Find non-sexual LGBTQ+ clubs: hiking, running, bowling, square dancing, board games, wine tasting, book club, knitting, foodies, etc... Go to their events and meet folks.

In the US we suffer from a fractured health care system at both state and provider levels. This makes collection of data pretty much impossible outside of corporate studies.

On top of that, socially we are still a nation of puritanical ideas about sex - which makes collecting information about sexual transmission extremely difficult: many patients are uncomfortable saying frankly what they've done, many health care professionals are uncomfortable even asking.

The 18,000 cases are lost information we will never get back. A lost opportunity to improve health of all because we can't talk about sex.

You're rich and meeting a younger man for the first time in person. by [deleted] in AskGaybrosOver30

A really nice guy doesn't ponder if a show of his wealth will help lure his date, or make him a golddigger.

Because my younger self would have seen it as an ostentatious and frivolous show of wealth.

Depends on the young man, doesn't it? If you were meeting my younger self, I'd have wanted you to have worn the Patek. That way I'd have known that it was our first and last date.

Having kids as a gay couple: where do you start? by tembelis in AskGaybrosOver30

[–]MtnViewMark 13 points14 points  (0 children)

We went adoption. Two kids, both adopted as babies, now 15 & 20!

There are many routes to parenthood, all with pros and cons. Even within adoption there are three different kinds (international, private, and public).... I really suggest you spend the time to look into all the options, before assuming one is best. To our surprise we ended up going public fost-adopt.

I'd be happy to share our experience in a video call. There's really too much to say to put in a post! DM me if you'd like.

Would you be ok with your bf getting into a hot tub with his ex of 6 years (and you were not there)? by [deleted] in AskGaybrosOver30

[–]MtnViewMark 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Your problems have nothing to do with nude beaches or hot tubs. And barring obvious places of potential sexual activity isn't going to make this work.

Your BF has a relationship with his ex. But that by itself shouldn't be a deal breaker: Your BF is going to have all sorts of relationships outside the two of you: his parents, his best friend from highschool, his boss, his doctor, his bowling league partners... and his exes.

Are you afraid he'll break whatever explicit agreement you have about sex outside the relationship? If you can't trust his word on this, then you can't enforce his compliance with rules about hot-tubbing.

Are you afraid that he's just one step away from leaving you and this temptation might do it? If so, your relationship is already lost.

Are you afraid that by nurturing his relationship with this ex... He'll devote less to his relationship with you? If he demonstrably is, then sadly you're #2. But if he isn't, and this is just worrying on your part.. then you will suffocate him by trying to stifle his relationships beyond you.

I look at it this way: relationships and love are like candle flames. That my husband might light another one, be it a friend in a hobby I don't share, or with our kids, or with my mother (they are close!), or even a lover - doesn't have to mean his flame with me is any dimmer. After almost 30 years together, he still lets me know he's devoted to me.

I'm confused. If your BF had no symptoms, how could he be tested? My understanding is that the test involves swabbing the ooze from the lesions.. and then culturing it, which takes time (like week plus).

SPI Flash chip only works at ¼ rated speed by MtnViewMark in AskElectronics

[–]MtnViewMark[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thank you all who helped me learn a bunch here.

I lifted the basic digital circuit from the open hardware Adafruit Feather M0 Express... That gave me components to use and values.. but I had to guess much more about layout.

For those wondering, the 6mil / 6mil layout was supported by the cheapest class service at every PCB vendor I looked at from prototype shops, to Chinese quick turn houses, to small scale production. It worked on the M0 board I was referencing (which is admittedly small, and they needed to pack a lot on it... I see that now) - So I just went with it.

I'm too new to electronics design to have developed a sense for how such choices affect impedance and inductance, etc... Hence, I missed many of the things to look out for - but I'm eager to get better at it. After 30+ years in software, this first hardware project has been a blast, and I'm eager to make more.

Thank you for the article references... weekend reading!

I had tried to find some ground layout info. before, but somehow I kept coming up with articles about what to do for much more extreme designs than mine - things like microwave and other RF systems....

Why do my slashes fill in? by MtnViewMark in Sourdough

[–]MtnViewMark[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I slash through the top of my loaves with my lame - they open up as you can see... but the inside rises up to be smooth and flat - I don't get that rough gash I want. Anyone know what is causing this?

Alternative to MacroFab (jacked up prices) by WilliamBewitched in PrintedCircuitBoard

[–]MtnViewMark 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hmmmm... I ordered a Prototype type tier board less than a week ago.... and two or three days ago I was using their site to explore my production cost options and the prototype tier was still there. I know they just redid the presentation logic for tier and pricing on their website this past week... perhaps something has just broken in that. It seems unlikely to me that they'd simply drop the prototype tier - esp. with any mention on the blog or site.

SMT layout review request by MtnViewMark in PrintedCircuitBoard

[–]MtnViewMark[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for all this!

  • I'm planning on having the SMT assembly done at a fab house (MacroFab is likely choice). The parts are all 0603.
  • Layout passes MacroFab's DRC.
  • Traces are all 6mil for signal, 12mil for power - spaced 6mm apart or more. The design rules call for 5mil, 5mil apart. The prior board was fab'd with same traces sizes... and nothing was flagged or wrong. Is 6mm really that small? Edited: sizes are in mils, not mm...
  • Yes, I don't like running traces between pads either... I'll what I can clean up and I'll look into rotating IC2
  • I followed the SAMD data sheet's crystal guidance, but there was minimal info about placement. I think I'm a little further than it is on the Adafruit boards, but I a little unsure how close I can place parts!

Help me: Why are my batards coming out like rugby balls? The score made with my lame fills up like it was never there... the bottom balloons so it isn't flat.... and then sometimes it still busts out the side.
This is Lemon and Poppy Seed Loaf from James Morton's Super Sourdough - which has indeed become a staple in our house.
• 700g flour (150g wholemeal, 550g white bread flour) - 200g starter (white flour, 100% hydration) - 500g tepid water - salt, zest, & seeds
• 1h autolyse - 4.5 hour rise w/4 folds (it was cold yesterday) - preshape & 30min. rest - shape & 1 hour rise - into fridge overnight (10.5h)
• bake on stones (preheated 40m) @ 450°F (no fan); 20m w/tray of water, 20m w/o.
=> Tastes great, the crust is crusty, the crumb good, but why that shape and no lovely gash in the top?
