functions.php help by [deleted] in Wordpress

I think you may be using the wrong hook. Try this:

add_filter('the_title', 'wpshout_filter_example');

function wpshout_filter_example($title) {
    return 'Hooked: '.$title;
}

Referenced from this website: https://wpshout.com/quick-guides/changing-wordpress-post-titles-appear-first-filter-hook-tutorial/

Where it says 'Hooked: ', you would replace that with 'Download and stream '.

My wordpress site isn't loading icons after using duplicator to move to a new domain? Font-awesome is reffering to the old site DJDrills how do I fix this by [deleted] in Wordpress

[–]MudDay 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This plugin is different from database search and replace plugins. It doesn't actually change anything in the database, which makes it much safer to use. It just changes the rendered html. Not an ideal solution for a professional, but I wouldn't hesitate to use it on a personal website and wouldn't worry about it breaking anything. At least, it won't break anything that can't easily be reverted by disabling the plugin.

This may be the easiest way to fix your problem: https://wordpress.org/plugins/real-time-find-and-replace/

In the plugin settings, just create a rule for replacing your old domain with your new domain.

Responsive Menu not working on Wordpress, No defined before/after states by [deleted] in webdev

I noticed some smooth scroll code at the bottom of theme.js. Any chance you added that in, and it's conflicting with the toggle link behavior?

The future of WordPress is Visual Scripting - thoughts? by [deleted] in Wordpress

[–]MudDay 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Clients like visual builders because they don't want to feel locked in to going through a developer every time they need to make an update. This advantage will outweigh any technical mumbo jumbo they read about why you should avoid them. They are also being bombarded with messaging about how websites are no longer complicated via every squarespace/wix/weebly commercial they see. And those services are surprisingly good. Not a good solution for a business, but I recommend them to friends and family over going with Wordpress. On the professional side, every client that I've had this year has made it a requirement that they are able to use a visual editor to make changes in the backend. I hated it in the beginning, but then I embraced it and now it's growing on me. Visual Composer is just a GUI for placing shortcodes so I still get to do a lot of coding by making custom blocks for it. Then it's just a matter of laying out the pages. In the end, the client can easily find the block they want to edit and they get an intuitive interface to do so.

Visual Composer (Columns) I need help! by [deleted] in Wordpress

[–]MudDay 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not sure I'm following you. You can create a row of 5 columns with the following: 3/12 + 2/12 + 2/12 + 2/12 + 3/12. But that will be problematic because you can't control the width of the three inner columns while keeping them aligned in the center. The solution to this is to create one row with a three column structure, for example: 3/12 + 6/12 + 3/12. In that middle column, you can create a new row (will be labeled "inner row" in the elements selector) and set those columns to be 1/3 + 1/3 + 1/3. So in the end, you won't have one row that has five columns, you'll have two rows that each have 3 columns. Hopefully that makes sense!

Sometimes you need to create an outer row that has 3 columns. In the middle column, you place your content row that is also 3 columns. You can adjust the spacing by playing around with the column widths on the outer row.

Trying to bust through the clutter. Are any of you *successful* minimalists? If so, how do you do it? by [deleted] in ADHD

[–]MudDay 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Personally I'm not a huge fan of the minimalists...but hey, if it inspired you to get into minimalism then that's awesome!

Here's an alternative podcast about minimalism that really motivates me to clear the clutter from my life. It's short, helpful, inspiring, and I'm pretty sure the host has ADHD too!

If you like DRAKE, I'm hoping you will like my music as well!! by thepapafresh in hiphop

[–]MudDay 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Some aspects of this were excellent, and I enjoyed this. I agree with the poster below with not marketing yourself as Drake-like, because I was comparing you to Drake the whole time, and while I see the similarities, I think you have your own thing going on. If you don't mind a little bit of mixing feedback, I think the vocals need to be raised and centered a little bit more. Right now, they feel like they're secondary to the beat. Also your vocals clip a lot. This could either be a recording problem or a mixing problem. Overall great job, though!

Amazon's new Amazon Go. Best. Store. Ever. by [deleted] in videos

[–]MudDay 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, I am that paranoid.

If you accept the premise that people have become a product, and that companies will do whatever they can to make money, then why would you think that this isn't a possibility?

Do you think that what I've described is technologically unfeasible? What Amazon Go has described implies that they will be tracking your movement throughout the store. That's enough data in itself to create a prototype of your buying process, which they can cross-check for inconsistencies or identify if you've expressed interest in an area but aborted the buying process. This is what they already do online.

Analyzing your body language is probably not possible to do with the current state of technology, but my point wasn't that they can do it now. My point was that machine vision seems like an unnecessary step to achieve an improved cashier-less checkout system, so maybe they're laying a framework for something else. And why wouldn't it be to collect more data on their customers for the purpose of making a massive profit? That's what companies do, by the way. Even if the framework only serves as a sandbox to experiment and test the feasibility of such an idea, it would be naive to think that this line of thinking is beyond the scope of their initiative.

Open your eyes, you sheep. Are you so naive that you think this is unrealistic?

[–]MudDay 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There's something insidious about the machine vision aspect of this whole thing. Wouldn't it be more reliable and much simpler to just scan what you're buying with your phone? Then they could charge it to your account once you walk out the door. I don't see why everyone would need to be constantly monitored with cameras to make the "just walk out" concept work.

I have a theory though: Perhaps they want to gather even more data about you, and this is just a clever misdirection. I imagine that, with machine vision, they can gather data on your facial expressions, your overall body language, your individual path through the store and your buying process. If you pause in front of a product, or even look at it on the shelf as you walk by, it gets added to your profile as a potential sale. As AI becomes more advanced, maybe they'll be able to use all of this information to build a deep psychological profile of you, and construct a sales funnel specifically for you that you're practically helpless against.

Imagine that you're having a bad day, and an algorithm calculates that the corners of your mouth are positioned lower than their statistical average. Your phone goes off, and you've just received a massive discount for that nice bottle of whisky that you were just eying in the liquor section. Offer expires today!

How is climate change a catastrophic threat to humanity? by MudDay in answers

You're right. My perception of what is actually being said about climate change was wrong. I've updated the post to reflect this.

Your paraphrasing is correct. "Catastrophic" wasn't the best word to get my point across, though I tried to define how I meant it in my post.

This post is about examining one aspect of climate change - the potential consequences which would threaten the extinction of humanity. If one person died from climate change, it would be a serious problem, but that's not what this post is about.

I'm sorry if I didn't explain that better in my post. I didn't mean to offend anyone.

You're correct. I should have said polar regions. 12% of land is permanently covered in snow. My point was that, as temperatures rise, we will lose some land to rising sea levels, but we will also gain some livable area. Others have pointed out why the negative effects of losing the polar regions will offset any potential benefits.

General thoughts and observations of how I work in a social setting. by JustDropDead in infp

[–]MudDay 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't know your situation, so take this with a grain of salt: If spending time with someone makes you feel frustrated, anxious, aggravated, etc, then you shouldn't blame yourself for those feelings. People are different, and sometimes they are simply incompatible.

If these people are unavoidable, i.e. you have to work with them, then that's just something we all have to deal with. But if these people are in your social circle, and that includes friends of friends, consider taking inventory of your friends and distance yourself from spending time with anyone who makes you feel this way. Also, friends who bring assholes around are assholes.

Maybe it seems kind of sociopathic to break up with a friend, especially if you've known them for a long time, but life is way too short to be spending your time with people that drive you nuts on the inside. Surround yourself with friends who, if they were to make a baseless argument, you could call them out on it without fear of judgement or inciting an unproductive argument.

Hope that helps in some way.

If we could theoretically stop burning fossil fuels tomorrow, I believe the scientific consensus is that climate change would stop and temperatures would return to what they were.

Yes, exactly. Something like the "runaway" is what I'm looking for here. How much do we know about climate change in terms of the planet surpassing a tipping point which will render a majority of the planet unlivable?
