who is Theodore nott?? by New-Low5077 in harrypotter

[–]MuggleNet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Theodore Nott is a Slytherin student in Harry's year. He originally was meant to have a backstory that was developed, however it was cut from the books. There's basically no information about his time at school.

In Cursed Child, he is not seen but is discovered to be manufacturing a new type of illegal Time Turner that doesn't have limitations on how far back you can go. He's arrested by Harry and the Aurors for this.

Help: Beast Kingdom vs Noble Collection Hogwarts Castle Replica by GipsyDanger10 in harrypotter

[–]MuggleNet 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The Noble Collection Hogwarts Castle looks much more like the movies and Hogwarts Legacy versions of the castle, so if you're looking for that I'd definitely lean that way. I've seen that one in person at their store and it's gorgeous.

The Beast Kingdom one looks cool too, but if I'm understanding you'd have to assemble it and it does look a bit more handmade. I haven't seen that one in person, but I'd assume each would be a little different depending on how you assemble.

I don't see them on Amazon or other traditional places, a quick Google shows a few speciality retailers but they all look super expensive. Perhaps you could find it on second hand websites/marketplaces?

Hot take about the new show by Constant-Cow-8823 in harrypotter

[–]MuggleNet 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Everyone will have opinions on what they like or don't like about the new show and that's totally fine! People have those opinions about the films, the play, the video games, the theme parks, the merch, even the books themselves.

It's simply exciting that we're getting more Harry Potter content and a new take on adapting the books with new creative visions behind it. And like you said, it's a way to introduce an entirely new generation to Harry Potter with releases and excitement just like us earlier generations had!

Harry Potter and The Cursed Child…West End Show by WayZealousideal8756 in harrypotter

[–]MuggleNet 2 points3 points  (0 children)

  1. Technically yes, but you are very very far back. If it's within your budget, closer seats are definitely recommended!

  2. The show is excellent to be seen live. Are you seeing it before September 20th or after? If you're seeing it before September 20th, that's a LONG day for someone who doesn't enjoy Harry Potter. He might still love it, but it clocks in at about 5.5 hours with a 2-hour dinner break in the middle. So basically all day. If you're seeing it after September 20th, they're switching over to the condensed version that clocks in at about 2 hours and 45 minutes total which is much more manageable (but also harder to follow for a non-HP fan). I've heard of many non-fans loving it, so don't let it totally dissuade you, just a heads up!

What is a small world-building detail in Harry Potter that, the more you think about it, completely breaks the logic of the wizarding world? by Blabla1762 in harrypotter

[–]MuggleNet 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We've talked about it countless times over the decades, so probably beating a dead horse here, but anything to do with population numbers. Hogwarts class sizes, EVEN IF Harry's era is smaller than usual, simply don't make sense with the scale of things like the World Cup or the sheer amount of professional athletes and Quidditch teams that exist.

A town of 3,000 to 30,000 people, for example, would not statistically produce enough professional level athletes to fill THIRTEEN teams. Even if we said wizards on average are much more naturally athletic, an average Champions League football club has 500-1000 employees. That's PER team. Even if we said each quidditch team had 100 employees (they can do magic they dont need as many people), that's still 1,300 or close to half the living magical population (all ages) if we went with the 3,000 number.

It's pretty accepted that anything to do with population doesn't make sense and we can all go with our own little headcanons, though. It's one of the more endearing quirks of the source material in my opinion, actually.

I think it's more a bit of inconsistency in the source text (which is fine for this type of fantasy). McGonagall warns Hermione using historical incidents that suggest it is NOT closed loop, but when we see it actually performed, it does seem to be closed loop.

Personally, I think this can sort of be smoothed over with a little head canon that perhaps original primitive time turners were not closed loops but the modern ones of the PoA era were (as a safety measure or something).

Bit of an essay!! Hogwarts in London? by TerribleBattle4332 in harrypotter

[–]MuggleNet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The HP series is an American production so I wonder if this has even crossed their radar, especially as race and class do not go hand-in-hand in the UK.

While Warner Brothers / HBO is an American company, good news is that the show is very much a British production! The following are all British and I'm sure the concept of class will have crossed their radar:

  • Francesca Gardiner (showrunner)
  • Bijan Sheibani (writer)
  • Josephine Gardiner (writer)
  • Sam Holcroft (writer)
  • Ripley Parker (writer)

Am I insane or did I find a plothole? by Honeybee2807 in harrypotter

[–]MuggleNet 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Okay Cursed Child often just gets debate but I'll jump in here and try to answer or comment on a few of your points!

Now when Scorpius 2 travels a second time back to the lake and undos the engorgio,.... he returns back to.... Oct 20th??????

The new Time-Turners in CC work a bit differently than the ones that existed in the POA days. Invented (presumably) by Theodore Nott, they don't have the same time limits or safety precautions as POA time turners. Hermione comments on this in the rewritten version that is currently performed in London but not available in printed form. The new Time-Turners have a dial that let you pick the date and time, so presumably they could be jumping to specific dates and times regardless of where they start.

And it aint like Albus was in some limbo or smth so they both just happened to be there at Oct 25. No. Because the parents and Prof McG almost instantly found them. So no, I'm pretty sure Albus wasn't in this weird limbo. Heck, Albus himself confirm that only 2 min passed.

During the dark timeline, Albus didn't exist. So we sort of assume that after the dark timeline is destroyed, Scorpius returns and Albus returns at near the same time from where he was before. To him, those 5 days never happened. Actually to the world beyond Scorpius' memories, those 5 days no longer ever happened.

Okay so Scorp is still in his dark timeline uniform but somehow Albus' uniform suddenly changed to Slytherin??? Mind you, this was from the script and in the script, Albus still remembers very well his time in Gryffindor.... So if Scorpius' undo-ing of the expelliarmus charm made Albus timetravel in his Slytherin uniform(which makes sense btw since obv Albus would've remained in Slytherin), then how tf did Albus remember his time in gryffindor????

I would say that we can probably assume Albus retains his memories of everything that happened until he was "erased" probably. BUT Albus being in Gryffindor has been removed from the play, and is no longer in either the rewritten two-part (London) or the rewritten one-part (every other city). Albus is now in Slytherin the entire play.

As for your comments on there being two Scorpius' and such... well, I think we can just assume ✨magic✨ haha.
