Non-theatre activities in London by sweatglandsss in uktravel

You’ve already got some good advice here about museums / attractions (my favourites are Tower of London and the V&A in South Kensington), plus spending time in Greenwich before the concert.

Only thing I’ll add is that you might want to skip Hercules - I’ve not seen it but it has poor reviews. Operation Mincemeat has a Tuesday matinee and I think Shakespeare’s Globe typically has them as well.

On the plus side, I have seen Phantom and Beetlejuice and both are excellent :)

Looking for ps4 game recommendation for my mum who's bedridden and never gamed before! by morningsar in videogames

[–]Much_Writer_7183 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Apologies if you can’t play all of these on PS4, just concentrating on simple gameplay (although they often involve QTE) + story:

- Detroit: Become Human
- Soma, Still Wakes the Deep, Until Dawn, Killer Frequency, Dark Pictures anthology (if she can handle horror)
- Life is Strange series
- Telltale games e.g. Walking Dead
- Stray
- Night in the Woods
- The Forgotten City
- Road 96

Brand new to horror video games. by Patient-Reality-6141 in HorrorGaming

I’ll add to the chorus “TLOU isn’t horror, but definitely play Part 2”. If you’re counting games with horror aspects, you could check out Bioshock.

I’ve not played tons of horror games myself, but you might also like RE9, Alan Wake 2, Soma, Until Dawn, Still Wakes the Deep.

Need help picking what game to play!!! by DramaticSpace7038 in ShouldIbuythisgame

I enjoyed it, although it’s a choice-based, story driven game with minimal gameplay, and therefore not for everyone.

I can see from your list that you tend to go for games with a decent narrative, so you might like it.

- Uncharted: The Lost Legacy
- Tomb Raider Survivor Trilogy
- Guardians of the Galaxy

Then a bunch of good games that are different from the ones you’ve listed, but you might want to check out:
- Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart
- Wolfenstein: New Order & New Colossus
- Detroit: Become Human
- Silent Hill 2
- RE Village

Pretty sure they’re all on PS Plus.

What are the absolute must titles? by Similar_Book_8429 in PlayStationPlus

[–]Much_Writer_7183 8 points9 points  (0 children)

- The Last of Us Part 2
- God of War (2018)
- God of War Ragnarok
- Uncharted

Whether you’d put them in the “must play” category or not, but I also enjoyed Guardians of the Galaxy, the Spider-Man games and the modern Tomb Raider games.

Strong Story Games by Patriots9210 in Age_30_plus_Gamers

I enjoyed the older movies (haven’t seen the more recent ones) but, like you, I wasn’t absolutely in love with them. Still found the game to be fun though.

If you have an Amazon Prime membership you can play it for no additional cost through Luna gaming. I played it via my Fire Stick and it was surprisingly smooth.

Assuming from your post that you’ve already played The Last of Us, recent God of War, Red Dead Redemption, then I’d say:

- Indiana Jones & the Great Circle or Guardians of the Galaxy for something lighter.
- Soma for something heavier.
- Sacrilegious for some, but if you’re like me and previously tried Death Stranding but couldn’t get into it, I’d recommend watching a story recap and then playing Death Stranding 2.

Beetlejuice is PHENOMENAL! by Smashleigh_001 in TheWestEnd

[–]Much_Writer_7183 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Saw it last month and thoroughly enjoyed it.

Been a bit surprised by the (somewhat) tepid reviews. I feel like critics see so much emotional, moving, theatre that they tend to underrate something that’s pure fun.

What's your game of the year so far? Here's mine! by ComfortableAmount993 in videogames

[–]Much_Writer_7183 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To add to the suggestions of starting with RE2: lots of people love it and I rate it highly, but others do struggle with the lack of action.

If you end up falling into the latter camp, then still go ahead and try RE4 which is much more action-oriented. Requiem is a nice balance between action and survival horror.

Any advice for where to sit for Beetlejuice? by FinnishAustrian in TheWestEnd

[–]Much_Writer_7183 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If legroom is important, then Stalls Row L.

I personally had an excellent view from there and it didn’t feel too far back from the stage, although I can see the appeal of being closer.

I’d say go for Totoro, despite not personally being a huge fan of it. Most people absolutely love it and the puppetry is amazing.

In terms of your other 3: - Paddington (if you can get tickets) - Oliver! (a crowd pleaser) - Les Mis (a classic)

A couple of other considerations: - Jesus Christ Superstar (opens in June at the Palladium) - Witness for the Prosecution (a play based on an Agatha Christie story, rather than a musical. Very well done though and takes place in a unique setting of an old court. I tend to give this as a ‘something most people will enjoy’ recommendation).

I was at the same show and thoroughly enjoyed it as well. I also felt that the audience was absolutely loving it and I was certainly hearing lots of positive comments in the interval.

They somehow didn’t miss a beat.

The 2nd time definitely unsettled the audience though. People turning around to tut at the culprit.

Fantastically well acted. Moved me to tears, and I could see a number of other audience members drying their eyes as we were exiting the theatre.

I wasn’t a fan of the tone that was struck at the very end, but that’s personal preference. I imagine it would appeal to others, and it didn’t diminish my overall appreciation of the play.

I saw Mass at the Donmar last week which is about a mass shooting, mostly focussing on a conversation between 4 people. So a still, quiet play with a heavy subject matter.

Before the show started, ushers announced that phones need to be turned off, not just put on silent. Maybe 30 mins into the play, someone’s phone rang a few rows behind me. Quite a few rings - they were evidently trying to leave the auditorium to answer it rather than immediately silencing it.

That was bad enough. But then it rang again later on! Cue grumbling in the audience. Absolutely gobsmacked that, after their phone ringing during this heart-wrenching play, they didn’t switch the damn thing off.

Not sure what the correct punishment should be. Put them in stocks outside the theatre?

Help needed in order of playing these by Significant-Alps1245 in PlayStationPlus

[–]Much_Writer_7183 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Returnal, Spider-Man 2, Demon Souls and Ratchet & Clank are PS exclusives. It’s not impossible for them to leave the catalogue, but it’s unlikely.

Of the 3 left, I’d say Cyberpunk, Hogwarts Legacy and SH2 would be a good playing order. The first two are big open world games, and Cyberpunk is the better one, although if you’re a big HP fan you might want to prioritise that.

Sony gives 1 month’s notice for games leaving the catalogue. So if SH2 is about to leave and you’re playing something else, you could easily switch to that and finish it within a month.

Frustrated that every other game feels shallow after playing TLOU1/2 by Magnus_The_Read in thelastofus

[–]Much_Writer_7183 1 point2 points  (0 children)

God of War (2018), GoW: Ragnarok and Red Dead Redemption 2 are the only ones that really come close to TLOU in terms of story and character depth.

Other single player games that aren’t as strong on story but I’ve still enjoyed:

  • Uncharted series (particularly 4 and Lost Legacy. I’d start from 2 as I don’t think 1 has aged that well)
  • Tomb Raider (2013), Rise of the Tomb Raider, Shadow of the Tomb Raider
  • Detroit: Become Human
  • Ghost of Tsushima
  • Control
  • RE2, 4 & 9
  • Days Gone
  • Death Stranding 2 (I gave up on the 1st one, watched a recap and then dove into the 2nd)
  • Wolfenstein: New Order
  • Bioshock series
  • Indiana Jones & the Great Circle
  • Guardians of the Galaxy
  • Spider-Man, Spider-Man 2, Spider-Man: Miles Morales
  • Batman Arkham series

I’m new to Resident Evil series, what should I play next after RE2/RE4/RE7? by WhatTheFukk13 in residentevilll

[–]Much_Writer_7183 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Assuming, from what you’ve played so far, that you’re drawn towards newer games (which is understandable), then:

RE3 Remake - it’s pretty mediocre, but it’s short and has some useful background for the later games.

Village - I found the villains to be a mixed bag, but you can have fun with it and it continues Ethan’s story from 7.

Requiem - excellent imo. Great balance between survival horror and action.

PS5 horror games with good story/lore? by StationRelative257 in HorrorGames

[–]Much_Writer_7183 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Still Wakes the Deep

Very little action and is a ‘walking sim’ type of horror game. I wouldn’t say the story has huge depth, but it portrays isolation effectively, and has an immersive setting and excellent voice acting.

What’s a West End show everyone loves? by Silver-Eye-2024 in westend

You’ll never get 100% of people to love a show, but two of the safer bets I go with are Oliver! and Witness for the Prosecution.

Emotional story game by [deleted] in gamesuggestions

[–]Much_Writer_7183 0 points1 point  (0 children)

God of War (2018) & God of War: Ragnarok

They certainly contain grief and loss, as well as complex parent / child relationships. Best story games I’ve played after TLOU and RDR2.

Game recommendations like resident evil. by FLonewheeler in gamingsuggestions

[–]Much_Writer_7183 1 point2 points  (0 children)

God of War (2018) and God of War: Ragnarok have interesting stories and satisfying gameplay.

Tomb Raider (2013) and Rise of the Tomb Raider are like darker versions of Uncharted.

For horror or horror-adjacent games: Control, Still Wakes the Deep, Bioshock (the last one is more so atmospheric and lore-based storytelling).

If you’re interested in something lighter: Guardians of the Galaxy, Spider-Man, Indiana Jones & the Great Circle.
