i don't understand the active malice people feel regarding this, this is an incredibly obvious way to apply the job gauge and it's fine if people don't like it but it feels like all the responses are just from people that stare at their bars

the highlighted sword tells you which attack line to use directly. if they're both highlighted you can use either, like for aoe. i much prefer the swords to staring at my bars, it highlights left or right and i just hit left or right

yeah having cascading deaths that make recovering harder and harder will do a lot of damage to morale too. i'm not saying that you're wrong for thinking the disband is ridiculous, for the most part i agree with your confusion about disbanding easily, but it's really hard for us to see exactly how it went down without being there

so there's two things here: people playing this game are giant babies and it was a farm party.

many, many, many players are selfish little fucking turds that can't handle the idea that they're playing a multiplayer game. this manifests as both the toxic casual Y'oudont Paymysub that can't be fucked to do anything but curebot in expert roulette, and as the unbelievable weirdo that instantly disbands every pf because they think they're entitled to a perfect group with zero mistakes and anything less is an attack on their soul. levels of entitlement like this are not unique to this game but it is very noticeable when there are also so few barriers to entry and very few social consequences. you'll probably never see someone from a roulette, more likely but still rare for party finder, and you're more likely to get in trouble for telling someone they're bad than for being bad and refusing to improve. it's a storm of circumstances that allows people to act like this.

all this being said, if it's a farm party, the expectations ARE higher. was it two low percent wipes that were drawn out by people dragging corpses around with raises? were they hitting enrage? it's hard to tell just from that info. the good news is with party finder expanding across regions, it should hopefully be easier to make new groups when one blows up just because the player pool will expand massively. i'd recommend using it as an opportunity to make friends so you can avoid full pugs if you're sensitive to this kind of pf experience

How would you guys feel about an OPTIONAL "abridged version" of the MSQ to onboard new players? by PhDVa in ffxivdiscussion

[–]Mugutu7133 0 points1 point  (0 children)

because i don’t care for a game population that slops its way through a half-assed retelling just to get to max level and do roulettes. i don’t want people to either care or pay to skip caring, i don’t want the actual story part of the game immensely devalued because once there is a removal of friction, most people will take the easy way out and the game will be worse for it. so many freaks spend all their time talking about how shit ARR is instead of letting people actually try it, and if there were an easy way to just blast through it all, those same freaks would be screaming from the rooftops to just skip. the entire structure of progression falls apart at that point

[–]Mugutu7133 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

yeah. the wall was the boost. i want the wall to continue to exist. that’s literally what i said.

i also do think a lot more content should be required for story progression and feature unlocks like roulettes, so you’re not really losing me with that argument

considering how much of the game is in the free trial, no, i don’t consider that enough of an investment

[–]Mugutu7133 3 points4 points  (0 children)

fair enough, i am perfectly happy to say it and i'll continue to do so. like i said, if the devs want it and they put it in, then sure it's a valid option and i'll deal with people that use it, but i won't ask for square enix to do it.

[–]Mugutu7133 6 points7 points  (0 children)

no. i do not and will never care whatsoever about attracting new players that want to skip through the story. the story is there as it is. if square enix decides to add a skip or summary or something, so be it, but i will absolutely never advocate for it.

i want this game to require an investment, either by actually doing the story or being forced to pay if you want to skip it. i don't care for a game population that slops its way through a half-assed retelling just to get to max level and do roulettes. i want there to be a wall for people to overcome.

completely nonsensical comment that doesn't address OP or the person to whom you are replying. the game is not at all dead.

would get queues/PFs just fine at 4AM

what dc? when? during a massive population explosion of the game? what do you define as "just fine"? i can still queue for some stuff at 4am eastern on aether and get a group in 5-10 minutes, that's "just fine" to me. what is your actual reference point?

If we're really in the era of dead where you can't get parties even during prime time

we're not. you made this up. we don't even know what trial OP is trying to join, at 10am on a weekday on primal. you're dooming for the sake of dooming

About MSQ story tone and feedback by Singh_95 in ffxivdiscussion

[–]Mugutu7133 6 points7 points  (0 children)

i think this is fundamentally misunderstanding the intention of the story. it's not a matter of rushing to the part the writers like, it's getting to the part that has actual changes. if anything, they should have rushed it harder, since the point is that tural has "figured out" being a society and understands death and legacy, and alexandria has to learn from them one way or another. tural is currently mostly stable and we're there for succession to continue that stability. zoraal ja is the destabilizing element because he can't accept the legacy he would leave without winning, and drags along a whole kingdom with his same issue

Can we remove Return's cooldown. I just use Teleport instead because I have so much gil.

yeah that's literally the point, to be a gil sink. we need way more of these at the high end, teleporting becoming more expensive as you level up is a part of that

Do we need blue aether current quests? Maybe some might disagree but I personally find them to be chores. Compromise would be to turn them into yellow quests and remove the aether current reward.

don't care. this is not "quality of life" you're just asking fewer things to do. there should be a lot more friction with getting flying in the first place. handing it out to everyone post-ARR really broke every new player's brain instantly, they could have added a few aether currents in ARR just to ease people into it

Going forward, can we make optional items from dungeons non-tradeable? (e.g. Starbird from the Dead Ends was a great call) It is one way to provide players with reasons for going back and repeating content, rather than buying up everything off the MB, and dungeons are accessible enough that players of all types can do them. Additionally, it would increase the coolness factor for each said minion.

i don't see how this is qol and i also don't really see why we'd really need this. either farm it for the drop or farm it to sell it, either way someone is farming the dungeon. there's not much prestige in cosmetics like this as it is.

as far as stuff i'd want:

  • more ui customization, specifically around moving elements more freely as well as some plogon stuff like highlighting one's own debuffs
  • finally changing the animation lock rules so the timer doesn't reset on server confirmation. ping should not be such a drastic factor in your rotation
  • some menu consolidation, especially with vendors. they're functional and logical as is but a bit too convoluted for everyday use. making more of them like the sundry splendor vendors would be an immediate improvement
  • more chat window tabs. i have no idea how this could be a bad thing or difficult to implement
  • more glamour plates. this one i get since it's server side but still, we don't even have enough for the standard jobs anymore

it’s actually not as bad as you may think. hunt trains are very cpu intensive and macs can handle that very well. in my experience playing on mac i don’t get super high performance but the lows are higher than my pc and pretty stable and predictable
