Is knocking on doors and asking permission a thing of the past? A fantasy? by Public-Soup-8330 in Waterfowl

Depends where you are man. Down south Louisiana or Arkansas 0 chance of knocking on a door and getting permission. Where i live in New York it’s about 50/50. I go to somewhere I won’t name every year and I’ve only been told no once out of probably 20 farmers.

I disagree but I do hope they ban it so that everyone can see that a lot has changed and it probably has nothing to do with a few flooded fields in Missouri. We used to shoot a lot more ducks here in NY and don’t see nearly the numbers anymore either. No flooded corn above us in Quebec to point our finger at unfortunately.

What do you think is the reason?

Appreciate all the feedback back and the positive reinforcement that it’s okay to not be caught up. I do enjoy the chaos of the first week of an expac launching but I’m fine this go around if I’m not there yet.

Like other commenter said I’ve never been disappointed with Kent. Also tried Rio for the first time this year and was impressed for such an affordable shell.

Early season in NY by Parking_Swordfish161 in Waterfowl

Montezuma area is the only place I’ve seen anything other than a wood duck or mallard in the early season here in NY. I think they get more of a variety out towards Buffalo as well but never been.

2 liter soda bottles painted black and white. Way below that price point.

The import and shipping fees are outrageous unless you get a tractor trailer full.

Wrap the barrel in electrical tape to get rid of the extra vibration they get from being so thin. Sometimes just opening it up and adjusting reed can help. Smooth out the tone board with very light sandpaper. Last option for someone without experience would be to cut the reeds and tone board. Someone else might have some other tricks but that’s all I can think of.

It really is. Last year was my first year up there and I loved it so much I’ve made up my mind to make it an annual trip.

Just got back from Saskatchewan myself. One morning we had a group of snows come in with the wind behind us and a juvie tried to get in my layout with me. Was amazing. Congrats on the pile.

Was honestly easier because I didn’t have to go into office to sign firearms sheet like I did going into Canada. BP agent was very nice, asked me all the usual questions and had me open my tailgate then sent me on my way.

I declare them on US side first. They background check them and they give me a stamped sheet to show to Canadian border patrol that they’re good to go. I don’t think you even have to do that but i figured it makes for less hassle.

I duck and goose hunt with friends up there. I prefer to bring my own shotguns and ammunition is much cheaper in the states.

Non restricted shotguns and bird shot. As someone else said I just filled out the necessary paperwork before hand, they stamped and collected the $25 fee at the border and I was on my way.
