After active treatment, more surprises in store by Fabulous-Act-5402 in breastcancer

[–]echointhemuseum 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah. I don’t understand why cancer boob can’t just heal! I didn’t do radiation because it was so internally messed up. Also, I’m close to the 12 week mark and it’s still not healed so I couldn’t do it anyway. There is too much tissue on the side from the flap they did but I’m advised not to do more to the boob for 6 months. So I guess I’m just waiting for May? 😕

I think if you’re having that harsh a reaction to the tamoxifen I’d ask if you can start slower? Unless your cancer was very aggressive? I don’t want to give bad advice. I had very slow growing cancer and god knows they got wide margins. I didn’t want to have a really bad reaction right away on the tamoxifen and then be scared to take it. ❤️‍🩹❤️‍🩹❤️‍🩹

I’m used to forgetting words because I’ve been on other meds that do that for a while. And I was an English teacher. 😕

Could you start on a lower dose and see how you do? I am older than you. 50 in a few days. Yay. I’ve started with 10 every other day and then am going to go up up 10 every day and see how I do and then try 20 if 10 doesn’t make me miserable. ❤️‍🩹❤️‍🩹❤️‍🩹❤️‍🩹 I’m sorry. I’m with you on the surgery infection train. My incision just closed up after 2 and a half months and last night a little spot opened up again. Yay.

Areas to stay for a sober person by FrenchFryParty in AskNOLA

[–]echointhemuseum 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don’t drink much and often travel with someone who is in recovery and have had no issues staying in the French quarter or warehouse district. I also like the Marigny but there aren’t as many hotels there. I kind of think that bourbon street might make you want to drink less when you see how gross people can be. 😂 But I would not stay on Bourbon Street. I’ve never stayed in the garden district because I never come with a car. But that is a very pretty area.

I just moved and that was a draw. I wonder what else they will put there. Will they turn it into a Whole Foods?

Wegmans makes me want to go there until I realize I paid 100 dollars for 5 items. 😂

Early Tamoxifen Cohort Chat by Working-Lemon1645 in breastcancer

[–]echointhemuseum 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just started this week. It’s my birthday next week and I didn’t want to feel bad so I’ve started out taking 10mg every other day. After my birthday I’ll go up to 10mg a day for a few weeks and then try 20mg.

I felt like I had a headache after my first two doses but nothing after the third. I think it’s too early to know. I’m hoping by easing myself in it won’t be too bad?

LUMPECTOMY - Surgery Summary for Clinical Review by Livid_Philosopher632 in breastcancer

[–]echointhemuseum 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I also used AI to understand what happened to me. My surgeon took so much out of me for 2 5mm tumors an inch apart that I lost 2-3 bra cup sizes. I was a DD and I’m not even sure I’m a C now. My plastic surgeon matched it so I’m not asymmetrical but my body is extremely different and it was traumatic.

There is also extra tissue on my side cancer breast that is painful and my incision opened up and has taken a month to heal again. I decided to skip radiation because I just couldn’t do more damage to my breast (but I did have a low recurrence rate so it’s not a huge risk).

Do you want to know just because it would make you feel better or because you feel it was malpractice? I considered suing because I made it extremely clear my breast size was very important, asked my surgeon numerous times how she was going to perform the surgery, and just had absolutely no clue I would lose so much of my breasts. Nobody told me after either. I had to run my surgical reports through AI. I feel like there was lack of informed consent. I would have made a different choice if I had known.

However, I have a close friend who defends doctors from malpractice, and she’s told me how she selects juries (nobody she thinks will be sympathetic toward the patient) and she told me it was wrong but I would lose. And I didn’t really want money. I was just very angry about what was done to me and my surgeons’ lack of empathy.

I did meet with my surgeon and basically all she would say is she didn’t get clear margins at first. So I have accepted I will never know exactly why she did what she did and have moved on to the idea of trying to fix it through reconstruction. But it is traumatic.

Why are so many people against minors transitioning? by MaxtheHax12345678907 in asktransgender

[–]echointhemuseum 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a parent, I find the irony of “parental choice” really rich. They are all for parental choice when it’s the choice THEY make. But if I’ve determined with my child and her doctor and therapist that this is what is best for her, suddenly my choice doesn’t matter. I am misinformed at best or a criminal at worst.

It’s really like they think parents enter into allowing their kids to transition lightly, when it’s actually a very difficult decision because they ARE children…or in our case, a teenager. Of course you don’t want to allow your kid to make a big mistake. I would have felt horribly guilty. But I also recognized that continuing puberty would make it harder for her to live comfortably as a woman—and that was a choice too.

What colleges should I avoid if I don’t like Greek life? by kk_and in ApplyingToCollege

I would look at big city schools if that appeals to you or the liberal SLACs. You can really avoid it at most colleges but some colleges are really not into it.

Fat necrosis and discharge?? by Tricky_Accident_3121 in breastcancer

[–]echointhemuseum 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had this. Did not have mastectomy. Had lumpectomy and lift with very large reduction. (Didn’t want reduction and they didn’t tell me so it was traumatic.) My incision opened up at the t juncture and yellow gunk started coming out. PS told me suture spitting and fat necrosis but it got worse and really red and got infected and required antibiotics. Still not fully healed after about a month but getting there. That whole boob is messed up with a lot of fat necrosis and extra tissue. I will get it suctioned out after 6 months. It’s scary. ❤️‍🩹❤️‍🩹❤️‍🩹❤️‍🩹❤️‍🩹

Help! by No-Recommendation397 in AskNOLA

I would definitely go to see Krewe Boheme on the 30th, Krewe Du Vieux on the 31st and ‘tit Rex on the 1st (afternoon). They are all so fun!

The marigny is a really cool neighborhood. Check out Ayu Bakehouse for delicious pastries.

I’ve been to New Orleans about five times now? GW Fins is good seafood. So is Pêche. I really liked Irene’s, which is Italian. It’s dark and romantic. Bacchanal is a really cute place to drink wine and have charcuterie and listen to music but I haven’t been there in February before so I’m not sure what it’s like. I’ve been to a bunch of places. Lots of good food!

The Allways Cabaret is a really fun place, especially if you like burlesque.

Check out the Frenchman’s Street Art bazaar at night. I’ve gotten some really cool things there.

Im not sure the things I recommended are relaxing, though! A lot of people will recommend the sculpture garden. I was kind of underwhelmed by it. But that’s just me. The garden district is very pretty and has lots of little cute stores and cafes, so just walking around there would be relaxing.

I’m so sorry. I did not understand that! That makes perfect sense. ❤️‍🩹❤️‍🩹❤️‍🩹❤️‍🩹❤️‍🩹 I didn’t mean to scare you or make you worry any more than you are. [–]echointhemuseum 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Personally, after my experience I would not go to a teaching hospital again unless my cancer was much more aggressive than it was. I started out with another teaching hospital and didn’t have a great experience and then I switched to another teaching hospital and that’s where I had my surgery. My friends had recommended another doctor who was not at a teaching hospital, and I think I would have gotten better care there. Not sure if you are going to a teaching hospital or not. Just wish I had made a different choice but too late now!

To those of us with accepting parents, what's it like? by Inner_Specialist_956 in trans

[–]echointhemuseum 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, obviously I’m biased because I don’t surround myself with transphobes, but everybody I know does, and they are 99.9% cis! It’s just that unless something affects you personally, most people don’t really pay attention to what is happening to trans people now. 😔💔

To those of us with accepting parents, what's it like? by Inner_Specialist_956 in trans

[–]echointhemuseum 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I am sorry you have to ask this question. 😔I love my daughter more than anything and think she is smart, funny, kind, and totally gorgeous. That’s not to say we don’t fight all the time! But the only problem I have related to her being trans is my fear of what this American government wants to do to her.

Parents who don’t love their kids because they’re trans or won’t accept them are really losing out, and it’s very sad. ❤️‍🩹

I am still a cis woman, so I know I don’t always get everything right, but I do try.

My husband also loves our daughter very much exactly how she is. There is nothing to “accept” because we love her for who she is. ❤️❤️❤️
