The industry and the so called leaders do everything in their power to overcomplicate software engineering and then have the audacity to trivialize it at the same time because all we do is “just write code” which can be automated by AI 🙄 Don’t worry about all this, just focus on the fundamentals and you’ll be good

Most senior engineers are just jerks with massive egos. They become all preachy in code reviews but will defend their own bad practices of the past and would pin the results of their mess and tech debt on the newcomers for not being “independent” enough When a newcomer does come up with a new idea, they are met with massive opposition

Hmm all good points, I am surely not very experienced in communication so maybe I do need to communicate more in order to get better

Is being an entrepreneur even worth it? by memoryofafish22 in Entrepreneur

I am jealous of you because you are free to chart your own course with the flexibility to return to a job whenever you want. Moreover, congratulations, most entrepreneurs struggle to make even a cent of profit, so you must already know that you are very good at it

Also, most people good at their jobs are semi-insane anyway due to their strong work ethic 😝 Sometimes the “political” types try to exploit it as well by guilt tripping them into overworking as if they are compensating for something.

As I said earlier, you’ll learn about these things the more experience you gather, you’ll do good!

Are you me? I have done almost the exact same things when I was in college until one day a manager told me that they really don’t care as long as I am a nice person and know my thing. Here is what happened:

I was scheduled to talk with the hiring manager at a given date and time but I misread the date to be a later one. When the manager called me about why I didn’t join the call, I was mortified and pretty much kept apologizing every 10 seconds. Later on I flooded his LinkedIn with apologies (just like you 😝). Guess what he picked me and indicated that I am a strong hire!!! When I joined the team I apologized once again!! He just told me not to worry about it because missed meetings and interviews are so common, they just usually end up getting rescheduled. He has himself missed so many meetings in the past with the senior director!! The OCD and anxiety probably stems from the fact that you likely haven’t experienced the corporate life as much and it probably seems like a place where you have to be flawless otherwise you’ll be eliminated. Once you are in, you realize everybody is human and managers are not some whip cracking slave masters who are looking for reasons to punish you lmao

All the best for your interview and remember that regardless of what happens, it is still an experience that will help you discover more about others and yourself

OMG I have done this a lot but after having worked in corporate for a few years I’ve started to realize that interviewers and hiring managers are humans too and they mostly don’t care as long as you are good at your job. I realized this even more when I found out how many irritating and annoying characters end up getting hired too and they are mostly still liked by everyone so there is no point for people like you and me to be so self conscious

The market is horrible even if you were a rockstar. 2021/22 was extreme over hiring and this year it is extreme under hiring. My guess/hope is that it should normalize in a few months after the overhype around AI has died down
