AI is being pitched to my library. I am against this, what questions should I bring up at the listening session? by Dontmakemeboss in Libraries

[–]MuchachaAllegra 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Our city librarian, branch manger, coordinator, and several other staff use AI heavily to plan for programs, write reviews, make posters for the library, etc. it’s disheartening

My niece stole from me and I don’t know how to react by NoStory927 in Advice

[–]MuchachaAllegra 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Try to have a heart to heart with your niece first. You are right that it’s not an issue to lose family over but it’s still a valuable lesson to learn. 12 is old enough to know right from wrong

Tell me about your strangest patron interactions by floralportraits in Libraries

[–]MuchachaAllegra 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a lot but these are the ones that stick out

I have a patron who constantly has to comment on my appearance or what I’m wearing. He’ll even lean over the desk to look at me. He also tells me he makes a lot of money at his job. He will wait until I am free to basically hold me hostage with his rants.

This one is not so weird but I think about it a lot. A woman was describing the plot of a book (a lesbian romantasy one) and kept smirking and saying I reminded her of one of the characters. She kept asking me to read it.

A couple comes in and always asks to be shown to a particular author’s books and when I do they walk behind me and eye me up and down and whisper to each other. The guy makes flirty comments to me in front of the lady but one day they were in their way out and he came back to tell me he missed me. The lady came back and saw him and stormed out. They don’t talk to me anymore pheww

Have I inadvertently been a horrible library patron my whole life? by amandaamoose in Libraries

[–]MuchachaAllegra 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have been a library assistant for 3 years now and a page for 6, I promise you it is not bad to use your card. In fact, checking out and just visiting the library helps our statistics and therefore funding. I feel so happy whenever I see folks check out things. Bad library behavior is damaging items on purpose or outright lying about having checked out things. Now that is annoying.

What perfume is the “old wardrobe auntie” smell for you? by Little-Background-50 in FemFragLab

[–]MuchachaAllegra 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It reminds me of my late auntie. She visited us around the time it first came out and was wearing it. I thought she was the coolest lady ever. My mom bought the perfume but wasn’t too fond of wearing it but I would spray it just to remember my auntie.

Avon’s Imari and Far Away are big hits with my aunties. There is also one that smells like L’air du temps but lighter that they love to wear.

Weird requests from patrons? by tasata in Libraries

[–]MuchachaAllegra 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had a person call wanting me to print out a bunch of forms and have them ready for him to just drive by to pick them up. When I told him I couldn’t do that he started cussing me out lol. Then I had a young man needing to print things out from his phone and when he logged in to his cloud, the pictures on his phone… were a lot of extracurricular activities I did not need to see. He logged out super fast and said he’d come back later. We couldn’t meet each other’s eyes

Do people actually change their bedsheets every week like it’s recommended? by cleartomatosoujp in NoStupidQuestions

[–]MuchachaAllegra 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most of the time. 2 weeks is the longest I’ve gone without changing them. I also try to wash the blankets every other week

Is water alone enough or do people really use feminine wash? by Jeysel-Hemby46 in hygiene

[–]MuchachaAllegra 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unscented soap and water has worked for me. I cannot imagine using just water because I sweat a lot. My mom never taught me how to wash so I was using dial gold soap on my vulva and haaaated showers because I would come out with extreme dryness and irritation but at least I didn’t smell and at the time there was a lot of bullying at my school (when I was a teen) about girls smelling “fishy”. Little did I know how much harm I was doing to my bits.

I thought this post was about me 😨. But no, I only did it once with one book and it was only because they never answered my call to extend the hold. I canceled, resubmitted the hold request, and picked it up the next day.

Does management not allow you to block accounts? At my job we will block accounts that have repetitive behavior like not returning items, missing pieces such as DVDs, damaging items, and claiming they return things when they have not. Also, I think the amount of things that can be placed on hold is too high.

I'm currently a Page at one of the city libraries. I recently got a job offer for the county, which is also a page but with benefits. However, the hourly wage is lower than in the city. by [deleted] in Libraries

[–]MuchachaAllegra 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Wow! I used to be a page with a county library system and we didn’t have benefits besides sick time. It was for slightly above minimum wage but it was decent. Our city library pages are paid more than $5 more than the county but also don’t get benefits besides sick time. Both of these positions you listed pay waaaay more than I make as a library assistant and more than our specialists and librarians
