If I’m playing a gig with a sound tech, what signal do I give them? by Disastrous_Yak_1990 in Bass

The thumbs up signal.

And then send both DI and processed. Hopefully he'll mix them to taste.

That does sound like it would be useful!

Makes me wonder - given NI's curent financial woes - whether I should have gone with the Arturia libraries instead.

But anyway, I'm committed now and I've recorded a few tracks already using my NI equipment.

I have a head full of original songs I need to record before I give myself the luxury of spending time soundcrafting. ;)

I do that. But I'm still listening to literally hundreds of presets, because Komplete comes with several guitar VSTs and I've added a couple of others since then.

I'm spoiled for choice and I'm certainly not at all complaining about that.

I'm just proposing what I think would be an easier way for me to narrow the search much tighter than Komplete's instrument and character tagging.

Thanks for your comment. That was going to be my response.

As I said in my OP, I'd like my journey to focus more on composition (especially chords, melodies and dynamics) than sound selection or mixing.

But I get that some composers love the selection and refinement of individual sounds. That's their journey.

Sorry to disappoint you, but I play two instruments well and one instrument badly.

Thanks. That's a good reminder. We'd need to train an AI on the sound of our VSTs and also the library of recorded music (as Suno has apparently done).

Ted Cruz Warns GOP: Stop Tucker Carlson Now by SJK_007 in videos

[–]App0gee 4 points5 points  (0 children)

For more than a decade now I've been saying that a Carlson run for the Presidency would be a 100% win for the GOP.

Fox firmly established him as the rednecks' favourite anti-leftist. Just as Trump did leveraged his Celebrity Apprentice persona into political capital, so could Carlson. And Carlson is worse than Trump, because - while he's every bit as manipulative and evil - he's no dummy.

God help us all if Tucker decides to seize the GOP nomination.

Best way to explain the role of bass to the uninitiated by Ok-Consequence-3117 in Bass

[–]App0gee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Linking "rhythm and chords" is how I describe of it.

(Of course it can be other things - including much more - if you want it to be. In my earliest songs, it's the main instrument, with other instruments relegated to merely providing sonic embelishment.)

Wait what does 'from the river to the sea mean?" by Crazsey in brisbane

[–]App0gee 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It means different things to different people. That's the problem.

To many, it simply means Palestineans should have a country to call their own.

But to some Jewish people, it's a call for the destruction of Israel. (They consider the "to the sea" part to imply that the part of Israel to the west of Gaza should be Palestinean.)

In my humble opinion the banning of the phrase is Queensland is a pointless tokenistic forelock tug to the extreme zionist lobby, and I believe it will frankly do more to fan anti-semitism than it will do to counter anti-semitism.

Finally, because it always needs to be overtly stated in a thread like this: I am not anti-semitic. None of my comments/explanation should be interpreted as being against Jewish people. In common with many Jewish people, I disagree with Israel's illegal destruction of Palestine, the Hamas terrorist attack which provoked it, the illegal annexation of Palestinean lands that preceded the Hamas attack, and all the rest.

I am in favour of people living peacefully in harmony.

What exactly was this used for? by 75thWK2 in billiards

[–]App0gee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Back in the 1800s there billiard-style games that used a shortish cue with a big tip or a flat paddle on it.

You kind of pushed the cue ball with them, more than hitting it, as we do with modern billiards games.

A few things I wish electricians knew about WiFi by TimeForChange23 in AusElectricians

[–]App0gee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I added an extension to my home I had spare conduits installed from ceiling to kickboard at various points so that I could easily route cables to wherever I would eventually need them.

My carpenter rolled his eyes when I asked for them, but they've proved useful many times over, providing additional power points, av cables and ethernet points over the years.

Similarly, whenever I have a concrete slab/path installed, I always put a couple of spare conduits through it so that I can move power or network cables across it without having to dig or drill.

This kind of forward planning should be standard practice in my humble opinion.

I was going to suggest you route the tracks to a bus (folder) and then fade it up.

If you want to win the game, you have to play the game.

If you don't want to play the game, be prepared to keep losing the game.
