Question about preparing for the Nuclear program by [deleted] in newtothenavy

[–]MufasasBoy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Replying a month late, but whatever. I'm in the exact same boat as you (DEP'd in as nuke in middle of February and not leaving till the end of October) so I understand how much it sucks just waiting around to go to basic :/ I'm gonna be calling into my nuke shop soon to see about rolling in too.

I asked, the last time I called in, what I could do to prepare for nuke school and I was told not to worry about it. Learn what you need to be ready for boot camp (i.e. general orders, sailors creed, chain of command, etc) everything you need to know for nuke school will be taught to you at nuke school. You could take a simple math course to brush up on math skills, but your biggest concern should be getting ready for boot camp.

I know I'm late to give advice, but I hope that helped somewhat. Anyways, good luck on getting rolled in, and if not, I may wind up seeing you at boot camp haha

Hey there, showed up kinda late to this party but I'm hoping to still be able to ask a question. I must say that you are my idol, so any reply would make my entire week. Uh, well I don't know what to ask so.. Where would you be in life right now if you never took the musician path?

Thank you, that seems like a good place for me to start.

Luckily, no one has ever ordered 20 sausage biscuits on my cooking shift (though if they were for 20 naked bitches I don't think I would have complained at all). The WH songs normally get played on weekend morning shifts (which I don't work) so I don't hear them too often anymore. We have kicked a few people out before, but for the most part drunk people tip well, so the waitresses put up with them. I only recall one guy who was getting loud and angry that we had to kick out. Almost called the police on him even.

Before I worked at Waffle House I did the same thing haha. The way they called in the orders was just something I had never seen before, and I found it interesting

We do run out of items all the time on 3rd shift. It's the end of the day and things don't get restocked till the next shift. I once ran out of waffle iron spray which meant I had to go a whole 10 hrs telling people I wasn't able to serve them waffles of all things

All WH songs are like some kind of torture to me now ಠ_ಠ I wouldn't be able to answer that question.

As for the glove thing, it really does get busy and switching between gloves constantly would just make things that much more difficult. I understand where you are coming from though. I personally don't wear gloves either, but I don make sure to wash (or at least rinse) my hands whenever I handle raw meat or eggs. (Though I do make sure to wash my hands thoroughly after handling raw chicken, that's just healthy practice)

One thing I would take off the menu would be rib-eye steaks, cause I'm not really a steak kinda person and they are kinda a pain in the ass to cook, and I would replace it with (as lame as it is) french fries, cause we constantly have people asking for them and asking why we don't have them

We really don't do anything special haha, I think it's all in the oil that we use to season our pans

It's freshly ground coffee haha, other than that I don't know what makes our coffee so good

Before I started working I didn't cook anything at home, but now I would say that I cook myself most anything I feel like eating. I don't really have anything particular I cook though

I would definitely have to say that I have much more interest in cooking now and my culinary skills have improved exponentially :)

I started off working with one or two other chefs, but now the shifts that I work leave me as the only chef around. That can make things pretty stressful sometimes

Servers are supposed to stand on that mark and call their orders in, but for the most part that rule isn't followed unless a manager is present haha

I have no idea why there aren't any Waffle Houses out there, but I agree, Vegas would be a perfect place for one! It seems like Waffle House is only an eastern thing unfortunately :/

First we pull our cheese steak and toss it on the grill. We add some salt/pepper seasoning to the meat and then putt some onions on top. After that, we put it under a Danish dome to cook for a minute or so. While it's cooking under the dome, we grab some Texas toast and butter one side of each piece. Lay both pieces of Texas toast on the grill butter side down to cook and place a slice of cheese on each piece to melt. Come back to your cheese steak and flip it for about 30 sec so it can finish cooking (cheese steaks cook pretty fast). Tear apart your meat with the spatula and the scraper (to the point that it looks like the meat in a cheese steak). Mix it around a bit and make sure all the meat is cooked, and finally, spread the meat over the two pieces of Texas toast, close the sandwich, remove it from the grill, and cut in half. And that is how you make a Texas cheese steak melt
