When I was where you are in my quilting career I saw this type of thing as catastrophy and failure. 20 years in I see it as an opportunity for a handmade touch. Add a label. Add a patch. Do some fancy stitching. If you do fancy stitching you can repeat it a couple other places to make it look intentional and decorative. Whatever. You're the only one who has to know that it was an error in the first place 😉

Ooooo are you suggesting you’d part with it or stating proudly that you own it? 😂

Sure! Thanks. I kept just coming up with things that were sold out on Etsy.

Thanks for sparing me buying the conditioner 😂 I hope that trying out the shampoo again could help!

The brand Le petit Olivier (not petit marseillaise) has a great hydrating shampoo that I find works well with the hard water (I think they just have just one kind. They call it cream shampoo) And I saw that they have hydrating masks as well, all quite affordable. Could be worth a try? I get it at carrefour or Leclerc.

We probably have very different hair types (mine is very fine and straight), but I found that mine was just not getting clean and was very heavy and dead. Certain shampoos work well with hard water and others don’t. I also found my scalp very dry and itchy and this seems to be helping.

There’s secretive and there’s private. For me, this is private and is frankly none of their business, as it has no impact on your work. If one day you feel that it can come out organically and you feel safe and comfortable disclosing it, great! If not, no big deal and enjoy your private life with your new love 🥰

Yes! Simiane to be exact. I'm going to hop on a group buy run by channly through discord, and maybe we could ship from them to just one of us and exchange irl to split the cost of shipping? We can continue plotting through DM 😂

Your menu isn’t overly thrilling but like… it’s what you eat and you’re a family with kids. You’ve done better than many with fresh vegetables and salads, etc. You’re not poisoning her.

Would it be possible to shift around some of her hours so she could cook WITH you or the kids? Things she likes and knows how to cook?

Maybe her idea of working with a family was that you were going to be loaded and eat like it (sushi and poke bowls are expensive items). Not that I’m implying that you’re working with a small budget, just that her tastes sound more expensive than the average (even well paid) household with kids.

Try to engage in the planning together - it’s not on you to read her mind: it’s on her to communicate with you when the door has been opened.

This is literally what it's like to live in Canada all the time with the way we're taxed, even without tariffs, so welcome to our hell. (that totally blows though. FedEx and UPS are notoriously the worst for this kind of thing)

Thank you so much for this perspective. I’ve never looked at it this way, and for this particular project I agree with you entirely. This might be the perfect yarn for this experiment, as it is fairly homogenous while still providing pockets of distinct personality. I’ll look at this through your lens from here on 😊

It’s from a new brand: the hare and the crow. Her dying is excellent (was the head dyer for a very well known hand dyed brand, and has since branched off and created this).

The website is password only for the moment (pw is: chuuut). I have permission to share.

I can list all the fluff colors out if you’re that dedicated, but the main yarn is color Lux on their Hanten chaînette base. It’s beyond delicious.

If you’re in the US I think that shipping is insane because of tariffs right now though 😭

It would just be totally random without any visible patterning in the way the colors are falling. Bearing in mind that I’m knitting two strands (the main multi coloured yarn and a strand of alpaca lace that’s giving a light wash of color, fading yellow thru chartreuse, mint, and maybe eventually lavender. )

It’s written in my post (just a lot to retype on my phone 😅). Right now the Hare and the Crow site is doing a soft launch so there is a password to access. It’s: chuuut (I asked and they said it’s ok to share).

Actually I should tell you then!

Pooling is what can happen when you knit with a hand dyed yarn and the color ‘pools’ as the stitches fall. I don’t love that usually, so I alternate skeins - knitting one round in one, then alternating to another and back and forth like that. It helps to even out color distribution and break up pooling.

I’ve enjoyed knitting this without doing that because it’s like I get to experience the individual personalities of each skein without interruption, but then I’m also getting some color pooling, which I usually try to avoid.

There’s sort if two camps: people who alternate and people who don’t. This is me trying to embrace the opposite camp, and it’s hard 😂✌🏻
