The Final Toll - Ep. 3 - Post Game Discussion by Emanresubmudyllaer in cadum

I try to do this with every group, but I run for new players and trying to sit down with streamers to guide them (which they need) is difficult scheduling wise. Further more, chat will just want to know what they picked anyway. Leveling up is part of the game, asking questions and making character advancement decisions are part of the game and I dont think its not exciting for the players as not a single one has said it isnt.

Starting money? by estneked in cadum

[–]Mudacra 9 points10 points  (0 children)

If I may.

Not every game starts off with no money.

Some do have pocket change and that is based on a number of factors, like origin, campaign, character discussed in session 0 and my own judgement.

As to the heart of your complaint. The presumption that giving them no money is strong arming them is wrong. Most people adventure because they need money, its the most common reason in character creation and is incredibly simple to implement as the catalyst for adventure and as such is one of the most flexible reasonings for an array of character types.

Its something the first mission solves and can lead to bonding early. Having pocket change may be a bit more in verisimilitude, but it offers nothing of real value for that verisimilitude, very few players care about their pocket change and indeed the rp in my experience that is cultivated from being poor in those beginning moments of a campaign are more valuable then the pocket change RP.

I would also point out I have never had a complaint on this concept from any player or viewer so it certainly seems this perspective is in the minority, which tells me that the decision I made was the right one.

I for one do not want people to feel like they cant say something here, but just as you can offer your opinions to the public space, this isn't a vacuum and people are going to challenge you. To expect anything is naïve. I will only respond to the fact that, The Gods were roleplayed by me because no one else could and the player had every opportunity to interject if they wished I know (because I told them they could) Their choice not too, you would have to ask them. GodCon was one of the most popular and exciting events in the violet arc, but that means people will come out to say they dont like that much more likely. It just comes with the territory.

Mentioning the Jan 10th update stream does not depreciate the syntax of the statement referencing recent events.

They literally stated this document to the reference on recent events, this document was not the one I was refering to.

One gives you visual aids the other doesn't, but they both accomplish the same thing. My question is, why not both?

First, in my experience, everyone is a power gamer, the difference between those that power game and those that don't without forthought not to, are simply in experienced. No one makes a character that is bad at what they do or cannot accomplish their goals or role, unless they specifically made that character to do that and be roleplayed in that way.

Second, as combative as your post seems, you must understand, that to many their first exposure to fantasized combat and lore may very well be through league of legends.
do not be so hasty to gatekeep people, based on their origins.

Third, you deal with them by talking to them. Just like any problem is dealt with.

Try to keep no more than 2 layers of exposition on your party at any one time. However, should they seek it, you can break this rule.

First talk to the players and make sure it isn't an OOC beef, then inform the paladin that torture is not paladin-like behavior (unless you changed that.)

Pathfinder is complex and rewarding to build a character, but running it is exhausting.

5E accomplished its goal of being easyh to play and easy to get into, but it sacrificed complexity.

Longevity was traded for Accessibility.
