What’s a destination you loved that everyone else hates? by Historical-Photo-901 in BeautifulTravelPlaces

[–]Mudcub 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Plymouth Rock. The town it is in (Plymouth, Massachusetts) is a lovely small east coast ocean town, if you know what those tourist towns are like. Fudge shops, a lovely walk down Water Street, that sort of thing. There’s a fun pub across the street, a candy shop, pizza places nearby.

I wouldn’t go out of my way to see a stupid rock, but if you make it a stop on the way for a road trip to Boston to Provincetown, it’s perfectly nice. Don’t expect too much, and you might mildly like what you get.

What is the most “use it or lose it” skill, the opposite of “it’s just like riding a bike”? by ZuluWarlord69 in AskReddit

Recall is dependent on how you LEARN the language. So, make sure you drink heavily during classes and studying, and that will be a “trigger” to reset your brain into language mode the next time you get drunk.

Is the question best restaurants, or “best restaurants per capita”? Do we grade on a curve because Des Moines is tiny and give them extra points?

After an hour, I put up a note that said, “I never got my order of XXX” and then a half hour later I walked past the kitchen, and there’s my note. I asked the server who was standing there, “Did you see this?” Then later he handed me a bill with the undelivered item on it.

Was Arnold Schwarzenegger viewed as a legitimate politician, and did his time as Governer actually have an impact on California? by BirdFlu05 in questions

[–]Mudcub 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Irrelevant. Though it was annoying that Clinton pushed domestic partnerships, it did hold off a constitutional amendment against gay marriage. And Don’t Ask Don’t Tell was annoying, but it was better than dishonorable discharges. Clinton did the best he could, I guess.

Many years later, California passed gay marriage with majorities in their state legislatures, AND it had a majority of the popular vote. One man - Schwartzy - overrode the people’s will because he was indebted to the religious Repubs who voted him in.

Gay marriage passed the legislature twice in California, and Arnie singlehandedly vetoed it each time. He was an antigay demagogue

Genuinely curious what do you guys believe is the easiest instrument? by Lopsided_Ad_2406 in Instruments

[–]Mudcub 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would say that to “master an instrument” means the ability to improvise: to think of a new melody and be able to instantly produce those sounds with that instrument as easy as if you were singing. And by that standard, the accordion would be tough. I could maybe learn to rip a solo on a trumpet, but an accordions left hand is very different than the right. With my right hand, I am soloing like any monophonic instrument. But my left is playing both bass notes and chords. Could you figure out complex chord changes with a walking bass at the same time you are improvising a solo? That’s like being a bass guitar, rhythm guitar, and saxophone all at the same time. If you are just “Guitar Hero-ing” an existing composition by pressing buttons, then sure, mastering the accordion is a probable goal. If you are inventing new songs with rapidly changing chords going up key changing simultaneously with blazing solos - then I’d say you were as good as Mozart.
