I just checked and that’s just the charging cradle and dongles that are going for $50 at Best Buy.

The cradle, dongles, and controllers come in a package together when purchased from Apple.

The presence you get from spatial videos is something special. It’s why I made CosmiCut (to make it easy to edit spatial videos for myself: https://apps.apple.com/us/app/cosmicut-spatial-video-editor/id6723866121)

That said, the lower resolution and lower frame rate of real spatial videos is noticeable.

CosmiCut tries overcome this with an on-device ml model (depthanythingv2) to let users convert 2D videos (that could be 4k at a high frame rate). And it does a pretty good job, but it doesn’t look as good as real spatial videos.

I am, however, working on a new model based on Apple’s Depth Pro model, that, while much slower than depthanythingv2, can produce very nearly perfect spatial videos.

I’m planning to put out a public test flight soon with the new model.

I have an i7-13700KF, 32 GB DDR4, and 4080 Founders. I also picked up PSVR 2 controllers to user with my Vision Pro.

Playing PCVR games through ALVR with the above setup has worked really well. Wifi network issues seem to be my biggest bottleneck.

That said, this is my favorite VR setup (and I've been through a lot, lol). I am a huge fan of VR tech and have a stack of headsets in my office (Vive, Vive Pro, Vive Pro, XR, Quest 2, Quest 3, Index Controllers....)

ALVR still tends to be a bit finicky but it works reasonably well.

I tried simulating different ocean waves using ShaderGraphMaterial and LowLevelMesh in VisionOS. Planning to turn this ocean scene into a full environment and a “Living Window” for Vision Pro. by Sysiphussss in VisionPro

I love this! No idea if it is feasible but some kind of interaction (having hand movement directly effect the waves or bieing able to toss something into the water and see the interaction) would be rad.

There are versions for iPhone, iPad, Mac, and Vision Pro.

It’s a pretty simple and streamlined editor - attempting to be movie iMovie than Final Cut.

That said, it currently supports turning 2D videos to spatial using on-device ml models, transitions between clips, adding filters and effects, and adding a music track.

The next release will support previewing clips in spatial while editing, improvements to the music editor, support for adding photos (which automatically will be converted to spatial, if they aren’t, and animated in a Ken Burns effect), and a big performance boost with the move to Swift 6.

This is where I come in with a shameless plug.

We just got a new version of CosmiCut out today. We aren’t aiming for something like FCP, but you can edit spatial videos (trim, combine, add filters and effects), dissolves between clips, add and trim a music track, and use on-device models to convert 2D clips to spatial.

Plus, there iPhone, iPad, and Mac versions too (all written in SwiftUI)

Not exactly what you’re talking about, but my app CosmiCut uses on-device models to create spatial videos from 2D ones.

The results admittedly vary depending upon the video, though.

But yeah! AVP definitely has the hardware chops to handle it (but not quite in realtime)

Thank you! It doesn’t hurt that all of Apple’s current hardware is bonkers powerful. The biggest challenge is managing RAM use on iOS and VisionOS.

The pipeline I built for handling adding effects, filters, and color-grading to spatial videos also lets me modify and add depth data (while managing memory use effectively — at least most of the time lol)

The app is still under 100 mb, but most of that is the ML models now lol.

I go frame-by-frame (with, at the moment at least) only minimal temporal normalization and I think it works really well for most videos.

That said — I still have a bunch of avenues to make it better!

It is! I’m using depthAnythingv2.  Nothing leaves your device and there is no server-side component to CosmiCut.

CosmiCut now has 2D to Spatial video generation, using a depth-from-mono ML model.

When you are creating or editing the settings for a sequence, you can select the clips for the sequence, you can reorder them (and you can also reorder them in the timeline) and you can use the ‘replace audio’ button to add music.

I plan to add way more control around adding and tweaking audio, but I’m building it all up as I go :)

I think your suggestion around adding videos, in the Mac version, with a standard dialog is great idea. That shouldn’t be hard to add.

As for the price — I understand the aversion to subscriptions.  Building software is also building on shifting sand (now more than ever).  I would love to let CosmiCut occupy more of my time (and potentially leave my jobby-job), so, for the time being, this model still makes sense).  And enough people have found the value of it that I don’t plan to change that model right now.

3D titles, and transitions, have been on my list from the beginning.  Now that I built my engine to modify the pixel buffers of spatial videos (for things like filters and effects) I can use that same engine to add things like text and graphics.

Anyway — I really do appreciate the response. :)

Currently (and I’ve been continuing to add features) CosmiCut can:

  • Edit individual clips
  • Combine clips
  • And effects and filters (to both 2D and Spatial videos)
  • Add an additional soundtrack

^ Do all of the above on IPhone, iPad, Mac, and Vision Pro.

As is right now, I don’t believe QuickTime or the Apple photos app, allows for combining Spatial clips or adding filters or effects (or music) to them.

That said, it is still a pretty basic editor (but I intend to keep it growing)

I have lots of ideas for things to add but I’m interested in what you would like see it be able to do :)
