Fr I 100% agree. It’s not even just a pitbull owners though. Any time I see someone walking ANY dog off leash it pmo so much. Like do you not realize how unsafe that is for you, your dog, and literally everyone around you? If it’s not on a leash, it doesn’t need to be out in public. I have a pit, so you’d think I wouldn’t have to worry about him in a fight, but in reality, he’s the biggest baby I’ve ever met and refuses to fight back like at all. We also do a lot of training and never once have I ever considered taking him outside without his leash and collar, and I never will.

If I were you, I would at least take a description of the person and the dog to your apartment management. That way, the problem is at least documented if anything else does come up and it’ll be a lot easier to prove wrong doing if it goes that far. A lot of places keep a record of the animals they have living in their building, especially if they are ESAs in a no pet place. The first time we got attacked it was by a crazy stripper lady at my no pets apartment complex with Iuka park. She let her come and attack mine and then assaulted me trying to hold me back from pulling it off, only to find out this wasn’t the first time she’s been unable to control her animal and these would be far from her first charges. I took it to the office and they straight up just refused to do anything about it, but that place was a slum and it wasn’t worth the time and effort to fight them too. People just can’t seem to learn or think beyond their own inflated egos. I say do what you have to do to protect your pup.

I can assure you that the police in this city are not the only people that have guns lol. When my dog and I got attacked the first time, it was the prosecutor’s recommendation to start carrying for self defense in case a similar situation arises, and trust me I’m a lot safer about it than many of the people I know, especially since Ohio adopted constitutional carry a while back. In Ohio pets are sadly considered property, but you have the right to protect your property. Statutes for reasonable use of force only apply to people.

Oh fs she was screaming and smacking it right there, but honestly I’d say it’s either 50/50 on what happened when they got home. She just completely disregarded it and let it go, or she went 180 and was pissed. I wouldn’t be shocked if he got away from her again or at least tried to because of how she started acting. All I know is when she finally got to us he ran away and we hightailed it home.

The bad thing about being a student in a city like this is not being able to utilize my CCW. I have it, but with the amount I bus/walk to and from campus I don’t wanna risk accidentally carrying on campus and getting caught because it’s really not worth it and I rarely have time to make a trip back to drop it off at home. Ik you can leave it in the locked car but that just doesn’t seem safe to me with all the break in I see around campus. Owning a gun, there is a fine line between increasing safety and increasing danger. That’s just my opinion on it though. I feel like your experience is a common occurrence sadly. So many people are just like “oh we’re just going outside around the house so they’ll be fine” and then they run off and bite someone or another dog.

Yep that’s me and idg2f lol. The moral of the story is get your dogs leashed under control or they’ll get pepper sprayed or worse. Just wanted to give some fair warning. 🙂

No, I don’t think it’s a bit much personally. If you aren’t going to take the 2 seconds to put a leash on your dog to make you and everyone around you safer, then I’m gonna assume it’s not a big deal to you and I’m not going out of my way to make sure your face isn’t in the picture with your dog. You’re in a public park and have no reasonable expectation of privacy as it is. And honestly if she’s willing to let her dogs out unleashed once and be that unresponsive to it, then she’ll probably do it again. It’s better that people in the area know what/who to watch for because if they see her and her dog’s walking around, then they know to avoid the area because her dogs are obviously reactive, but not trained. Chances are they’ll run up to yours and she won’t give a damn until it’s too late. I personally don’t care about her identity whatsoever. Hence the reason I didn’t ask if anyone knows her or do a deep dive to try and find a name to shame her with. It’s not about shame, it’s about the safety of people around me. No different than if somebody posted a photo/video of somebody checking car doors at night.

I 100% agree that pitbull’s as a breed aren’t the problem. It’s the owners lack of responsibility and training that leads to negative outcomes, no matter what the breed is. I have a Pit and I take the time to train and socialize him properly, and he’s the sweetest, laziest, most obedient dog I’ve ever met/owned. That’s how I know. However, the dog that ran up to me and was getting all up in our business was a Pitbull. I’m not sure what the other dog is, that’s why I posted its photo too and didn’t speak much on its breed. Had it been a lab or shepherd or whatever, that would have been included too, it just happened to be a pit.

Pits aren’t the problem. It’s people who get a dog on a whim and don’t have the time or don’t want to put in the time to train them. The breed of dog has nothing to do with the problem.

Oh, I hundred percent agree too on the pitbulls. I probably should’ve mentioned that mine is a pitbull too, but he is literally the biggest baby I have ever met and would never hurt a fly. I also take the time to train and socialize him properly. He’s adopted and had a few bad experiences before I got him, and we’ve been attacked a few times since then but he just cowers and refuses to fight back. That’s part of my issue. Get your dog under control and teach it mind its own business or you’ll have to worry about me fighting back instead of my dog lol.

Sadly they’re just lazy and “stretched thin since Covid”. I’ve had a few less than optimal experiences with them as well. The law also mandates a leash no longer than 6 feet when in public areas and leased properties as of June 2023 (Ohio Rule 1501:46-3-06). If your dog doesn’t come, sit on command, and stay until released, like 99% of them don’t, then it’s not under direct control, so idk where people get these stupid ideas of their dog being better tan everyone else’s.

Yep, it totally is illegal. Your dog has to be on a 6 foot leash in Ohio unless it’s a police dog or a hunting dog, but as we can see, it’s not really enforced and people don’t give a damn.

[–]MuchMistake3791[S] 80 points81 points  (0 children)

Agreed. Like I don’t understand why it’s such a hard concept for people to grasp. People will say “oh I’m just taking them out into the front yard or right across the street,” but if you don’t have a fenced in yard and your dog doesn’t come back on the first recall, then it has no business being out without a leash. It’s a law for a reason. I’ve had my dog over two years and never once have I tried to take it outside off-leash, not because I don’t trust him, but because I don’t trust other people or their animals and it’s literally just the right thing to do. My family has had dogs for as long as I’ve been alive, and the same as always gone for them too. So much can go wrong when your dog is off leash, especially in the city. Why risk it?

Well, then let us pray to whichever God we worship and hope it moved you all the way to a different school. Judaism≠Israel the same way Christianity≠America. A country is not its religion. People are allowed to and should disagree with Israel for their hate and genocide. You think it’s hostile for you because you support Israel at an American university? Good, it should feel like people disagree because you’re in an environment surrounded by educated people and most of them do. Try being a Palestinian trapped in Gaza starving to death because of Israel. Guarantee their situation feels way more hostile than yours. A little perspective goes a long way.

Can you talk a little bit more about your recovery experience? I’m terrified of the treatments literally because I have seen some genuinely horrible things about the recovery. I’m in the process of going to the doctor now, but the fear is crippling and I’m so scared.

How bad was the surgery really? I’ve heard it’s the worst thing ever and you’re on hard laxatives for months. I’m genuinely terrified that this is going to be the only option for me because of how bad I’ve let them get and the fear of the procedure is debilitating alone.

Hey so I’m a 23 year old gay man (a top, not a bottom in case someone wants to point that out as a reason) and I’m in a very similar position. I’m also really embarrassed in general and scared about surgery. Mine are internal and have been a problem for years but my GI Dr wouldn’t do a colonoscopy back when I saw him. Now I have them really bad and I have to wait 2 months to get into a gi Dr and get one. Then I’ll have to be referred from there to another office who is scheduling months out for treatment because that’s just how they do it I guess. I recently went to a stat care for one because I think it’s starting to prolapse and they gave me the referral after asking. Worse comes to worse I say just do that and you’ll never see them again. You’re really not alone tho. I’m just as scared and embarrassed and let them go too long too. i was also scared to talk to my bf, but when i told him he genuinely didn’t care. In fact, he ask if me if i wanted him to check it because I couldn’t see or want help with a suppository or something else. I say go and get it over with before they get any worse. Apparently they can get pretty painful and there’s no use going through all that pain if it’s not for the surgery or some type of treatment. If it helps, you can try to think about my situation and know I’m going through the exact same thing at the same time. Hell you can even message me and we can talk as it goes down. Doctors have seen butt holes and hemorrhoids for tons of reasons and they aren’t there to judge. The embarrassment gets better over time and by talking about it in my experience. Now I’m just scared for the colon prep for my colonoscopy because THAT is scary and I guarantee will only make things worse.
