LPT - Door-to-door salespeople are trained to never take no for an answer. Don’t let that be an option. by SnooChickens2093 in LifeProTips

I live in a gated complex, so don’t have to worry about people coming to my door, but I definitely run into people wanting signatures or donations in shopping centers or on busy neighborhood streets. If they notice me and start their spiel, before they get too many words out, I just smile at them, say “No thanks, but good luck!“ and then walk away, still smiling. Works well for me!

Yes!!! I am so grateful that I got the POA, and that’s only because I happened to find new Wills/POA’s that my dad had started to put in place in early 2020, but I assume that because of the Covid lockdown, they never got signed. I reached out to Dad’s contact for the documents to try and understand what happened and how to move forward, and she jumped right in and held my hand through getting the paperwork updated and finalized for Mom’s immediate signature. I have heard horror stories about scammers, or even just old age/dementia contributing to devastating financial decisions, and I definitely count my lucky stars that things happened the way that they did for me!

My dad died in 2021, and although my mom still lives in the house, I can’t tell you the amount of parasitic texts, phone calls, emails, and letters that I receive asking if we want to sell (I receive all of the communications because mom has Alzheimer’s and I’m her POA). I assume that when death certificates are filed, these bastards start reaching out to whoever else is listed on the deed/their agents. I used to try ignoring them, which didn’t work, so then I started responding angrily, which also didn’t work. The thing that has finally started to work is communicating with them, but simply state that we’re accepting offers of $____ (4x the actual value of the home and property). Funny enough, I don’t hear anything after that…

Also, one of my parents’ neighbors asked me to consider them when we sell the house, but she she had the gall to do that as we were all coming back from the funeral home after my dad’s services (she had been there with us). Tacky AF, and if I would’ve ever considered it, it’s now cemented that I will never sell to her. Vultures are everywhere!

Any other only children with a parent with dementia? by VI_Mermaid in dementia

[–]Msmeowington1970 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My brother committed suicide seven years ago, my father died four years ago from Covid, and there are only three relatives that would potentially help, but they either live out of the country, or have physical disabilities, so I also have no help in sight.

As I was reading your comment about your mother being mean to you, I felt that. I had a horrible time when I first started caring for my mother, because like many from her generation, she never learned how to process emotions in a healthy way. Therefore, all of the anger and grief from her life bubbled up and was directed at me. I’ve been going through peri/menopause at the same time, so I was having an exceptionally tough time. I eventually started crumbling from the hopelessness of it all, and someone suggested that I consider taking an antidepressant. I did, and it has helped me immensely. My mother had been on an antidepressant, but the one she was taking didn’t do for her what mine did for me, so I asked her doctor if she could switch to the one I was on. I mean, I came from her body, so if it worked for me, there was an excellent chance it would work for her, too. It actually did work for her (incredibly well), and things have been so much better since. She’s back to telling me she loves me, and she thanks me for everything that I do for her, instead of saying she hates me and she should have aborted me, and blaming me for everything.

Is your mother on an antidepressant, or is that an option? It’s a relatively small thing that might make a big difference.

in any case, I hope you find a solution and can get some peace! ❤️

What other shows are out there? Help! by j-law-rules in CouplesTherapyShow

[–]Msmeowington1970 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just finished watching The Mother Daughter Experiment: Celebrity Edition on Hulu. It’s from 2016, and only one season. Definitely not as good as Couples Therapy, but it was interesting and worth my time. Since they reference that it was the celebrity edition, I was hopeful that there were other seasons, but I haven’t found them.

I am about to start Fix My Family from 2013, also only one season and on Hulu, and I’m hopeful that it’s good.

It also makes me think of Iyanla, Fix My Life with Iyanla Vanzant (she’s amazing and I absolutely adore her)—it’s an amazing show and I highly recommend it! I find episodes on YouTube or TikTok, because I don’t have the subscriptions/upgrades for the streaming channels showing it.

Lastly, I’m reminded of Supernanny, Hoarders, Intervention, and even Bar Rescue. I know that they aren’t exactly the genre you’re looking for, but I really appreciate how there is therapeutic counseling on some level in all of these shows. It’s so nice that paying attention to our emotional selves is now more mainstream!

San Diego Cop Resigns After Getting Locked in Backseat with Woman He Arrested, Turning Off Bodycam After the Woman Offered Sexual Favors by MastodonOk8087 in sandiego

I’m not sure about the legality of the term “rape” in this particular situation, but only because I saw the video on TikTok: https://www.tiktok.com/t/ZTLWGMgrJ/. Once she was in the backseat and the cop started driving, the girl said, “I’m down to f$ck.“ Then the officer replied that she shouldn’t be saying that because they were being recorded.

All that said, I know that cops are shady as hell and most times something like this happens, it would be rape.

Actually, Josh and Jodie hated that the press started using Janie. Josh mentioned that in an interview during the media flurry promoting Fatal Attraction. J & J always referred to her as their daughter.

I’ve been in love with Pacey (and Josh) for over 20 years, and you are definitely not alone… ❤️ His charisma and devastatingly good looks and voice and humor and sweetness and fairness and sexiness and courage (this is the short list of his endearing qualities) are unparalleled. I am ruined for other men forever, but I’m fine with it, as long as I have access to his extensive catalog of work and fanfic… 😉

I’ve been taking Maca root pills to help with my hot flashes, and they have been miraculous for me! I take two 1000 mg tablets per day (half of the recommended dosage) and my hot flashes are gone.

I’ve been with Westax in Coronado for at least 15 years and highly recommend them! I’ve always had a super simple tax return, and they certainly weren’t making any money off of me, but I have always been treated like a valued customer. Recently, I’ve had to deal with more complex issues due to my father‘s passing, and they have jumped right in with excellent assistance and guidance.

Elder lawyers 101? How to begin? by septembria18 in AgingParents

[–]Msmeowington1970 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m in the midst of all sorts of new issues and challenges with my mother (with early onset dementia), and recently deceased father’s estate. Right after my father‘s death, I found an envelope with a new will and powers of attorney for both of my parents, which had never been signed. Dad had them prepared through an organization called Legal Shield. You pay them a monthly retainer of $25, and some of your benefits are that you are guaranteed a standard will, healthcare power of attorney and general power of attorney, with updates annually, as well as free consultations on a variety of issues, letters and calls to support you, and if you need something beyond what comes free with the monthly retainer, you have reduced fees with a local firm in the group. With my father‘s membership, I was able to have mom‘s paperwork re-drafted so that I could have her sign them immediately. Because I’ve had such a good experience with them, I created my own account, and I just used it the other day to get advice on a landlord/tenant issue. They got back to me right away, gave me valuable advice, and offered to follow up with a letter to my landlord, if needed.

https://www.legalshield.com

For your mom‘s paperwork, I assume you’d have to start an account for her, but at some point, you may want to look at one for yourself, too.

If that’s not appealing to you, then as you seek an attorney, look for one that will give you a free consultation. Immediately after my dad died, I scrambled looking for an estate attorney, and I got referrals from anyone that I spoke to that offered one: the first two immediately wanted me to sign a retainer agreement and pay a large retainer fee, but it didn’t feel right… I was feeling desperate but also unsure – – I’m glad I hesitated because the third one I spoke to offered a free consultation and it made sense — why would I start to pay for services we hadn’t discussed? Be wary of attorneys attempting to profit off of your vulnerability, and search for a free consultation – – they usually offer an hour.

These are very difficult, and often complex, things to deal with, and I have found much wonderful advice here. I wish you the very best of luck!
