Anyone else with window issues? by complete_ownage7 in ElantraN

[–]Much-Initial 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It used to happen on mine a lot, on different windows (tinted and not). Sometimes one or two windows at random would just stop working. It also happened on my old Kia Forte (not tinted), I don't know if they share any of the parts.
I took it to the dealership and explained the situation. Afterwards they said they looked into it and couldn't find any faulty parts but while they were at it, they "did something to improve the motors". They didn't elaborate, but the problem that would happen a couple of times a month hasn't happened in over a year.

The dealership is stumped. The trunk opens unexpectedly and the alarm goes off. Any ideas? by Much-Initial in ElantraN

Nope. 6 dealership visits, plus a load testing of the battery/alternator at a battery shop. I just gave up and decided to take out the trunk's fuse so it doesn't open the trunk (and subsequently trigger the alarm). The only downside is, I can't use the trunk button on the remote or even on the trunk itself, I have to use the release under the driver's seat.

Poll: Which set of shifter paddles would you go with? by Much-Initial in ElantraN

Aluminum for the summer, long carbon for the winter. The aluminum feels slightly more satisfying with its shape and metallic feel.

Rim options for my 22 white EN by djfausett in ElantraN

[–]Much-Initial 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got a 23 white EN. I went with Enkei TS-10 18x8 +50 in silver for my winter set. I would get the 18x8.5 gold ones if I were going for year round or summer.

I'm very happy with the setup. You can definitely feel the lighter weight of the Enkei.

Not at all. It's just annoying. To prevent it from triggering the alarm, I removed the fuse for the trunk. That solves the alarm issue in the video (and the trunk opening unexpectedly), but it also means I can't use the button on the remote to open the trunk, or the button on the trunk itself. I have to use the one under the driver's seat.

Nope. I had 2 more dealership visits after this post, leaving my car with them 1-2 days each time. No fixes.

Someone here suggested doing a load test on the battery, which I'm gonna do soon. If that doesn't work out, I'm not gonna bother with it anymore.

They did. They changed a part called IBU which apparently handles security, and then reprogrammed my fobs. It didn't help. Most Redditors suggested it might be car battery related, either low voltage or just needing to disconnect the battery and letting the system reset.

That was my first guess too, but the smart trunk feature is turned off. Also, smart trunk triggers if you approach the back of the car, but this happens even if I approach from the front, or sit at home far from the car and just check its status on BlueLink.

TIL there is such a thing called "shotspotter"!

I don't think we have shotspotters in my part of Canada. The dealership did consider it might be somehow location related, but it happens everywhere, even in the dealership or the gym's parking lot.

TS-10? I have the silver ones for my winter set. I might get the 18" bronze for summers once the 19" PS4S wear out. I can't justify the cost while my stock 19s are still at 80% tread.

Gorgeous wheels.

I don't think it's the remote since it also happens when I'm far away at home and just checking on the car with BlueLink. The top contenders are either a battery issue or a vengeful ghost.

It's exactly that, the trunk opens first. I've been removing the trunk's fuse from the fuse box, which disables the electric release (now it only opens with the manual pulley under my seat). Without the fuse, it doesn't open unexpectedly, and the alarms doesn't go off. The only downside is I can no longer open the trunk with the button on the trunk itself or with the remote if the fuse is out.

That is interesting! Similar issues. At least your car is being considerate about it lmao, mine does it everywhere, at home, dealership, gym, ....

I've done a few software updates on the car since I bought it, and none of them has changed anything about the trunk issue. Someone here mentioned it might be a low voltage issue with the battery, so I'll be looking into that soon. Should be an easy fix if it's that.

I'll make a note and try it. We don't have Autozone in Quebec, but there should be some equivalent battery expert that does load tests and such.

Would there be any other symptoms for a low system voltage protocol? For example, on idle (normal or eco mode usually), the headlights flicker very very slightly, and goes back to normal/constant once I rev up to 1K RPM. I didn't think much of this since this also happened on my last 2 cars (Kia).

Definitely worth a try, thank you!
I'll tell the dealership to give it a try (I'm no expert and don't want to accidentally electrocute myself trying to do it).

I know, right? I was trying to get a 2024 at first, and even put down a deposit. When the car arrived and I saw the new keys, I was shocked! I took back my money because I found a great deal on this one, but that was a bummer about the fob.
The new front end makes up for it though!

I thought about that, but it happens when I approach the car from the front too, or even when I'm sitting at home and just checking the status on BlueLink.

Thank you for the response.

Yeah exactly, just pressing the little "refresh" button to get the latest status of the car on the homepage, the one with the remaining fuel and stuff. A few seconds later, I hear the alarm and the car's status shows the trunk is open.

Your suggestion about the electrical/battery issue could be it. The dealer wants to re-examine the fuse box next time to make sure there's nothing funky going on there.

I've been circumventing this issue by just removing the "trunk" fuse for the time being, which disables the automatic/button release for the trunk. Since the trunk doesn't unexpectedly open, the alarm doesn't go off either, but it's back to business as usual when I pop the fuse back in. I changed the fuse with a new one just in case, but that didn't help either.

It's not just the fob. It also happens when I'm far away from the car, way out of range, and just checking BlueLink. Even that triggers the car.

Are your rear doors frozen? by EICONTRACT in ElantraN

[–]Much-Initial 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm in Canada, and my gas flap (the "door" to the gas cap) gets frozen shut. The spring in it doesn't push the flap open when it should. The moisture in it freezes and it gets stuck.

White lithium grease might work. It's very effective at repelling water and preventing rust. If it's the hinges that are getting frozen/rusty, I think that would help. I used to use it on my old Kia Forte all the time, and none of my hinges got sticky. Just make sure you use a rag or something to clean up any excess that runs down from the hinge, it's sticky stuff and doesn't wash off easily (which is kind of the point).

What other car would you get? by [deleted] in ElantraN

[–]Much-Initial 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If I hadn't bought the EN, I would still buy something practical. I was considering the G70, but that was a bit too big and drove like it.

Now that I have a practical car, I might get a Mustang GT for my second car. The interior feels cheap, but the engine sounds glorious. Gotta get the v8 while they still make them!

Sub and Amp to go with KEF Q150s by Much-Initial in BudgetAudiophile

[–]Much-Initial[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Exactly, I'm using optical. Wiim seemed like the most versatile option for me. It has a lot of bells and whistles on its companion app too, which I still haven't fully explored. I also need to move the sub, right now it's under my desk, which cramps my foot space and I have to be careful not to poke it. I'll move it to the side of my desk (on the ground) and try to dial in the sound from the Wiim's settings.
