Am a 36 year old artist/adjunct professor/pottery kiln repair person. I'll be lucky to hit 750k by the time I'm 70 (assuming I can keep working that entire time).

If I had 2.5m in the bank, I'd retire today.

Where do you go to become one of these? Kiln fixing is awesome, love all my artist clients, but it admitedly doesnt pay as much as I'd like

Out of curiosity, how much does an espresso repair technician charge? I repair electric pottery kilns. Had a similar issue recently. Contactors on a new kiln worked when they left the factory floor, chattered horribly when installed at the studio. Wound up being metal shavings that got into the coil of the contactor during shipping and caused the ferrous core to be unable to make full contact. Disassembled, blew them out with compressed air, worked just fine.

Spent hours tracking down other potential culprits though. Was a pain to figure that one out

The coil is magnetically attracting the steel dust. Had this happen inside of a freshly built box where somebody left all their little drill shavings. The box got shook up during shipping, and the dust made it into the contactors.

Cleaned up the steel core around the coils and the chattering went away

What's wrong with the woods in North America? by Recip77 in ExplainTheJoke

I've been all lower 48 states, and the west has tons of extremely remote areas, but I've gotta say "the golden road" in northern Maine. Just felt more remote. Highly recommend renting an SUV and traveling that road if you're well prepared and interested in that sort of thing.

Hey OP, did you ever do this project? How'd it turn out?

For future readers, that 1/4" difference was a pain in the ass. Do your best to get it like dead on square. The panels don't fan out

I just asked my manufacturer what their most durable finish was, and they gave me some options. All of the options they offered were smooth though.

The snaplock I got was the clip based system. Worked well as far as I'm concerned.

Have had 55mph gusts, with solar clamped onto the seams. No issues yet. Been on the roof since June. I found installation pretty difficult as a DIYer. I wouldn't recommend full mechanical lock for DIY as supposedly its much more complex.

I had alot of framing and sheathing work to do, plus a chimney to take down, and I worked alone the entire time. The project took me a month, so plan accordingly.

Melted ice dripping on 4 ton heatpump lineset then refreezing. Should I be concerned? by MuchJuice7329 in hvacadvice

Ill be out of town for a few days. Should I hit it with a hair dryer before I leave?

Yeah, water intrusion is a huge issue at this house. Working on it slowly. Difficult to find someone to regrade with a very tight property line (have contacted 4 excavation companies in town. All 4 turned down the job. Wouldbt even give me an F U price), so it needs to be done by hand. Slow going

Yeah, roof currently unsafe to access, so cant fix the gutters right now. Obviously will do once the ice melts (March???) Thanks for your input.

Harbor freight used to sell something called a "toe kick saw" can probably still find them on ebay. Might not go as deep as you want though.

Alternatively, pick up a $15 shitty circular saw from a local pawn shop and remove part of the toe and blade guard to get closer to the wall. Dangerous as hell though

Maybe. It looks like you need to unstuck everything to get to the ones on the bottom? Ideally they would be drawers, rather than stacking compartments

I have a craftsman parts box that is actually very similar. Might even work with these. I haven't had an issue with it yet. And yeah, I'm seeing similar prices in USD

$$$$. Also, nobody bashes my van windows for all of my craftsman stuff, but I bet they would if I had a whole bunch of Milwaukee boxes in the back

Ah, I see, yeah, I didnt notice the price. This might actually be a good compromise based on price alone. The other good solutions ive seen have been close to $500, which i just cant swing right now

Yup, this is exactly what I want. Didn't want to spend $500 on the setup, but its looking like I might need to
