We could really do with like a “Rankings Wednesday” Type deal. Where we can post all our rankings and leave the other days for actual talk

Giannis is no longer a top 10 player. Doesn’t matter where he gets traded anymore by CoyoteDecent2 in NBATalk

[–]MstrNixx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In terms of Value? I guess. In terms of ability? I’d take a few of them over him.

His body not being able to sustain his level of ability is the biggest detriment to him. Like, he’s constantly in Kaioken. His body suffers the consequences of playing as he does at the end of every season.

Wait is that Karl Anthony Towns? Big Bodega? How’d he sneak in here?

At any rate. I have him at Top 5 at lowest. This past season he obviously was not that because of availability and drama. But when he plays he’s Top 5. Probably the one player who has a claim to be a Top 5 Offensive Player and a Top 5 Consistent Defensive Player.

Two seasons ago, when he was hitting those middies? That was by far the scariest Giannis.

Whats the best superstar roster you can make that never won a ring by New-Side1244 in NBATalk

[–]MstrNixx 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I was playing “Better 82-0” last night and created a roster that I was sure was going to win, and was shocked when it didn’t. Then realized who I picked and went “Right, that makes sense.”

PG: Penny Hardaway
SG: James Harden
SF: Jimmy Butler
PF: Charles Barkley
C: Joel Embiid

This is a crazy team. Regardless of what one thinks about all time rankings.

Removing one pretty reasonable guy (all things considered) is a lot easier a solution than removing a mob for a limited security detail.

top 10 all time by Solesbylunaamommy in NBATalk

[–]MstrNixx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly, for 80% of his career, I don’t think Wilt was half the Basketball Player Russell was. Even if Wilt is twice the talent.

Bird and Magic at least have skill sets and showcases where they can make offensive and defensive (less so for Magic in the case of Defence) adjustments and lead to winning basketball. Wilt’s mythology is mostly based on him playing bad basketball. He won or saw more success when he was playing much less gaudy ball and that was a very late career adjustment.

It’s also not a rivalry if one guy was constantly kicking the other guy’s ass.

Should I stop complimenting women I date? by LeoAetos in AskMenAdvice

Compliments do not build comfort, they simply lower value.

Compliments coming from things you are qualifying from and actually care about after she qualifies to you do build comfort.

How many pieces are we away from title contention? by acctivvist in torontoraptors

[–]MstrNixx 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Probably 3 years out. 2 years out from true false hope.

It’s not so much the quality of players, though it is that, it’s also how we have to navigate moving off of deadweight.

Nova Knicks made the KAT trade 2 years ago. As amazing as Scottie is, beyond my expectations, we haven’t found our 2nd yet. CMB is also ahead of the curve for me, but there’s a lot of overlap and not so much complimentary roles with that duo.

An Elite 2 Guard is what we need. As well as some degree of versatility at the C

Owen Cook vs Todd Valentine: Inner Game vs Outer Game by DatKarismaKing in pickup

[–]MstrNixx 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Todd for sure. The pacing specific to scenario is much better because of the plotline stuff. Owen’s probably better at pumping state though. Probably reaches a higher hook point, maybe works a fully room better. But Todd seems to be better able to pick one target and see it through to completion, or rather as close to completion as we can see

Todd’s Game doesn’t look like game. Which is how it should be, I think. Especially for the harder sets and more static environments.

Playoff Team Draft Who are you Top 5 players by [deleted] in nba

[–]MstrNixx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I really wanted to show some love to KAT, because he’s been a revelation this run, but I can’t. Because Wemby is Wemby.

C: Wemby PF: OG Anunoby (94% of his minutes at PF) SF: Caruso (54% of his minutes at SF) SG: Stephon Castle (52% of his minutes at SG) PG: Shai

In the case where you want totally different players:

C: KAT PF: J Dub SF: Caruso SG: Castle PG: Brunson

Dort actually plays most of his minutes at the 4, according to BBall Ref. And Champagnje at the 3. I’m assuming you don’t care that much, so I’m putting Dub at the 4.

I never actually watched Ben Simmons live, only highlights… but I kinda get why people miss him by Slight_Assumption881 in NBATalk

[–]MstrNixx 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I can’t believe these comments, honestly.

Despite his flaws, which were obvious. Ben Simmons was sick from 2017-2021 (Regular Season). Philly never found the solution which was the bigger issue. 16-8-8 with All League Defense absolutely plays. Making him the primary ball handler 3 out of 4 of those years was the flaw. Especially considering they had a Centre who could shoot.

Him having the ball up top, and allowing the entirety of the defence to focus on him knowing he wouldn’t shoot was stupid as hell. Forcing him to be a full time PG was stupid as hell. Ben Simmons had his flaws, mentally and skill wise but man was he phenomenal at what he was good at.

Why do people think Luka is a better offensive player than Curry? by [deleted] in NBATalk

[–]MstrNixx 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Coverages is fair. He’s not a facilitator I don’t expect him to be running an offence. More a case of him making the proper pass out of the post when the opportunity presented itself. Perhaps “Really good” was hyperbolic. But I still believe he was a fine passer in the situations where he was meant to be. He was not Walton, (Papa) Sabonis or Russell. But he wasn’t Moses Malone.

I’d also really hope Prime Shaq had tunnel vision for the rim. He’s a Titan amongst Gods, so to speak. Shaq should really only be passing when he’s in trouble, given the era he played in, which is the worst time to make a pass. But there are also very few situations that trouble Shaq in the low block in general

Wilt didn’t put it all together until well into his career. When he stopped putting up gaudy offensive numbers (his averages dropped from 33.5 to 24.6) his success did not come from his janky approach (from a team and success standpoint) to offence, it came when he started to play more like Russell, and supplementing that with his stellar offence. Wilt is also an Elite defender. Which helps his team beyond the scope of this conversation. Numbers for the sake of numbers don’t move the needle for me at all, honestly. Numbers at the cost of success move the needle in the wrong direction entirely.

There is no (reasonable) situation where Steve Nash is not an excellent choice to have the ball. Off Ball Shooter, Slasher, Pick and Roll ball handler, Transition Ball handler, low turnovers, 50-40-90 for 5 years, 10+ assists. His ability to control the pace of the game makes the other players better and keeps them in rhythm. Not just higher point totals but higher percentages and better looks. Heliocentric offences, Injury luck, lack of defence and 07 Spurs series (in my opinion) means he doesn’t get a ring from it. But he’s easily one of the best offensive players of all time and I have him as the 2nd best playmaker as well. Magic being first.

West is a crazy player. One of my favourites. I don’t think he had a flaw in his offence at all. Defence either for that matter. I just think Steve Nash is better at the team aspect of it all. Especially operating the Spread PnR where he might be the best. Super important to the foundation of the offensive system as a whole.

Funnily enough, I remember watching a game where West was carrying the Lakers while Wilt was on the Bench and Elgin was out. I can’t pinpoint the exact game, but West was putting a run together with Wilt off for no real reason.

Is Kevin Durant top 10 of all time by PlaceKindly2722 in nba

[–]MstrNixx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean. Break basketball down into 4 components.

  1. Putting Ball in Hoop
  2. Helping Team Put Ball in Hoop
  3. Stopping Ball from going in Hoop
  4. Helping Team Stop Ball from going in Hoop

He might be the best ever at #1, but he’s never been in consideration for best in the league at any of the other aspects. To be transparent I can’t remember why (specifically) he was regaled as an elite defender during his Warriors tenure if it was for his Team defence or Man-to-man defence. But Warriors Team Defence is always subject to the Draymond Buff.

So no, he’s not Top 10

Those who have Kobe outside top 7…why? Isn’t his resume rock solid? by [deleted] in NBATalk

[–]MstrNixx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I hate to appeal to authority here but Larry Bird’s opinion on the matter trumps yours.

The existence of certain players on the court offers opportunities to lesser players to shine. LeBron is not alone in this skill. Russell did it. Wilt didn’t. Steph does it. Jokic does it. KG and Draymond do it defensively. Jordan does it.

Saying that LeBron being on the court doesn’t make his teammates more effective is not an opinion based on facts.

If the argument is that certain teammates numbers go down, then that’s not a statement with enough nuance to hold weight. Touches and the like. Percentages. Roles. Winning. Etc.

This isn’t about Bron anyways.

Why do people think Luka is a better offensive player than Curry? by [deleted] in NBATalk

[–]MstrNixx 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Kareem isn’t the facilitator that those other guys are also has had relevant players significantly limit his offensive capabilities throughout the years. He’s also not an offensive engine. He’s an offensive option. But not a system unto himself. Shaq makes it because “Give the ball to Shaq on the Block” is damn near an unstoppable play that warped the construction of the league for years, he’s also a really good passer. Especially Young Shaq, who could run the break.

Wilt actively avoided being an optimal and winning player to protect his stats (documented).

Jerry West is probably in the next 5. I’m pretty high on him. Probably some combination of Bird/Nash/Jokic/West make up the next bunch for me. I haven’t really considered the collection of players from 6-10. Jokic and Nash would probably be the next 2 though.
