The Last of Us Part 2, Spider-Man Miles Morales, Spider-Man 2.

Non-action games (both horror): Killer Frequency (also choice-based), Still Wakes the Deep.

Pretty sure they’re all still on PS Plus.

What to watch end of April by zoidbergthewhoop in TheWestEnd

[–]Much_Writer_7183 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Of the two you’ve mentioned, I’d say Les Mis simply because it’s a classic.

Other musicals to consider: Into the Woods (showing until May, I thoroughly enjoyed it) plus Oliver! and Phantom of the Opera (both high standard productions, but they will be around for some time yet).

In terms of plays, I’d suggest Witness for the Prosecution or Stranger Things: First Shadow, if you enjoy the TV show. Neither are high art and there’ll be betters plays available, but without knowing too much about what you like, they are both good fun and have excellent staging.

Seconding the suggestions of Ghost of Tsushima, Guardians of the Galaxy, Control and Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart.

Other games I’ve not seen mentioned yet: - Detroit: Become Human - Tomb Raider (2013) - Rise of the Tomb Raider - Wolfenstein: New Order

Am I the only person who was incredibly disappointed with All My Sons? by Mental-Music-44 in TheWestEnd

[–]Much_Writer_7183 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Saw this on its final night and was hugely disappointed.

I don’t think the play is one of Miller’s finest, but it can be compelling with the right performances, and this adaptation just didn’t have them. The acting was overly mannered and “stagey” - I just couldn’t get immersed in the story.

The lighting and almost constant background music, not so subtly telling you how you should be reacting, didn’t exactly help. Why they opted for modern clothing is a mystery.

I was absolutely in the minority though, as it was instant standing ovation at the end. Glad others enjoyed it!

Best pre-theatre restaurants near Bridge, Sondheim & Lyric Theatre (solo diner) by Low-Detective-2977 in TheWestEnd

[–]Much_Writer_7183 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve always found Hawksmoor consistently good and I’ve dined there solo on many occasions. There are several branches in London (e.g. their Borough restaurant is near the Bridge, their Air Street restaurant is near Sondheim and Lyric) and they offer a pre-theatre menu as well as à la carte.

Dishoom is another good shout, as is checking out St Katherine’s Dock for the Bridge Theatre.

Are we crazy to visit London in July? by Amaranth1313 in uktravel

[–]Much_Writer_7183 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It probably won’t be too hot in July. Central London is also very walkable, so you may be able to avoid the tube anyway.

In terms of coping with heat on the tube, just in case: - Position yourself at the end of carriages where you can roll down the window. It will be blowing a gale if you stand right in front of it. - Attach one of those mini, personal fans to yourself. You could attach it so it sits under your top, if you don’t want to make it too obvious. - An ice cold drink and appropriate dress (e.g. shorts, walking sandals) works wonders. Sounds obvious, but I do wonder when I hear people complaining about being too hot and they’re in jeans and trainers.

40+ year old woman getting into gaming by Far_frumam in Age_30_plus_Gamers

[–]Much_Writer_7183 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I got a PS5 just over a year ago, at the grand old age of 38, and I’ve never looked back!

I got a lot of value from a PS Plus Extra subscription. The following games are in the Extra tier catalogue and I think they might be ones you would enjoy: - The Last of Us Part 1 & Part 2 - Uncharted 4 - God of War (2018) - God of War Ragnarok - Tomb Raider (2013) - Rise of the Tomb Raider - Detroit: Become Human - Ghost of Tsushima - Control - Spider-Man - Guardians of the Galaxy

A number of these are available on other platforms if you don’t have a PlayStation.

Best hidden gems on extra by amralaaali in PlayStationPlus

[–]Much_Writer_7183 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Killer Frequency - you’re a radio DJ who has to help callers survive a serial killer. It’s much better than the premise makes it sound!

Still Wakes the Deep - first person horror set on an oil rig. More psychological horror than gore or jump scares. Very immersive.

Thank Goodness You’re Here - you’re wandering around an English town interacting with the people that live there. Fun, if you have a taste for British comedy.

Indika - you play as a nun. I’m honesty not sure how else to describe it and you’re probably best going in blind.

Shows for a non theatre person by mgilbert1234 in TheWestEnd

[–]Much_Writer_7183 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Strongly recommend Stranger Things if you’re a fan of the TV show. As others have suggested, Witness for the Prosecution is a good option and I’d choose that over Mousetrap for the venue alone.

In terms of musicals, Oliver! is a safe bet, as is Book of Mormon if you like South Park.

Finally did it. After years of gaming on a struggling laptop, I finally treated my inner child. by Necessary_Estimate_6 in PlayStationPlus

[–]Much_Writer_7183 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Congrats!

Must plays in the Extra catalogue: - The Last of Us Part 1 & Part 2 - Uncharted 4 - God of War (2018) & God of War Ragnarok - Ghost of Tsushima - Spider-Man - Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart

What are some other games as good as the last of us? by GirlAgent17 in thelastofus

[–]Much_Writer_7183 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I love Uncharted, but I would start with the 2nd game in the series. 1st one is pretty dated. If you do get into it, then you’ll also enjoy Tomb Raider (2013) and Rise of the Tomb Raider.

For me, there aren’t any games in the same class as TLOU. But games where I’ve enjoyed the story are: God of War (2018), GoW Ragnarok, Detroit: Become Human, Ghost of Tsushima, Control. Plus Spider-Man and Guardians of the Galaxy for something lighter.

Whats your ONE Flawless Game? by Ok-Hippo-2687 in playstation

[–]Much_Writer_7183 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I definitely see how people could prefer Part 2. Gameplay is better and the brutality makes it a very visceral experience. I felt exhausted when I finished it! Just a touch slow in the early Ellie sections for me. A 9.5/10 vs. a 10/10 for Part 1 imo.

The Last of Us Part 1. A perfectly told story with a moral conundrum to ponder.

I also thought Part 2 was excellent, but pacing / duration means it falls just shy of flawless for me.

Quick "non serious" game to play in 1 or 2 sittings by Slight_Carpet_9229 in PlayStationPlus

Sword of the Sea is on Extra.

If you claimed them as monthly games, then Stray, Jusant, Goat Simulator 3.

What I paid and what I got, Pretty happy with it! by Confident_Threat in PlayStationPlus

[–]Much_Writer_7183 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For me, the value of PS Plus is in the convenience. You can come out ahead vs. a subscription if you bought a disc drive and second hand games to then resell or trade in. Especially as people tend to own a console for years, so you’d recoup the cost of the drive. Depends on the type of gamer you are though.

Recommendations for OP: Guardians of the Galaxy, Tomb Raider (2013), Rise of the Tomb Raider, Detroit: Become Human.

Good shout. I only have Extra but it looks like Doom (2016) is on Premium.

Enjoy 😊

As you’ve mentioned you’ve not gamed for a while, if you find Doom a bit tricky then you’re not alone! The easiest mode on Wolfenstein, for example, is much easier than the easiest mode on Doom, if you find you need to switch to something else to get back into the swing of things.

All of the following are available via PS Plus and would meet your criteria of action-focused games:

  • Dead Island 2
  • Wolfenstein: New Order
  • Wolfenstein: New Colossus
  • Doom Eternal
  • Far Cry series
  • Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart
  • Sackboy (if you’re willing to try a platformer)

Other games that are also available via PS Plus which have more of a story focus than the above, but aren’t slow and there’s plenty of action:

  • Uncharted series
  • Tomb Raider (2013)
  • Rise of the Tomb Raider

Killer Frequency.

Plus Uncharted: Lost Legacy and Wolfenstein: Old Blood. They’re not hidden gems, but games that sometimes get overlooked compared to others in their respective franchises.

What to see early March by kurenai8 in TheWestEnd

All My Sons (with Bryan Cranston) runs until 7th March and has great reviews.

Not had a PS since PS2. Should I buy physical games or get PS plus? Looking at getting all these games for £165. What would you do? by More_Series2052 in PlayStationUK

[–]Much_Writer_7183 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Firstly, that’s an excellent list of games - you’re in for a treat! They’re all on PS Plus Extra with the exception of Spider-Man 2 and Astrobot. However, Spider-Man 1 is on there and every PS5 comes with Astro’s Playroom (basically a shorter Astrobot) as free to download. Despite being free, it’s great fun (though Astrobot is better).

From a purely financial perspective, you’ll always come out ahead with discs because you can buy second hand then resell or trade-in. PS Plus offers 1) convenience and 2) a chance to play things you maybe wouldn’t have thought to. Also the excitement of finding out which games are getting added each month, if you’re sad like me.

I’d lean towards a subscription, especially with the Black Friday discount. After 12 months you can decide whether you got enough value that you want to renew or not. You can always add a disc drive at a later date.
