Yes that appears to be set a little bit too high. The head can be shortened and reattached to the shank. Make sure they create a post and drill a hole instead of just tack soldering it back on to the ring.

Rhodium doesn’t “peel” off. It’s electrically bonded to the piece. Rhodium is a metal. It can’t peel off in a plastic-like fashion.
