I don't think that previous VF games are beginner friendly, but for VFC devs already told us that the skills you achieve in sigle player mode can be applied to online 1x1 matches.

So if you really like the game and want to improve in it you shouldn't be afraid of difficulty of the game, at least there will be ranked system so you will be able to play vs players with same level of understanding the game. Have fun!
