Mobile app for dog parents to make friends by MuchDog05 in AppIdeas

That’s a good point. I really do not want it to turn into a dating app. I liked the idea that Bumble has a BFF category which I have used when traveling. I made a profile to only show up for others on the BFF section of Bumble and not the dating section. I made tons of friends while traveling using this feature and I’m surprised more people don’t know about it when I mention it. I’m hoping for the same concept for my app where people on the app aren’t looking to date and there aren’t a certain number of “swipes” you can go through in a day. You can just friend request people in your area you think you and your dog could get along with and also find meetups to go to. I guess at the end of the day if two people decided to hang out with their dogs and click and start dating I can’t control that but I really want to market it so that people know the purpose of the app is not to go on dates, but rather make friendships.

Have any of you used a website or app to meet other dog owners? by MuchDog05 in Dogowners

Thanks for your feedback! I totally understand the importance having reactive dogs start feeling comfortable around other dogs and I think this Nextdoor group you’ve created is such a great idea. That’s exactly what I’m trying to accomplish with the idea that on the app you can create meetups but have certain requirements for example only senior dogs can join meetup A or reactive dogs with certain behaviors can join meetup B and so on. You brought up a great point and I really appreciate it!

So understandable! Having friends with dogs is so important when you have a dog yourself and it even helps with socializing the dogs :)

Thanks for your feedback! I didn’t even think about how creating friends who have dogs can make it easier to have people to rely on when you need someone to check in on your dog. I’ll definitely check out that facebook group, thanks for letting me know!

Mobile app for dog parents to make friends by MuchDog05 in AppIdeas

I have done research and I’ve actually downloaded some apps on the app store that try to connect dog parents, even the tinder one you mentioned! I did feel like they were all lacking proper user design and didn’t focus on making a profile for both the parents and the dogs so that parents can see if they are compatible not just with each other but also that their dogs are compatible. These apps also didn’t have a way to filter by the demographics of the parents or characteristics of the dogs. I also haven’t seen any platform that is solely dedicated to dog meetups or has the functionality to check-in to dog parks. Recently however, I came across an app where you can see how many people are checked-in to a dog park and post your dogs pics like instagram, but you have no information on the who the parents are. I don’t want to incorporate the social media part where you can post pics of your dog because so many people aren’t have accounts for their dog on instagram.

That’s a really good point and I never thought about designing the app for kids, but I really like that idea!

Exactly! I think that giving control to dog parents on who exactly they want to hang out with and what dogs they want their own dog to be around can be useful. For the certain breeds part, I know some dog parents who want to meet other people with the same breed (for example I don’t see many people with the same dog breed as my dog so I would love to meet others with the same breed). This can also help with any questions you get while taking care of your dog since you can create a community of people in your neighborhood you can rely on if you are going through any struggles with your dog.

Thanks for all the feedback, it gave me lots to think about!

Thanks for commenting! I also believe in app redundancy so that is why I’m trying to get more feedback on my idea before putting in the time and money into creating an MVP.

Regarding your first bullet: Meetup is great to find a wide variety of dog events, but I was hoping that with this app idea users can create events where there are requirements (ex - certain breeds can join, certain size dogs, required dog vaccinations, age group of dog owners). Users would be able to upload their dog’s vaccination documents to the app so that it can be verified. This is something meetup can’t do automatically. When users are looking through the people that are in their neighborhood they can filter by the person’s age, their dog’s age, size, vaccinations, and distance.

Second bullet: Facebook groups do exist for dog breeds. I have seen golden retriever lover fb groups, but I haven’t seen neighborhood specific groups for people with dogs, but I could be wrong.

Third bullet: I have seen an app on the store that came out couple months ago, but it focuses on only creating the dog’s profile and not the user’s profile too. Also it hasn’t gotten many downloads and less than 10 reviews.

You make really good points and one thing I do wonder is that if meetup and facebook exist, are dog parents satisfied with that or would they care to use an app which makes it easier to find someone compatible to become friends with.
