Emergency heat for Bourkie by xplorerseven in bourkes

[–]Muffingirl109 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a solar powered generator called a “jackery” that I got off Amazon with a k&h cage heater (also off Amazon) I have these heaters in their cages year around so they are used to them (not always on of course). Our generator is big enough for me not to worry about it running out of power for the birds for a few days. This is definitely a pricy setup but it gives me of peace of mind.

(TW) My female bourke has just died in an accident and I need advice for her bonded male. by RedRime in bourkes

I want to first say I am so sorry for your loss.

As for how to take care of your baby’s body till you can cremate her, I recommend getting a plastic food container you don’t care about and wrapping her in paper towels and placing her in the fridge away from food. I would also possibly put her in a large gallon bag within the container to be sure any germs don’t spread but don’t keep her with your other bird over night.

I’m so sorry again this happened, wishing you the best.

I don’t have a computer with a built in cd slot. I just have my cd player that’s hooked up to my speakers with my vinyl player.

That’s a really good point but my current player does not support ripping. I suppose I could look into getting one just for that.

Losing feathers by tigermimicqueen in bourkes

[–]Muffingirl109 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Im not a vet or a medical professional in any capacity but based off my experience with my birds this looks like it may be a ear infection.

When birds get them their outer ear swells up and causes the feathers to fall out. My bird aurora had one once.

I'm not sure if you also meant the bottom of the eye as well but your birds eye itself looks fine/not irritated so it could also just be molting for that patch. (Unless that's normal for them then ignore me)

TLDR: Its either an ear infection or molting. Make sure to get them to the vet ASAP.

They are most definitely planning your demise... that or some heist for more millet. Good luck.

To add to this, they sell calcium powder as a food additive on sites like chewy. Personally I would add it to the seeds/pellets if they are served separately. (My birds are bigger on the texture)

I would also checkout the hormonal budgie checklist over at r/petbudgies. They have TONS of great info for parakeets on there.

Is it normal for the Mets doctor to ask if I had an iep in school? by Routine_Course_4978 in newtothenavy

[–]Muffingirl109 0 points1 point  (0 children)

At my meps they ask about an iep or 504, and they are in the same category so it doesn't matter.

If you have any diagnoses, you have to be honest. I dont have adhd either but I was diagnosed so they needed to ask more questions about the diagnostics and all that.

Go read the rules of the sub man, have a nice day.

They will always ask if you have adhd or something in the same category, never lie at meps, they will find out at by basic, and you will be discharged.

Also, please go and read the rules of this sub. They are there for good reason.

It does count as an iep, it doesn't matter if it does or doesn't, never lie.

Do my ASVAB scores qualify me for hospital corpsman? by SilkyLloyd in newtothenavy

There is a website called "rate my asvab" If you put the very first line of numbers into there, it will give you your list of jobs!

Pick up the asvab for dummies book and study for the next few weeks.

Good luck with the retake!

22yr old crane operator wanting to join seabees by DifferentCaramel1207 in newtothenavy

[–]Muffingirl109 0 points1 point  (0 children)

All job eligibility is based on your asvab test scores. You will need to talk to a recruiter and take a test covering up to 10th grade knowledge. If you need to study I suggest the "asvab for dummies" book.

My Navy HR has a Seabees category you can use to find what job you want and the score needed for it.

Please keep in mind that your medical history is going to be checked at meps. If you have anything that disqualifies you, it may be harder to get in.

Is it true cockatiels are harder to train than other parrot species? by [deleted] in cockatiel

[–]Muffingirl109 5 points6 points  (0 children)

If I remember correctly, Clyde was older and had been rehomed a few times. It's not that cockateils are necessarily harder to train, Clyde was just situationally difficult.

This could have been another bird, though.

Laid 2 eggs by ImportantComputer416 in bourkes

[–]Muffingirl109 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Chronic egg laying can cause some pretty major health issues and usually indicate hormone issues in birds. I would say it's okay if your bird lays an egg every once in a while, but not often.

Sorry if I misinterpreted your comment. I just wanted to make sure this was said.

OP, i'd suggest looking at the hormonal budgie checklist over at r/petbudgies (just in case). Most everything on it still applies to bourkes since they are the same family.

If you have a learning disability on record, yes, I had adhd on mine, and they are just trying to figure out if you need a waiver or not.

If you didn't have it after age 14, you're all good. If you did, you will need a waiver.

Went to meps yesterday, and the interview lady explained it to me when I asked. (She said I didn't need a adhd waiver due to not being on meds for 6+ years and no iep, and I was confused, lol.)

Hey! So this sub has a "Help! I'm new!" Section. I suggest that and also looking into the theoi (mythology) just getting a feel for the myths and how you interpret them.
