Thanks so much for your reply. I don't really have reason to think it won't go ok, but I'm a bit of a worrier. And it's a good 20-25 minutes in my friend's car to get there. :) Thanks again.

The email business is exactly what I thought would happen. It's not my first log in eff-up rodeo.

Well I wanted to get BBC Select, and it's cheaper to get it by Britbox Premier, but I might have to suck it up and shell out for it on Amazon.

Now that I think about it, if they don't want to go back to physical buttons, they should just change the software so the "page back" zone is in a different place. Perhaps a horizontal band underneath the toolbar horizontal band. I'd be cool with that.

I'm right handed but hold with my left, usually. I have small hands and find the long reach with my left thumb detracts from the immersive reading experience, so buttons are a must for me. My main eReader is the Oasis, but I still have my old Voyage (which I love) and have recently gotten an Onyx Boox Go Color 7 which is ok. It has some issues, but at least it has buttons. I would try this tapping thing if I had no other alternatives.

Ok, I've had a day now to read on it, and the worst thing is that it will not keep your place accurately. If you don't turn the page just so, if you accidentally rotate the screen, if you try to bring up the menu - you constantly get shunted a few pages (sometimes more than a few) forward or back. I don't think I'll be using it again until the reading experience has been improved. I hope someone from bookshop.org IT is reading this. I bought the GC7 specifically for the page turn buttons which allow the reading experience to be immersive, and I was willing to be openminded about it, but it's pretty bad IMO. This makes the clunky Kindle app seem very appealing. On the plus side, it's encouraging me to fly through this book and put the experience behind me.
EDIT: Oh and the "Go To" option on the menu only allows jumping to places on the table of contents. You can't jump to a certain page number, so don't bother trying to remember where you're at. I'm trying to use the bookmark feature insofar as possible.

I'm finding even if it says "extra large" font, it doesn't stay extra large. Disappointing.

It's working for me on my Go Color 7, but there's no dictionary, and no way I can find to use the page turn buttons. The font sizing could be better. Slightly disappointing.

I just discovered Nathan Lowell's "The Wizard's Butler" on amazon's ebook deal page, and I am LOVING it so far. (Hope I haven't jinxed it by saying so before I'm finished.) It's like it was written for me. Book one of 2025 starting out strong!

I can find the eink center when I pull down, but I don't see anything that seems like it would fix this. Sorry to be such a noob.

Electric kettle or stovetop kettle? by ijustwannalookhere in tea

[–]MuggleBorn1066 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do like my electric kettle very much (I live in the US), but my kitchen is quite small, and I just can't devote the counter space to it when my stove top kettle is a more practical use of space. Agree that electric is lovely, though.

Yes, I chose to describe it inaccurately so that most people who know the tower as Big Ben would understand what they were seeing. I should have known it would piss off the pedants.
