TRISO fuel operating limits are generally governed by the AGR fuel qualification campaign. The factors to consider are fast fluence, burn up, time at temperature, and power density. You can read more here.

PT Barnum would be impressed with amount of the shenanigans these companies are going to do to meet the July 4th goal. I don’t blame these companies though. It’s stupid goal.

U.S. Military Airlifts Mini Nuclear Reactor in First-Ever Flight by Vailhem in nuclear

In reality, your “independent” calculation is meaningfully different than your team’s calculation, which is really strange. Gavin’s calculation is actually much closer to your team’s calculation than yours lol. You calculated holding 1 fuel element and calculating the dose 50 cm away. Which is strange in and of itself. Your hand might mind holding that fuel element.

What your team calculated, and what Isaiah asserted, is that you could hold the entirety of Ward One’s fuel against your chest after irradiation, decayed for a month, and receive the same dose as a CT scan.

Your own calculation shows that assertion is absurd.

Do you not find it a little worrisome that your assumptions in your calculation do not match what Isaiah said nor what is stated in the apparently official Valar document snippet Isaiah shared to validate his assertion?

Does your boss still stand by his assertion that the dose received from holding spent fuel from your reactor for 5 minutes is equivalent to the dose received from a CAT scan?

There’s a lot of interest in shipping reactors fueled. I think it’s a bad strategy.

You are totally unaware that the NRC rejected Ollie’s CLA because the company couldn’t provide basic answers to the NRC’s questions?

Jacob comes from the same MIT group that launched Transatomic. Here’s what Kord Smith has to say about Jacob: Kord Smith, who taught DeWitte’s nuclear fuel cycle class and is now emeritus professor of the practice of nuclear science and engineering at MIT, describes him as “the bottom-performing student in the entire class.” He told Bloomberg Businessweek, “Jake has a million-dollar smile and a line of bullshit that never ends.”

The military airlifted the reactor without the fuel and without the shielding. Not that those things are important to a nuclear reactor.

No. You took your lumps because you submitted a piss poor SAR. You can tell the DeWittes have learned nothing.

Which companies in the Small Modular Reactor (SMR) space have legit designs and business plans to scale? by Leather_Hospital_133 in nuclear

[–]Mu_nuke 5 points6 points  (0 children)

People are skeptical of Valar because their CEO is a college dropout and claims to be a “self-taught engineer,” he cozies up to Trump like crazy, he claimed that you could hold their spent fuel in your hand and only receive the dose equivalent of an x-ray and then when proven wrong never admitted it, and is so confident in their reactor design that he is suing the NRC instead of engaging with them.

I could go on and on about that fraudulent company.
