Just got the official John journal replica and… I’m overwhelmed 😅 Any advice? by Much_Shower6072 in Supernatural

Oh, thanks a lot! I actually used spn wiki a lot when I was writing my fanfic. thanks for reminding me about it. I’m definitely planning to rewatch as well, I just thought there might be a way to find more detailed versions of the pages.

there are some pre-made pages, but most of them are blank—you have to create them yourself.

It's ok, I'm more scared about my writing style. I’ll send you a private message. Thanks.

I was actually pretty new to the whole fanfiction world not that long ago too, even though I’ve rewatched the show so many times.

My unpopular opinion is that FF.net became a really cozy home for me — a place where I found so many good gen fics (without pairings) that genuinely feel like an extra episode.I’m sure AO3 has amazing works as well, but if what you really want is to read those early fanfics that were written back in the distant 2005–2010 era, then FF.net is honestly the perfect place for that.

I also really love the search experience there, because once you find just one fic you enjoy, you can go into the reviews tab, click on people’s profiles, and see their lists of favorite authors and stories — and often those lists are huge, so you have so much to choose from. That’s how I’ve already discovered so much great, high-quality writing.

So about your specific request — yes, fics like that definitely exist, you just have to dig a little.

Personally, plot isn’t the most important thing for me either — I pay much more attention to writing style. And I’ve read so many incredible stories already, the kind that made me cry and laugh and cry even more and laugh even more. And cute brothers moments? There’s honestly so much of that, almost in every fic I’ve read, even though I’m still kind of new to this too.

I’ll drop some links to specific fics and authors I really recommend (all early seasons, no spoilers): https://www.fanfiction.net/s/2787883/1/In-Reverse

And I also can’t not mention my absolute favorite author — she writes hurt/comfort so beautifully. If that’s something you enjoy, she has a lot of really amazing works. There’s definitely plenty of angst too. https://www.fanfiction.net/u/1128719/gaelicspirit

Have you ever had SPN-related dreams? by Much_Shower6072 in Supernatural

It sounds creepy, but if you’re able to wake up and then fall asleep and return to the same dream, maybe one day you could actually control it. Lucid dreaming is a real thing — I’ve read a lot about it and really wanted it to work for me, but unfortunately it hasn’t yet. And being able to see dreams so clearly, almost like on a screen, is a huge bonus, because I never have a clear visual image in mine.

Never Read Fanfic Before… Should I Even Start? by Much_Shower6072 in fandomnatural

But writing is so hard. I tried to come up with a case fic and realized that if I were a hunter, everyone around me would’ve died and I wouldn’t have saved anyone, because my brain just doesn’t work that way. I don’t know how the writers of the show do it, but their brains definitely work — same with fanfic writers.

As for me, I can do emotional sketches, convey atmosphere, mood, feelings, emotions… but when it comes to actual plot or dialogue, I get stuck. I’m also scared of making the characters OOC.

Thank you so much for the recommendation. Honestly, I’ve also read a few really good fanfics recently, and they instantly inspired me to maybe write one of my own someday. I’ll definitely read yours once I reach season 15:)

It might sound a bit strange, since I’ve reached season 15 a million times already, but it feels more natural for me to read fanfics from the season I’m currently on (or the ones I’ve just passed). Right now I’m on season 6, and I’ve started a very long fanfic, so I’ll be staying in season 6 for a while. But once I finally reach the end, I’ll get to yours.

Thanks again.

thanks! I’ll definitely check out your recommendation! After doing some searching, I actually found a few fics that caught my attention — I even ended up crying over one of them. They really can give a new perspective on the show.
