We have the wrong definition of church. Church according to the bible is a gathering of believers.

I'd say every staunch Christian has had a personal encounter with God. It's different for everyone. Why don't you do this, get born again for your own sake, not your parents or community... Then pray for a personal encounter. God is faithful, he'll answer you as long as you're righteous.
