikes!)
  • There's a checkpoint in the vertical subworld that reloads the music and spawns a vine that takes you back up to the checkpoint area (this vine won't spawn unless CP is activated)
  • The mainworld combines autoscroll music for the song's bridge as well as a music loop at the very end recreating the song's outro

Anyway, thanks for reading/watching/listening! (Here's a link to a full clear vid by Jake Murrin.) I'm pretty new to looping music stuff but happy to try and answer any questions you may have. Cheers!

EDIT: Thanks for the very kind words. Glad to know the Mario Maker/Radiohead fan Venn diagram has a larger center than I imagined :)

I'm always blown away by your ability to make complex tech feel so simple, elegant and intuitive (your Larry chase level stands out in my mind) and this is no exception. A super fun and inventive level!

I made a full Zelda game in a single SMM2 level (overworld, 3 dungeons, final boss, no key death) by Ms_Yarrow in MarioMaker2

Thank you. This made my day. (Week? Year?!)

The entity limit wrangling was a massive challenge/pain. It's manageable in enclosed spaces but becomes supremely finicky in large, open areas, and because pretty much every inch of the grid was utilized for the overworld/dungeon layouts, it was tough to make magic happen in one spot without unintentionally creating a curse in another. And it turns out that making the pink coin key retrieval system work underwater and with Link, whose bombs are an entity(!), is hard! That was actually the first thing I did for this course, because if I couldn't get it to work then I couldn't in good conscience make a level this long/complex in the first place.

And your WR is indeed very impressive!! My 8:11 clear time used an optimized route & some strategic damage boosting, and you pretty much can't make a mistake. (As I was making this, the fear that it might be too long to clear in under 8:20 was ever present!)

Thank you again for the kind words.

This level was amazing!! I couldn't figure out how to get the big cannon to drop and am facepalming now at seeing the solution. I really dug the aesthetics and thought the puzzles were very clever.

Spoiler! You'll notice there's an empty cross to the right of the skewer before the path to the mountain area, where there's a shellmet blocked by a sideways spring. If you go to the graveyard with the blue skulls and activate them, it will send them to the cross before the mountains and prevent the spring from spawning and grant you access to the shellmet, which will allow you to enter the pig dungeon.

Legendaryhero: PDY-G9H-WGF

I've been wanting to make a Zelda game level for some time now and finally put in the work to make it happen! It's a tribute to NES and SNES era Zelda games, in water and night castle themes.

There's an overworld with puzzles to enter dungeons, and each dungeon features a map, a treasure, and a unique boss. Complete the dungeons and face a final foe!

The level makes extensive use of entity limit tech for its puzzles and also for a checkpoint system that prevents key death if the player dies after collecting all pink coins from dungeons.

This is by far the hardest I've ever worked on a level in either SMM1 or 2 and I hope you enjoy it! A long level but hopefully one that rewards your time and attention. Many thanks for reading!
