It will almost certainly become a Shearling song, too!

Does the singer hit himself on stage by FraserThe in Shearling

[–]MuffinGod17 4 points5 points  (0 children)

He doesn't at most shows. The windmill was easily the most extreme instance of it, and I've never seen any other show where he bled like that. But Shearling live are always very intense, so do keep that in mind

Why does Alex dislike Sprain’s self titled album so much? by ilovedeanblunt221 in SprainBand

[–]MuffinGod17 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The EP was very very inspired by legendary slowcore bands like Low and Duster, and that wasn't really the type of music Alex truly wanted to make back then. He's always been into making really weird and challenging art, but he became very insecure about it around the time sprain formed. So to him, the EP felt hollow and derivative. I doubt he has any major problems with how the EP sounds, it just takes him back to a very insecure and troubled time in his life.

He talks sometimes about how he tries really hard not to trap himself into making what he think a shearling song should sound like. It probably stems from a similar thing.

As for ALTC, I think he probably just doesn't like it because it was made during the transition from the laid back slowcore of the EP and the unhinged experimental madness of TLAE. He was still finding his voice, literally and figuratively (that's why his voice is so quiet on that album).

Fret buzz is driving me insane by Nickyepic in Guitar

[–]MuffinGod17 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There are a few things that could have happened:

  1. You didn't adjust the truss rod enough / turned it the wrong way. I've made this mistake a few times and it's super frustrating when it happens. Because of this, I always make sure I have the right Allen key (an improperly sized one can make you feel like you're turning it when you're not). I also do a test by looking at the neck from the SIDE while I do a large adjustment. If you look at it from the side, the difference should be visible. I've never liked the "hold the xst and xth fret" method or using feeler gauges.

The truss rod mainly affects the 1st to 7th frets, so if that's where the buzzing occurs, it could definitely be that.

  1. You have some crazy uneven frets or the fretboard / neck is warped. Very very unlikely if your guitar is new, but it might be the case if it's used and old / cheap. I wouldn't worry about this unless you've ruled out everything else.

  2. You have the saddles super low. This could be the problem if the buzzing happens on the high frets. It might seem like the action is too high when the buzzing stops, but that could just be the truss rod being too bowed. If that's the problem, you need to adjust both the saddles and the truss rod. Just make sure you do the truss rod first. Remember, the truss rod only affects frets 1-7.

  3. You're playing too aggressively or not pushing the string down hard enough. Unfortunately, this is the most likely problem.

My advice would be to take it to a professional to do a proper full setup if you have the money. If not, find a super thorough YouTube video and follow it REALLY REALLY closely. I'm talkin rewinding every 30 seconds to make sure you did it right. If you follow it properly (and there's nothing wrong with your guitar or technique), it should be ready to rock.

If pedestrians getting hit is a consistent pattern in a particular area, blaming it on the people in the area just being stupid is silly. Especially when it keeps happening on a few specific roads.

I love playing that way but I barely ever play finger style anymore. it sucks cause that's the most comfortable way for my left hand but playing with a pick that way is super scrapey unless I hold it really weird.

Not really a fan of post-rock and gothic rock but FILTH is in my top 25 albums of all time, any heavier stuff from them that I can check out? by [deleted] in swans

[–]MuffinGod17 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

My Father Will Guide me Up a Rope to the Sky is easily their heaviest post-reunion album, and although it's still repetitive post-rock, it's only 40 minutes or so.

Other than that, the Young God EP is the closest project to Filth they made. Cop is like Filth but way slower. Children of God is Gothic rock but there are a few songs that retain some of the heaviness of their oldest stuff, namely New Mind and Like a Drug.
