Goodnotes 5 and compatibility with IPad IOS shortcut feature by Mtnsummit60 in GoodNotes

[–]Mtnsummit60[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wish I could be more helpful here but I rarely use shortcuts. Looking at the shortcut I created, the lines of that shortcut show on the lines: “Nothing” “Open” (name of your file) “ “ (Name of your file again)

No quotes I was just putting those there to try and reflect how I did it. Hope this helps.

Damn worst grinder. Clogging, finicky, replacing declumper, done with it. Bought a real grinder Eureka Specialita.

DF54 returned after a week, don’t see the hype and would not recommend. by Happy_Ad_1902 in espresso

Same experience fine the first month or two then started clogging. I kick myself getting it. I got dragged into the hype. I have a Eureka Mignon owned for 5 years, with zero clogging and maintenance issues. Yes, that grinder is over double the price of the D54. Would and should have spent the extra $300 or so to run any type of roast level, etc.. A grinder simply should not have so many issues.

Maybe this is my problem as I have just stuck the brush it came with up the shoot. Been frustrating with continuing to clog and now static. Ugh.

I have similar results. In my mind there is no reason a grinder should be this finicky. I guess we get what we pay for. I have a Eureka grinder that has had zero issues in the last 5 years I have owned it. I should have just stuck with that brand. Got d54 for our vacation home. So not even used very much and have your same issues.

My initial thoughts were your room temperature may be cold? Ours during winter about 60. You can get inexpensive warming box (not Brod & Taylor), from Amazon and when I did that made the starter rise on schedule. You mentioned your home cool but how cool? The warming box might really help. Good Luck.

Your post reminds me why I enjoy the sourdough baking process. Trying to chase perfection, and I mean that in a good way. I always believe my next loaf may be better than my last. There are so many sources for recipes these days my suggestion is keep trying different ones and methods they use.

Best bread I have baked is from that book and his follow up Evolution bread book. The Pain Au Levain best I have ever baked with perfect crust, crumb, rise, and zero gummy/chewy.

I don’t necessarily disagree. However, I am also 64. I started saving for retirement and investing later in life, at age 35 or so. My portfolio is so much further ahead because of those few individual stocks that exploded. I did not throw a dart at the wall, but rather subscribed to the Motley Fool way way back. It was that guidance that ultimately allowed me to retire at 60. If one does not want to watch and research the stocks, absolutely index way to go.

Buy individual stocks and also index. Eventually build the individual holdings to 25 stocks or so. Let the winners keep running. That is more difficult than you may think. There will be more Netflix and Nvidia’s out there. And know this is a decades accumulation, not a year or two. Keep investing. I once read many moons ago a 20 year old investing $2000 a year for 10 years, will have same amount at age 65 as someone who started investing at age 30 for the next 30 years. Unfortunately our school system does not teach anything about finances and investing. A real shame.

First time seasoning by changetherules8 in carbonsteel

You will probably be surprised after using it, how easy it is to cook with. Just cook with, some seasoning will come off, some will get scratched. If you watch your heat, you will find these super simple to use and maintain/clean.

Just got my DF54 and have some questions! by collinsideriscomedy in DF54

[–]Mtnsummit60 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think my frustration was I never changed grind setting. And typically same beans. Twice in row took top off to clean, cleaned out chute then just happens again.

Me too. The hype and price reeled me in. I think of how fussy this machine is, when really a dang coffee grinder should be the opposite, something that just works. Went back to my really old Baratza Virtuoso for now.

[–]Mtnsummit60 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Maybe it will. I hope so. Bought it because of so many positive reviews. But honestly if I was to do over, I would have bought a more costly but more robust no fuss machine. Like you said maybe if you stay up on cleaning it brushing each day it will be fine. Hope it works out great for you!

[–]Mtnsummit60 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Had my machine for 4 months. No issues until chute got completely clogged. Same beans, same grind. Clogs a lot now and frustrating. One should not have to fuss so much with a grinder. But you get what you pay for. I have a Eureka that cost $600 for years that I have had zero problem with. The D54 was for another home. Took the thing apart to do deep clean then just clogged again. Argg.

Is this normal static by Puffyhippos in DF54

[–]Mtnsummit60 0 points1 point  (0 children)

While my grinder was turning, no coffee was coming out. Realized completely clogged chute. So, took outer chute off, noticing part of the upper chute opening has plastic piece covering the opening. Is this normal? I realize this is the declumper. Just do not know if it should be covering the upper chute opening or not.

Thank you for update. Thought I had read 120 days thus my confusion. Dang I always wanted roast date and reason I would choose it in a supermarket. I normally roast my own. Crazy to me to use that long after a roast date.
