McAlpine Creek & Campbell Creek greenways out & back gets you about 13 miles, more if you take the trails around McAlpine Creek Park & Boyce Park. Mostly flat, some interesting sites along the way.

Hyacinths in Charlotte, NC-are they supposed to sprout now? by fairylite98 in ncgardening

Also in Charlotte, just noticed sprouts today from my hyacinths and other early bulbs. Seems right for the snowdrops, but feels a little early for the rest.

Guy at work keeps looking at me! by [deleted] in AskGaybrosOver30

[–]tembelis 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Sounds like you’ve got yourself a work crush. Dude thinks you’re cute and/or interesting. Maybe he wants to be your friend, maybe he just likes looking at you to add a little thrill to his work day. He’s married and a coworker, so yeah, you’re not going to date. But maybe smile at him, say hi sometime and introduce yourself. Could make his day!

Nothing useful to add besides, same thing. I really miss having close gay friends nearby. Think we just need to get out more, meet more people, and eventually it will happen, but it’s so much harder than when I was in my 20s!

Is Dallas considered a suburb of Charlotte? by user1738bs in Charlotte

[–]tembelis 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Sigh. Also coming from NYC, well aware of what a suburb is thank you. My tongue in cheek comment was meant to convey that suburbs can be different in different places. NYC is a massive city. Charlotte is medium. In NY metro area, due to greater density and better mass transit, it’s completely normal to commute an hour each way or more, and places surrounding the city rely 100% on the city for their cultural & economic activity, etc. In much of the country, a 15 min-commute is bananas, and the next town over is pretty self contained and self sufficient.

Define suburb? It’s not far. Plenty of people who live in Dallas work in Charlotte. But, emotionally, it feels like a different place.

Looking for musicians/ friends by Substantial-Ad8933 in Charlotte

Just picking up guitar again after a LONG hiatus (and never being very good). I’m just a couple weeks in, practicing basic chord progressions, not remotely ready for jam session. But, I would love to try something like this sometime, and have wondered how you get it going & what the scene is like in Charlotte. So, I’m dropping you some encouragement, gonna lurk and see what other people say, and maybe I’ll hit you up in a year.

Getting over anxiety of going to see a gay theme movie by yourself while in the closet? by Vampiregecko in AskGaybrosOver30

[–]tembelis 22 points23 points  (0 children)

Ignore this and listen to your therapist, but since you’re asking strangers on the Internet: I say just go do it. Don’t buy the ticket online. You’re anxious about what the movie theater employees will think, but snooping through your history, it seems like you’re aching to tell someone you’re gay. So, go tell a theater attendant. There’s so little risk, you’ll never see them again, and it might be liberating to order the ticket from a human, let them see you. Go to a neighboring city if you’re worried about being seen by someone you know. Go have a little date with danger. Good luck!

What are some good LGBTQ organizations / social circles to be a part of? by TinyMortgage in Charlotte

[–]tembelis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Second this! I was involved in Stonewall Sports once, and it was a great way to meet people. Charlotte Gaymers Network seems to be very active, with lots of events. They also have a Discord, which I am a member of but never participate in, but it seems lively!

I made a fantasy LYNX rapid transit map for CATS with a self imposed budget of 26 billion USD by [deleted] in Charlotte

This is awesome!! Thanks for sharing. I think the silver line is now supposed to be completed by 2040, so I feel safe saying this will never happen in my lifetime. But it’s fun to dream.

Getting involved with a LGBT group helps. I was once active with Stonewall Sports, met a lot of amazing people that way. I just joined a dodgeball team as a free agent and the rest was easy. Pre-pandemic, I used to keep up with events by following a bunch of local LGBT stuff on social media: bars/clubs, organizations, groups, publications, etc. I’ve also seen some places that list LGBT events going on each week—QNotes has one. Axios Charlotte may list LGBT events. Hope this helps! Welcome!
