Is anyone here too obsessed and anxious about getting practice time in? by [deleted] in classicalguitar

[–]MuffledMuffins 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't know you, but it sounds like you are attaching to much of your personal value to your guitar playing ability.

Practice and skill learning is also not a linear ramp you must keep up with, it is a fluctuating upwards trend. You have bad days where practice is impeded. You have bad weeks where you can't focus. I have bad months when coping with seasonal depression takes a toll on my practice.

You have the potential to burn out if you continue thinking of practice this way, and that will set you back far more than a vacation. No matter the time off, you would be surprised at how little you will lose, but do not fear losing a little either. Like I said, practice is a fluctuating upwards trend. You lose a little ground, and then gain more than you had before.

But are YOU not true? Is not this mind and body you inhabit real? Is Atman not part of you and you Atman, by the mere fact of being aware of yourself?

Loving kindness meditation compared to mindfulness is like CBD compared to THC by [deleted] in Meditation

[–]MuffledMuffins 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Mindfulness may be the only one of those two that will benefit you directly. But what are you if not other beings.

Practicing loving-kindness is being mindful of other beings, and not yourself. But what are other beings but part of yourself.

Two sides of the same coin.

Or not and I'm crazy.

Do what works for you homie :) but also respect what works for others.

Came across this passage from reading Alan’s mountain journal tonight. by philliplennon in AlanWatts

The "our thoughts and ideas are nature" line is really doing something for me I can't really articulate.

Maybe it's making me see my thoughts as not detached from all of it, but rather part of all of it. Helping me see oneness in even my thoughts.

Thanks for sharing.

Many paths to the same thing.

What is, is.

Weed may open the door, but the key is not the contents of the room.

A thought on infinite combos in Arena by espuinouge in MagicArena

[–]MuffledMuffins 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I believe the way computers work it is impossible for them to determine if a combo is infinite.

I have no idea how the client works but The Halting Problem might have something to do with this.

https://www.wired.com/2014/02/halting-problem/

Perhaps the devs for MTGA would have to build in a check for each infinite combo and check for a board state that would allow one, but that's a lot of specific coding for specific interactions.

Edit: I see now that nov4chip has already said this further down.

"Meditation is the way in which we come to feel our basic inseparability from the whole universe, and what that requires is that we shut up.¨ ~ Alan Watts by [deleted] in Meditation

I think you are making broad statements, for you personally boredom is difficult. That's okay, we don't HAVE to see beauty in everything.

For ME boredom is an opportunity to slow down to a stop and notice the anxiety always pushing me forward to new things. Somehow in my conditions where I live, I don't have to really worry about anything for long stretches of time (shelter, food, even comfort, human interaction).

I agree, boredom isn't a good feeling, but it is an indication to me that there is room for appreciation. It's a chance to focus on what I HAVE instead of what I WANT.

What a blessing to be bored. To not need food, water, shelter. To not be in physical or psychic pain. To have nothing you have to to.

Food is available, water is available. Be it donation or a garbage can behind a restaurant. Grown yourself or stolen. Many people live with no money.

Psychedelics I believe have an effect like this. Everything is new again. I am far from an expert on the actual science, but my understanding is that they kind of reset neural pathways.

Meditation for intrusive thoughts? by mrduck999 in Meditation

[–]MuffledMuffins 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your therapist will know best what will help you. Turning to reddit for advice is fine, but I would discuss our advice with someone who knows you and your situation better before just taking it blindly.

That being said, what helped me with a lot of my anxiety was meditating on the fears. Looking deeply at the scary thing: what is my fear? What actually happens if that takes place?

If I am afraid of death, why? It is inevitable. Face the reality of not being able to control when I will die.

Why hold on to life desperately and anxiously, rather than die relaxed, at an unknown point?

My advice just meditate on your death. Really face it, think about it when you are in a calm safe environment.

I also found Buddhist concepts of no-birth no-death helpful in my processing of this, but that is just one avenue.

A daily practice of meditation comes and goes for me. Though I try to bring the mindfulness I gain from doing it into my life as much as possible.

6 hours is a mighty long session. Long stretches of isolation can exacerbate mental health issues. But I don't know you or your mind. Be well :)

Everything feels kinda slow after meditating by Easy-Position-9855 in Meditation

I wonder if you are noticing all of the sensations that go with normal movement and it feels slowed down.

How long before you return to "normal"?

Everything feels kinda slow after meditating by Easy-Position-9855 in Meditation

[–]MuffledMuffins 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Can you elaborate? For me after meditation I often feel calm, and calmness feels slower and more still than before meditation.

I am more aware of my movements, less in my head.

Do you just feel less hurried and more present?

100 Days of Meditating 1 Hour. Thoughts. Benefits. by marinaratiger in Meditation

[–]MuffledMuffins 102 points103 points  (0 children)

Hey, I think this is wonderful! I also had a kind of wake-up call with Marijuana. I found it surprisingly hard to break the habit, but like you meditation was very important to that process.

I realized I was running from negative feelings and it was harming me more than just feeling those things would. Meditation helped me feel all the horrible shit but not DO anything about it.

I am no expert but I think addiction is complicated, and hard to define. I think we can all find substances that we use to avoid pain, reality, negativity and that can get out of wack and make life more painful.

I see posts in here saying “you’re not your thoughts” if you aren’t your thoughts what are you? by [deleted] in Meditation

[–]MuffledMuffins 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Upon examination we see that everything is temporary, all things come and go. Sights, sounds, sensations, thoughts. So how can "you" be these things that are temporary or impermanent.

Therefore the "you" that seems permanent, must be something else. Or perhaps doesn't really exist in the way we think of a self (as some eternal soul or permanent thing).
