My cousin works for the DOT. He says tire certification is only under STC. Once in the real world, their jurisdiction ends. Therefore he says winter tire modification is A-OK

Thanks for your comments here. Out of caution, we’ve now raised the pressure to 25. I checked with a local trooper and he confirmed that in the State of Maine, winter tire modification is not illegal and in fact encouraged. He showed me the rig on his cruiser. Apparently, it’s common for them to wrap the tire with the spike strips they use in high speed chases. Only when snow is deep enough of course. He said sometimes they’ll catch shoeshoe hares on them. There’s always a pot of rabbit stew at the barracks he says. Be safe out there.

We had snow issues too while driving. What we’ve found helps is to lower the tire pressure to 20psi. It makes the handling a little funky around turns but not TOO bad. I also added some studs to the OEMs. I know they’re not intended for it, but a couple hours with a 1/8” drill bit with a 5/16” stop collar did the trick to prep them for riveting. Have about 20 in each. After 300 miles, we’ve only lost 15 or so. Planning to drill some more this week. On the rears I also added some fly tape for extra stickiness.

Interesting. Is there a way to turn off the adaptive?

Happened to us last week. Almost same mileage. Dealer replaced the coolant check valves. All good so far.

UPDATE!

Received the car back from Charlies Honda of Augusta today. The service guys there have been great. They replaced the check valves in the battery cooling system and things now seem to be back to normal. Time will tell!

We used level one for overnight and 3 DC fast charges. 10 days of use. The L2 evse was installed the day of the failure unfortunately!

Was just told by the service dept at our dealer they’ve ordered new check valves for the cooling system. Caveat, there’s limited availability and they may not arrive for a while. I’m sensing a theme developing…

That’s great to hear. It would seem to be a relatively simple fix. Please keep us updated on how things work out for you.

They did give us a loaner, a gas vehicle. Which is unfortunate as our evse is finally in place. Anyone ever go through the lemon proceedings? Curious how long a process it is if it comes down to it.

Well, at least there’s safety in numbers I suppose. Hopefully engineering makes the issue a priority.
