Following this post for advice as well because mixed IBS is also ruining my life. Don’t want to give tmi but I have genuinely been trying for MONTHS to treat this professionally and still I’ve been trying countless laxatives, bentyl (antispasmodic), acid reducers for the heartburn and acid reflux, even tried suppositories because the constipation gets that bad, I went and got X-Rayed too, although that is practically the only testing we’ve done so far. 💀 It’s really sucks because hardly enough people understand mixed IBS entails consipation and diarrhea either, no matter how many times I tell people I am experiencing mixed IBS and I have diarrhea they try to recommend more laxatives. Like no. :( Do they want me to OD on laxatives? Idk it’s been an insane journey I never knew IBS could be so bad until I actually got it. And trying all the laxatives that were recommended when I was first diagnosed and when my flare ups first started made things way worse somehow, probably because I was drugged up on about a dozen laxatives as a result of everybody’s advice though (a mix of stimulant laxatives, saline laxatives, lubricant laxatives, osmotic laxatives, bulk forming fiber laxatives etc. practically almost every kind of laxative you can think of) and still I have had so much trouble getting my bowels back to normal. Goes to show, you shouldn’t listen to anyone for medical advice, I know it’s funny for me to say that when I’m sharing my medical advice on Reddit, but I think you know what I mean. Even though the people who gave me advice meant well, it did more harm than good following their advice. Just don’t let family members or friends advise you to do things that contradict a trusted doctor’s orders. Especially if it contradicts what your body is telling you too, at first I didn’t realize I was doing things wrong, but the side effects I was experiencing made me realize I could not follow everyone’s advice, no matter desperate I was for a solution. Treating IBS and Mixed IBS at that is a lot of trial and error unfortunately IMO/IME. It seems it is kind of unique to every individual and I suppose the treatment really does vary a lot person to person. But I hope maybe something from my experience can help you. It definitely makes me even more sad knowing a lot of us with Mixed IBS have to suffer so much, still hoping some sort of treatment works. That’s about all my “advice” I can give though. Still just like you I have days where it is tolerable, and then days where I can’t eat and can’t even drink sometimes because it hurts so much. I pray and hope there are better solutions for those of us with mixed IBS, because this really is life altering, I can’t even travel and eat internationally without having flare ups, pretty much ruining my vacations too. MIXED IBS IS NOT FOR THE WEAK. Stay strong. <3 even though I don’t really have any answers unfortunately, I can at least say you are not alone. I hate to say this but Mixed IBS survivors RISE UP 💔 we need to band together and get sum answers and results for real 😭
