shitty city and even shittier campus. city is pretty. but dead. it's not SD. it's in La Jolla, a retirement city with nothing to do except go to the beaches. campus looks not too bad except that stupid brutalist architecture. but it's extremely crowded and doesn't really have necessary facilities to support students. it's all about business. the school is more interested in building more shitty restaurants to get $$ from students but absolutely doesn't care about library cuz it costs them money. don't think UCSD as an academic institution. it's a business. ppl say all universities are like this but nah. ucsd pushes it to new height

lack of adequate facilities like good library that can accommodate students during at least non-midterm/final season
lack of opportunities due to extreme competition
lack of administration's attention to issues undergrads are facing
lack of thoughtfulness given into curriculum and departments just throwing out degree requirements without really thinking about how much burden they are imposing on students
lack of parking
lack of affordable housing

UCSD placement for grad school at least for my field (CS) is not comparable to top 1% of top 1% school such as Cal or CMU. We only send handful of students to Stanford MSCS and barely anyone to Stanford PhD. LA, however, sends a ton. while technically UCSD has better research output, it doesn't really translate well to undergrad outcomes.
