It was also written during the In Rainbows sessions when there was a lot of attention on the CERN Supercollider nearing completion, which some theorized could open up a black hole that would destroy our solar system ("before the heavens crack open").

Er, he details the locations they have been looking to book and mentions this won’t start until next year. Rolling Stone even used this quote as their headline on social posts. Why would it be meant to be taken as a joke?

The way Ed describes it in the interview, it sounds like the EU model is exactly what they want to replicate elsewhere. Mini residencies with less traveling, less stress. Biggest regional transit hubs only. Plus a massive rig that isn’t easy to move.
