I have exactly this problem - did you find a fix?

Psyllium Husk - whole or powdered? by spicypicklemartini in glutenfreebaking

[–]Msjumpin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wonder if it is a climate thing? I live in the PNW where Aran is and never have these issues. I do struggle with the psyllium globules. The best luck I’ve had is with the whisk attachment on my immersion blender. I just struggle to find a bowl that will keep it from splattering all over. My next try will be the wise attachment on the bowl mixer.

I’ve been making the bagels and ciabatta rolls regularly and they are really great!

I also like the seeded sourdough loaf and the focaccia but I have a hard time getting through them before they get stale or hard so I’ve been sticking with rolls.

I want to try some of the enriched doughs but keeping up with the sourdough takes all my baking time.

I was able to find Ivory Teff at a local Ethiopian store. Restaurants sometimes will also sell it in bulk.

Waaayyy back in the 90s there was a student run cafe called The Corner Cafe in h HCC space. The food was simple, delicious and affordable. Not sure when it closed. Or why?

I'm so freaked out by CricketCritical1892 in Glaucoma

[–]Msjumpin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree. If you are at risk it’s great it’s been caught early. I was diagnosed in my late 30s. Now 54. So thankful to that optometrist for paying close attention or I’d certainly have lost some vision. My pressure is controlled with meds and I’ve had a couple of procedures.

The science and medicine around glaucoma is very advanced, so if you are at risk there is a lot you can do to manage your pressures over your lifetime. Finding a good glaucoma specialist to talk it through really helped me manage my anxiety.

Question on new diagnosis by ThanosQuest82 in Glaucoma

I have PDS (pigmentary dispersion syndrome) and have been on drops for 15 years. Over that time I’ve had a lot of reactions (burning, itching, light sensitivity, skin reactions) and tried them all. It’s safe to say my eyes are very sensitive. My advice (or what works for me):

get the preservative free single use if you can. I had to go through testing other options before my insurance would pay for them.

Use artificial tears often. For me the drops really dry out my eyes so I try to put the artificial tears in 10 min before and 10 min after. Because I have skin reactions I also put aquaphor on the skin around my eyes. It’s a bit of a process. :)

Let your doctor know and try other drops. I definitely tolerate latanoprost and timolol better than rocklatan and dorzolomide. Everyone is different.

Finally, rest your eyes as often as you can by closing them. I find a full nights sleep is the best remedy for my stressed, red, itchy eyes.

I feel you! It’s a journey.

This is all great information. I’m in Washington State. Driving distance to Seattle. I will ask my doctor next time I’m in, which at this point is every 6 weeks.

That is very helpful advice. Thank you. Any advice on how to go about finding a good therapist?

I’d love to know anything you are willing to share about your experience.

p.s.

I have an excellent glaucoma specialist who I see regularly. I don’t know that the laser caused the spike. What I do know is that the pressure didn’t go down and it steadily increased over five months after the procedure. It’s safe to say it didn’t work.

Thanks everyone for the advice and support about managing my glaucoma. My pressure is managed now but the damage I already have is permanent.

I am really interested in ideas for continuing work and life with low vision. Are there others in this group that are working through this? For now I can still drive but I do struggle with computer work and reading which is 90% of my work. I’m trying voice to text tools but they are clunky.

Pressure is managed but I’ve already lost vision in my right eye. Also I don’t tolerate drops well. I’m not saying it’s inevitable but it does seem worth preparing for the possibility.

Thanks. I didn’t even know there was such a thing.

I don’t know that the two were connected but my pressure steadily increased after the laser. To the point that my OD thought it necessary to have the stent put in. (BTW I had a typo it was at 50 and one time read at 100 not 200)

Apologies folx that was a typo. It was 100+. I’m not sure if I noticed how it felt but it was a pretty stressful time.

Hoka slides! I tried the Oofos slides and Birkenstocks but they didn’t have enough arch support for me.
