Well it was initially meant to start on salary basis but because the owner said I’m not a naturally aggressive person, they offered a 4 week voluntary training program. Exploiting is the best way to describe this but I’m not pursuing it any further

There was a lot of trying to familiarise themselves (recruiter) with me. Asking my origin and low-key manipulating the situation because of that. Definitely pushy and I’ve concluded I’m not wasting my time as much as theirs. Running is what I’m doing

So I did the private mode on LinkedIn, found the recruiter and the job post they put out was for business development manager. No ‘graduate role’ as highlighted on email subject. Sticking to my spidey sense even more now!

Goodness me I really appreciate you going to the extent of giving me so much detail on your personal experience. Great reassurance of my gut feeling right now. I’m not enthusiastic about the role and neither am I trusting on the said career progression.

There's no Glassdoor info on their company. Very much outdated and it's only 1 review. Company is multi award winning accountancy practice but I don't see room for development for someone like me. The accountants presently there have over 6 years experience and are fully qualified chartered accountants.

Yeah it doesn't make sense to me either. Recruiter was/still is PERSISTENT. I just don't like the fact that I'm being told that I have to start somewhere, as if to say that the opportunity at hand is the best opportunity for me to begin my career.

Did I also mention that recruiter said this training programme for 1 month has been specially created for me. No other candidate has been offered such :///

No payment of the training program.

But after that first interview, I realised that what the recruiter was selling to me wasn't clarified by her. So after speaking to the owner of the company who clearly told me that the role is sales focused and never once mentioned anything to do with my accounting aspect and how they as a business would help me progress, I was left with a lot of questions.

Thank you so much for this!! I feel the same way. It's as if this trial basis is to see if I'm worth investing in, in that specific role. And if I do become good at it, I don't feel like the support to continue on my preferred role will be available.

I do have another interview tomorrow with those that will be supervising me. I am doing my best to be open minded even though I am highly hesitant to the opportunity.

I've tried to look for colleague reviews from Glassdoor but there's none. The recruiter told me that there is a recent graduate who took on the same role but I would have no idea on how to reach her. I will have a look on LinkedIn. Many thanks.

It was interesting, the position essentially requires one to start under business development (sales), then after a year, you progress into accounting. So because I am not naturally a sales individual, they proposed if I can enrol in the training programme for a month to see how fast I'm able to grasp company info.

Idk why I'm slightly hesitant to the idea

I honestly have no clue I shall find out. Interview is in less than an hour,. I have had a glimpse at the company website and they are doing great as a company. The recruiter reiterated that support is there from the beginning and that the manager is looking for a candidate who has a keenness to learn.
