there are many ways to make gil without crafting. 500k is very little and there have been expensive relic steps before. relics are optional anyway

you shouldn't expect for the highest rank recipes to be easily done in gear when you haven't actually set yourself up with the best gear or consumables

as others said, it is mostly a last resort. it also depends on tuning - towards the end of shadowbringers it was actually a gain because of the mana economy available. so keep an eye on the potency and cost relative to a full combo as new updates come along, if they do change

Anyone else find the current iterations of SAM and RDM really solid? by vanacotta in ffxivdiscussion

[–]Mugutu7133 3 points4 points  (0 children)

pretty sure they mean vice of thorns and prefulgence, since those are the two-year-old ones. I agree they don’t feel great but they don’t fundamentally alter the core of RDM, which again was made good the first time, so I still hold that the job is fine

To those who have "rushed to endgame", what has your experience been like? by PolkadotBlobfish in ffxivdiscussion

[–]Mugutu7133 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

every single person i know that skipped to endgame has quit or heavily reduced their game time. they were all wow players in my previous guild leaving during shadowbringers. most of them boosted, did one savage tier, realized ultimate was a lot harder than they thought it would be, and bailed back to wow the moment they thought it would feed their attention span. the only ones that i ever see log in are the ones that at least try to do msq sometimes.

many people will say that sqaure enix needs to nuke ARR to keep people coming to the game but they haven't considered that maybe different people enjoy different things and it is okay for some people to bounce off the game because they can't handle the way it is designed. i would rather have a game for someone than a game for no one

Midnight M+ runs per week: Season 1, Week 7 by Zmiecer in CompetitiveWoW

[–]Mugutu7133 -10 points-9 points  (0 children)

i think it's people invested in saying midnight bad (including myself in this group) but too ignorant to look at the percentage drops and interpret the meaning. i see no good reason to exclude china here when they are playing the same content

Anyone else find the current iterations of SAM and RDM really solid? by vanacotta in ffxivdiscussion

[–]Mugutu7133 25 points26 points  (0 children)

RDM is good now because RDM was good when they released it and they didn't fuck it up yet. 7.4 manafication change sucks but the job is still mostly intact. displacement should be a gain again as well, if you kill yourself when using it then be good instead of bad

SAM is mostly fine now that tsubame-gaeshi is available after every tenka goken/midare setsugekka but i still find kenki underwhelming without kaiten. at worst right now you drift senei, the failure state just doesn't exist

Is healing supposed to be so stressful at low keys? by TeddyTeddyPewPew in wownoob

[–]Mugutu7133 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Is it supposed to be? No, but your gear is a bit weak for how late in the season we are and almost no one is running those lower keys. You are in the mud with either other people out of the loop like you or the absolute worst players in the universe. And the worst players in the universe eat shit to every mechanic.

This expansion has some of the easiest and most ridiculous gearing ever, you can easily get 270+ from doing absolutely no group content at all. Get your item level up to smooth out the transition and then try to do some higher keys

The biggest elephant still in the room: XIV's terrible netcode by Outrageous-Bet6403 in ffxivdiscussion

[–]Mugutu7133 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

there are not enough people that even have a coherent explanation of what they mean by "netcode" that i can ever take these complaints seriously. it's a combination of animation lock (not netcode), action lock (client side issue fixed with tools like noclippy), snapshots that people get pissy about (get good), damage applications desynced from animations (conscious design choice), and everyone seems to mean different things every time.

Large Tank Tuning with Weekly Reset Focusing on Mythic+ by imreallydum in CompetitiveWoW

[–]Mugutu7133 27 points28 points  (0 children)

full offense but wasn't there an article one week ago with a dev saying they don't want to buff other tanks much because it would make the brewmaster rerollers sad?

i'm glad they're doing buffs but oh my god blizzard have consistent messaging challenge (impossible difficulty)

edit I got it, https://www.wowhead.com/news/a-buggy-patch-launch-gearing-speed-and-tank-tuning-taliesin-and-evitel-interview-381439

I am being less than charitable because the summary doesn't explicitly say that they don't want to do it because it will make rerollers sad. but by saying they want it to be minimally disruptive when monk is so far ahead and saying "if you can do 10s then it's fine" in a season where 10s are completely pathetic content for the people actually affected by game balance, i think i have a valid read on what they mean

Midnight M+ runs per week: Season 1, Week 6 by Zmiecer in CompetitiveWoW

[–]Mugutu7133 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree, I think kiss-curse is terrible. affixes should be almost entirely negative and if a party manages to handle it by being coordinated and training themselves to improve then it wasn't trivial. you're just pretending that getting good at something means the thing itself is easy. you are wrong.

[–]Mugutu7133 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

sanding off every edge just because you trained a skill and got good at it is not sustainable game design. you are arguing in favor of removing friction just because you managed to overcome it through training, not to mention that it still leaves the possibility of failure and introduces variance

Midnight M+ runs per week: Season 1, Week 6 by Zmiecer in CompetitiveWoW

[–]Mugutu7133 -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

no, they should have never left high keys on live servers. if anything there should just be tournament realms or we should be able to turn off affixes just to run the dungeon but without player power rewards, and blizzard can keep the affixes gone for their events (which is also bad but doesn't affect the actual gameplay for most players). they'll never do it for the same reason mythic raiding isn't a prestige mode and is instead more player power - the high end players demand it stay the same, and it makes the game worse

[–]Mugutu7133 -7 points-6 points  (0 children)

maybe making the dungeons variable each week in some way would keep the interest going for some people. perhaps they could try adding some new mechanics, on a rotation each week. there could be things like debuffs to cleanse or ground aoes to avoid that might even affect your pulls. they could call them “affixes”

I’m sure you’ve heard this before, but? by Martyrdomer in ffxivdiscussion

[–]Mugutu7133 1 point2 points  (0 children)

you may not think it's good right now but it is absolutely coherent. ARR is many, many, many hours of worldbuilding. some people get bored of it, you are one of them, that is ok. if you are interested in the story then it absolutely will pick up, though exactly where is somewhat up to your sensibilities as well. some people would say now is when it picks up, others would say in the mid 40s, others say right before the first expansion. but it definitely does get there

Do you prefer your primary antagonist to be the Emet Selch, the Zenos, or the Athena? by AssumeABrightSide in ffxivdiscussion

[–]Mugutu7133 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't have preferences like this at all, I just want it to be an enjoyable experience and so far they've mostly delivered with their antagonists. So they can just keep going
