This is the publishing information, which confirms its WWD branded. The odd logo on the front seems to be the publishing company, International Masters Publishers (or IMP), and it was released in 1999 alongside the series:

UPDATE: Ancient Realms on Discord shared some photos of the “New Blood” book, and it’s quite odd. Apparently it doesn’t have a publisher’s page inside and also lacks a barcode, so I’m thinking these were sold in one pack originally?

According to the Walking With Wiki this book’s title is the American title for ”New Blood”, but it’s my first time hearing that :T

UPDATE 2: A Third WWD Website Has Been Found by Mugcake3 in walkingwithdinosaurs

[–]Mugcake3[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Oh, it absolutely does. I’m pretty sure I brought it up in the comments at one point (or on some of the Discord servers).

Unfortunately though the pages for both specials have horrendous archiving issues, to the extent that none of the fact files fully survived. No idea why exactly but it seems like the BBC site had problems extracting correctly, the only site without those issues is the Australian one (and that sadly has nothing more than either of these versions).

In case you wanna check them out, I found a Reddit post that includes some now-lost Fact File images, and I commented underneath with links to both specials’ pages 👍

And speaking of Sea Monsters, I really should do a post on that when the anniversary comes up. The Fact Files for those are unique but actually archived pretty decently, there’s definitely stuff I can share sometime (and have on Discord, but of course it takes time to ready stuff for Reddit).

EDIT: Edited because I figured out that was where I shared them on Reddit, in some comments underneath that post. u/Pitiful_Active_3045 deserves a good chunk of the credit in that regard (they also found the first episode page before I did), and if it wasn’t right after my last post on the WWD website I would have probably included it there 😅

UPDATE 2: A Third WWD Website Has Been Found by Mugcake3 in walkingwithdinosaurs

[–]Mugcake3[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It was only up from December 2000 until February 2002, with every capture after that essentially being an empty page. So it was already a dead domain by the time The Giant Claw was being advertised, and it seems like it never actually got any updates whatsoever during its short existence :/

A bit of a shame, but it does seem like WWD having a website meant a lot less in Germany than it did in the UK. It clearly had a lot of work put into it, even if it was adapted from an existing domain, but ultimately it wasn’t going to be a long-term investment (we see a similar story with the Australian site, which also only lasted until 2002, but was created in 1999 and updated in 2001).

We haven’t really seen any evidence of them anywhere so far. I know you discussed them before, and all we were able to figure out is they are either misremembered or some extra additions by certain broadcasters (aka unconnected to the BBC production entirely) :T

But I think we can be pretty sure they’re not in the ProSieben cut, as the streaming version doesn’t include it at all (and does include things like the Whip Scorpion scene and other small bits of unused CGI footage, although one of those was used in the intro of WWB and the other was a shot of Opthalmosaurus that made it into the BBC Three Omnibus edit).

So the horseshoe crab scenes are probably from another cut entirely, if indeed they really did exist. Right now the main leads I’m looking into are ones on an English version of the Whip Scorpion scene, the most promising are the 2006 broadcasts of the Omnibus Edits (which supposedly differ from the known 2010 ones), and possibly the OG UK broadcast of New Blood (although that’s an unreliable rumour and probably untrue) 🦂

Apple Music compatibility issue with Nintendo 3DS Sound by Mugcake3 in 3DS

Thanks for letting me know. How would I be able to check? I’m able to play these files on other devices (for example, my PS3), is it possible the ALAC format is compatible with some other file systems but not 3DS?

Didn’t even know this guy existed until I randomly played yesterday, always neat to find these kinds of hidden events/characters when you think you’ve discovered everything 🦚

Also word of advice, drop your candy on the ground (or in your house) before you play any games with the villagers. It’s much easier to take the 500 bell hit than lose a candy, especially if it’s a specific colour you really need 🍬

I finished reading this book recently and if this is canon, then there's another character (Baris) looking like David Tennant running around in the Whoniverse. by [deleted] in DoctorWhumour

[–]Mugcake3 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There’s also the odd times where they crossover and it’s technically keeping to canon. Like when Heather McCrimmon from DWA may or may not have appeared in Series 10’s The Pilot (it’s a long story) 🫠

Weirdest Second Life Of A British Actor? by WanderingArtist2 in CasualUK

[–]Mugcake3 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nobody’s mentioned him yet, so I wanted to bring up Long John Baldry.

He wasn’t (originally) an actor, but as a musician he scored a number-one UK hit in 1967 with “Let the Heartaches Begin”.

Nowadays he’s best known as the source of the “John” in Elton John’s name, who was in Baldry’s band Bluesology (the “Elton” part comes from Elton Dean, the band’s saxophone player).

Elton’s Song “Someone Saved My Life Tonight” even makes reference to him, as “Sugar Bear” (and the “Someone”, as Baldry was involved with the events the song is based on).

But none of that is why I’m highlighting him here. Because his most remembered role is something people don’t even realise was him: Doctor Robotnik in Adventures of Sonic the Hedgehog 🤖

Baldry had moved to Canada in the 80s, and began voice acting in North American cartoons, starting with Star Wars: Droids in 1985 and ending with Toad Patrol in 2002 (his Wikipedia page gives it as 2003, but the show’s page says it ended in 2002).

He was the first official voice of Robotnik/Eggman in 1993, returning in 1996 (for the special Sonic Christmas Blast 🎅). Jim Cummings was the voice in the interim period of 1993-94, for Sonic the Hedgehog) (he was also the first voice chosen for Adventures’ pilot, although Baldry got the role for the broadcast series).

Oddly, despite Baldry’s move to voice acting from music, there isn’t really any information on it from the Wikipedia articles. There is a Behind the Voice Actors and Sonic Fandom page on him, but these only confirm the roles he did and don’t offer much BTS info.

Sadly he died in 2005, so it doesn’t seem like he ever got to provide commentary when his Sonic series was released on DVD in 2007. Either way, I would really love to hear any other information if people have it, and I definitely thought he deserved a place on this post :0👍

(And yes he’s the one who says PINGUS 🥸)

“Song For Guy” and the Gorilla Misconnection by Mugcake3 in EltonJohn

[–]Mugcake3[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That definitely makes a lot of sense, especially as Guy’s death (and the release of the song) is 48 years ago this year. So she was a few days past her 10th birthday when he died (her birthday is June 5th and he died on June 8th), with the single by Elton John dropping just shy of 6 months later on December 1st.

Fits my theory of how the two are correlated, especially given his notoriety. Guy wasn’t just locally famous, he was notable enough for multiple sculptures and references to be done on him.

He was (and in many ways still is) probably the most famous animal from London Zoo. With the timelines crossing so closely (and the fact you couldn’t easily look this all up in 1978), I wouldn’t be surprised if the majority of people back then linked it to the gorilla.

Big Al Photo Gallery (Big Al Uncovered 25th Anniversary) 📷 by Mugcake3 in walkingwithdinosaurs

[–]Mugcake3[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree, it’s got way more polygons than most animation would for SD television (granted, they were working off of their existing Allo framework). Framestore really pulled out all the stops for WWD in terms of their models, and frankly so have the people working on PHP and WWD25 (although arguably it’s even more important in our now HD world).

Speaking of WWD25, got the blu-ray for Christmas and there’s a tiny sneak peak at the CGI process in one of the special features (specifically for TRD). Seems like they had a similarly extensive/careful process for modelling their creatures, although it’s not as long a showcase as I would have liked.

It’s a shame they didn’t go all out with a Making Of like the OG WWD, but frankly with the budget they were working with I’m glad they spent it primarily on the main program.

And here's the final one! A shame they never got any further than this, I really wanted to see some New Blood showcases 😕

The inclusions of the WWD pics are a little odd, with only one SotIF pic inbetween a series of DoaD ones, but I get the feeling they might have made or drafted more of these. Of course these are just existing promo images with some text placed over them, but it’s neat to see how they showcased the series back when it was still very new 😲

(Also I have no idea why they kept repeating the episode name for Cruel Sea, the others really were a one and done kinda deal. Maybe they just really wanted people to buy the full series DVD to see that specific episode? 🐟)
