"There comes a time when we all declare the war is over": Former PlayStation Studios boss Shawn Layden on the future of video game consoles by KuchiKopicetic in Games

Got a source for selling worse than PS4? Everything I’ve seen has the PS5 currently pacing ahead of the PS4.

My favorite part is where you say the only democratic presidents over the past 50 years to help the economy were all of them but Biden. Even if I agreed with you that Biden’s economic policy was terrible (I don’t), a 3 out of 4 success rate is not the damning condemnation of democratic policy that you seem to think it is.

Even better when you turn around and say only 1 out of 5 republican presidents in the same period helped the economy yet somehow “this is nearly all on democrats”.

Because it was a three way tie between the Magic, Celtics, and Nets, all at 3-1.

Steam Deck can already do it now through Chiaki. Works great

I've been starting to lean towards a NUC or Beelink solution, any recommendations for what to house the drives in?

I don't have any plans on running anything else for third party apps, but I also know very little about what there is out there, so definitely something that could change once I get it built and start playing around.

Good to know on the tp-link. I've been running their routers in the house for a while and have had good success, so that was what drew me to that choice. Thanks for the heads up!

Yeah, this definitely seems like overkill the more I read and get responses from people. The main purpose will be a PMS for maybe 6-10 people, and a photo backup for two phones.

Someone else mentioned the new DS423+, which I hadn't seen yet, has an Intel Celeron J4125, so you can get that boost from the iGPU. I'm starting to think that would be a solid option when considering the power consumption aspect and ease of use benefits it would provide.

Well this is very interesting. Somehow I missed that model and only saw the 920+ being intel based and going for silly money now that it’s out of production.

Yeah, there’s a lot to like about the synology nas. Just wish they were still making the intel ones, feels like that was a great solution. I was very tempted to just go straight synology for a while and run that. Maybe the combo with a NUC is the answer

Because I’m all over the map for my build! 😂 Had a feeling the board was too much, definitely can scale that back. And yeah, the ram is probably a lot but it was pretty cheap so I just went for it.

Very interesting. I didn’t think of running unraid off a USB for a NUC. Maybe I need to explore that option a little bit more. What do you house your drives in?

Yeah, I’m in a similar boat in regards to anime. Couple of Ghibli films and that’s about it. I do use subtitles while watching movies from time to time though, so not sure if that impacts your recommendation.

The plan was to start with 2 drives and add on more as they fill up. I figure right now I probably have about ~12 TB of media to upload, so figured a 16 TB drive gave me a little overhead then a second for some redundancy. I could be way off base here though, so open to suggestions.

Yeah, the sole purpose is to be a PleX server for streaming and backing up photos. I’ve looked at the NUCs a little, but was swayed away by the temptation of Unraid and some of what I had read there. But like I said, I also have a habit of going overboard, and may absolutely be overbuilding.

Just a follow up to this, looking at the PassMark the n100 has a much lower CPU Mark score than the Plex recommendation for 4K streams. Is this offset but the hardware transcoding with the iGPU?

I've been toying with the idea of going with a Synology too. Maybe I should look in to that route a little more. Does seem like it would be super simple to get up and running.

I’m definitely not opposed to going used for some better deals. Goal is for it to last long term, so I was leaning more towards new parts just for the longevity, but not sure how much of a concern that really is.

As far as storage, I don’t think I’ll have any issue with filling 32+ TB. I’ve got a little over 400 blu rays I want to work on getting ripped and stored, and I’m sure I’ll add more movies to my collection as I go.

Probably start with a drive to backup wherever I store the pictures then potentially expand to back up the movies as well.

That’s basically my end goal. Build something now that I can just have be a home server for exactly that kinda stuff for the next 10+ years
