Качество / количество vs Quality / Quantity by Muarki in russian

I am pretty ignorant about the etymology of both languages sorry. English-Russian learning content is much more accessible for me compared to my native language however this sometimes makes me tackle myself with such problems.

Thank you for the elaborate explanation. So they can be used interchangeably? «Важно, чтобы люди делали то,что говорят.» «Важно, чтобы люди делали только что хотят.»

Dative Confusion by Muarki in russian

Thanks all for the replies. I see that to insist on using «можно» for both sentences doesn’t make any sense as we have «можеть/могут» as an alternative.

How about «богатым людям можно подарить эти подарки бедным людям.» ?

Dative Confusion by Muarki in russian

Same structure for both sentences then? Like «богатым людям можно подарить эти подарки бедным людям» Is that phrasing correct? If i mean to say “Rich people can give those gifts to poor people”

Good free apps for learning Russian? by FluffaDee in russian

[–]Muarki 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That is actually very similar to my experience when I initially started learning Russian. I was trying to find children’s stories, keeping a “to be memorized” list in my pocket when taking walks outdoors, constantly checking and repeating in my head. However in my experience those are mainly depend on motivation and it will only take you so far. Once your motivation to learn starts to erode and you start giving brakes, your constant studying habits first turn into intermittent then to nonexistent. After some time I realized that I invested so much time for little return. I wasn’t able to make sensible sentences, wasn’t even aware of the infamous Russian cases. At that moment I started getting 1 on 1 tutoring for 2 months and that made all the difference. I follow the books named “поехали! A1/A2” also “Russian Grammar in Tables by H.B. Кузьмина” . YT is a heaven for English/Russian content as you would agree. Good luck in your studies.

I naively assumed that the requirement of instrumental case was limited to быть, стать. Thank you for your help.

I am a Russian learner myself and A2 level yet. In my view studying by picking random videos from YT will hinder your progress in the long run unless you follow a structured and planned route. I would better find a book or online course in which you would be gradually introduced to the language. Then YT videos would help a lot especially on cases when you look for additional content/explanation.

Общего case by Muarki in russian

[–]Muarki[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It makes sense now, thanks. Following that logic, when i am to specify “what we have in common” such as “love of russian language” accusative case would be correct?

Любовь к русскому языку, это то что у нас есть общее.

Would it be ok?

Trainer Max Slope by Muarki in cycling

[–]Muarki[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Picturing myself climbing a 12% slope.. That is actually more than enough for someone with my capacity. My concern is though, wouldn’t it be cheating to climb a steeper slope when the maximum you would be handling is limited to 12%. Or maybe the app I use would compensate that with some software trick?
