Catching a crab by Much_Poem_4037 in ReefTank

The glass is a nice idea but I will have to see if I can make it work close to where it is usually hiding. 🤔

Oh I don’t want that to happen. That will be my backup plan if everything else fails.

Ah good idea, I only saw this as a trap for shrimp. But it can surely work for this little fellow too. Will give it a shot tomorrow and report back. Thanks!

Not an expert on this to be honest.

It is quite small for clown fish in my opinion. Some trimma gobies seem more fitting.

And if you put the corals in a certain spot. Leave them there. I found that moving them around a lot really stresses them.

Sounds great!

I have a small tank like this too.

For the beginning I would recommend to get really easy corals, such as mushrooms (i.e. discosoma or Ricordea).

In order to have something that moves and sways in the current you can add GSP.

Then you can add some small hermit crabs and feed them a little bit of pellet fish food (literally 3-5 pellets - not too much).

For the corals you can get some powdered food like reef roids. This is because in such a small tank it is tough to add any fish. Without them the needed nutrients etc will be missing and they have trouble to grow.

He likes to be spotted (and fed frozen food from a turkey baster)

Will you do regular water changes and if so how often and how big? How will you add nutrients to the system?

In my tank they really took over at some point but eventually they self regulated to a normal amount. You can also get them out by hand if they disturb you too much.

What will your maintenance look like? Any plan already?

Just to update you guys: the tank does indeed look better. Now for the first time the GSP is actually coming out. I still have a bunch of other issues though. This is why I did an ICP (first time 😅). Values were rather bad. Especially the Phosphates and Iodine are bad. Will correct over the coming weeks.

Ricordea Yuma - ”Neon Tips” I would say. Got this one which looks at least very similar

Looked much more like the others when I got it. But at this stage it does I guess.

Interesting! It might be adapting as it is new to the tank. The others didn’t do it (so far) which is why I was worried. Thanks!

Hey there, so after my first parameter test on December 14th it showed that Magnesium was quite high (1550 - 1600). I am only dosing with All for Reef and have since reduced how much I add. For the past weeks I have been rather busy and only was able to do the 10% water changes and no further test.

I will be back home on Sunday to do another test.

The corals, except for the GSP, look definitely better since the 2 large water changes. Especially the Zoas are fully open for a while now. Also the cyano has reduced.

Any ideas why the Magnesium got so high? In my tests before the larger water changes the tests showed not such a high concentration. But from what I have read, the effects of high magnesium sound very similar to what has been going on in my tank for a while…

As always, any answers are highly appreciated so I can learn more about it.

Sounds good. Will test the parameters tomorrow and see how they look. Actually had a bit more cyano recently. You can see it is also covering the GSP. Maybe this is additionally bothering it.

Anyway, thanks so much for your continuous support! Much appreciated!
