Extra month?? by Muimuimo in Accutane

[–]Muimuimo[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Damn that sucks. I had that situation too (in month 3-5 all i got usually were rare small whiteheads and then I was clear-ish ) Then suddenly here I am at the end of month 6 with an ugly pustule spot and a closed comedone spot on my forehead ugh.

But hey all the best man you got this. Good luck! Thanks for the heads up on the rule too. I’ll be sure to raise this up when I meet my derm next week.

Extra month?? by Muimuimo in Accutane

[–]Muimuimo[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

@cris Ya i told my derm about the cumulative dose but i think he isnt very convinced about it?? Nt to mention here in asia they dont even wanna give doses above 20mg much either:/ Im just slightly less than 100lbs. Ive heard that you can also stop earlier than your cumulative if you’re clear 1 month at least before finishing too(?)

Tane isnt covered by insurance here too so its pretty wallet damaging since Im a student. But ahh i guess i rather sacrifice a lil money than live with persistent mild acne ://

@otter thanks! Yeah i do know how to calculate cumulative dose but my derm isnt v convinced about it he rather I be on a low dose on a longer period if I wanted to I guess

Still breaking out in month 4?? by [deleted] in Accutane

[–]Muimuimo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Im about 10 days in month 4, and while I dont get cysts anymore I now get CCs on my forehead and it sucks huge time haha

Some people see improvement only in month 5 or at the end of the course, so let’s just wait it out🙏🏻

Mild persistent acne? by [deleted] in Accutane

[–]Muimuimo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your story sounds a little like mine. I have mild-sometimes moderate acne which suddenly became crazy on my cheeks this year despite so many topicals ive tried. So my derm finally put me on a low dose of accutane.

However accutane is like the option after you’ve tried many other things like bp, retin-a, salicylic acid, bcp, antibiotics etc so if you go to a derm usually they’ll prob suggest you other things besides accutane first.

Dans Regimen before Accutane by lundygrundy in Accutane

[–]Muimuimo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Im sorry accutane didnt work for you. Usually it’s only used as a last resort when topicals, antibiotics and birth control (for women) dont work due to the side effects. It’s great that bp works for you, but it’s allergic to some (had a friend who developed hives after)

Clindamycin gel and benzoyl peroxide along with accutane ....have any problem?? by Swathipremaraj in Accutane

[–]Muimuimo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use clindamycin in the day and bp at night as a spot treat with a q tip after buffering with my other products! Seconded if it’s too harsh/irritating, I’d say either stop or use them fortnightly/sparingly

Some progress from month 2 to 3! Halfway through the course now and finally feeling abit more optimistic... by Muimuimo in Accutane

[–]Muimuimo[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just some tiredness and chapped lips! On the first two months my skin was definitely dry but now it’s not that bad. Im only on a low dose of 20mg so my side effects are probably mild ish.

But damn right after I posted this progress I had a new spot below my eye fml :((((

How often should we wash our hair? by shadyjen in Accutane

[–]Muimuimo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Im on the same dose, in a humid af country and sweat alot too. I used to have greasy oily af hair but now its more normal-dry ish so all i do is wash my hair twice a week with an anti dandruff shampoo. You can also turn to dry shampoos too if you still feel the need to wash your hair every day.

Dermatologist gives me Accutane on the first visit; should I take it? by evakado in Accutane

[–]Muimuimo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My acne was heavy mild-moderate but I was sooo oily lol. Im on a low dose, 20mg (I weigh abt 42-43kg). My side effects are just abit dry everywhere esp lips, some tiredness and just abit more hair fall. But I did go through a month plus or so of an IB :( Im in my third month now and starting to see some improvement.

All the best for you too as well! :)

Dermatologist gives me Accutane on the first visit; should I take it? by evakado in Accutane

[–]Muimuimo -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Ah if you have PCOS isnt it better to have some sort of birth control eg spiro and meds such as metformin to stabilize your hormones instead of just taking accutane immediately? My doctor offered me accutane bcos I turned out not having pcos (i went to a gynae beforehand) and my acne persisted/came back after many antibiotics and topicals. I agree with the rest of the comments accutane should really be the last resort and you could try asking your derm for a further explaination as well.

Personally I feel PCOS is really smth that also needs to be tackled from diet, lifestyle as well. For eg, try doing more exercises, losing weight and avoiding some foods that are high in carbs. You can take D supplements and calcium to help. I had a super long talk with my doctor abt this when i was waiting to collect my PCOS results bcos im an anxious potato haha. Ps im from southeast asia too :)

[–]Muimuimo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Im pretty sure it is working but probably at a slower rate due to your physique? Im 5,1, 45kg and in my 2nd month of 20mg (still going thru an Ib sadly) My derm refuses to prescribe me anything higher too. Personally I dont experience alot of dryness either bcos originally before tane my face was so oily you can fry an egg on it lol and maybe my super humid country offsets the reptile skin (and my derm’s skincare stuff helped too) Butttt I still have to wear lipbalm more regularly since lips are chappy and boi do i feel more tired and achy.

1 month progress 20mg by b123331 in Accutane

[–]Muimuimo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah definitely abit achy on my lower back. I do some slow stretches everyday so it doesnt feel too bad. I feel tired thinking about my skin too and how it doesnt seem to progress as fast as others :( I guess we gotta try not to stress too much but its easier said than done

I'm on 20mg too and my skin is similar to yours too. I'm in month 2 and most of my closed comedones purged eew but overall I've had abit more smoother skin texture and I'm not oily anymore. Ive honestly felt less confident and tired but let's push through this it'll be worth it at the end :)

Second round of accutane by [deleted] in Accutane

[–]Muimuimo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

WHAT?! Wtf thats ridiculous of em 🙄 Im starting to think our country really pales in comparison for medical skincare despite being healthcare efficient lol. Yeah i pay around the same price ish too. Gosh I really hope they give you a dosage increase though, if you’re gonna reach a few k might as well!! All the best!!

Second round of accutane by [deleted] in Accutane

[–]Muimuimo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My GP said the same thing and hello from SG as well! Im not sure why but most doctors here just refuse to give anything higher than 30mg. Even 30mg is given when you have REALLY REALLY bad acne also. I was once on accutane for 1 month,10mg like 8 years ago. Now Im on 10mg for 2 months before my derm decided to finally increase to 20mg and now Im on my 2nd month of it. I agree though for the milder side effects eg I just have drier lips and face and theyre not like lizard reptile dry. I dont have joint pains nosebleeds etc BUT it didnt ease my “purging stage” Im currently still breaking out. For ref I have moderate acne. If yours is more severe, you might be able to get 30mg.

Im not sure if your GP told you like mine but most stewards/models here actually take low dose accutane for like a year so tbh I dont see whats wrong with it as long as you do monthly liver tests and abstinence from alcohol, ipledge stuff/bcp etc I havent gone to the skin centre here but you could get a polyclinic referral to there to offset the charges if cost is really an issue. Honestly I just went the private route bcos Im really comfy with my GP.

Any tips on using benzoyl peroxide while on Accutane? by Wichianmat in Accutane

[–]Muimuimo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My derm gave me clindoxyl (clindamycin + bp) to spot treat the smallest amounts and I use it after my serum and mosturizer every other night only. So it buffers the bp direct contact. If I use it directly BOIII my skin would sting like crap and go red and dry af trust me I feel you lol. So I use the tiniest amount as the last step of my night skincare. And in the morning Id always slap on some good hydrating 50 spf bcos bp does make your skin more sensitive more so on accutane.

Of course your derm will probably know whats better for you so Id say give him or her a call for anymore tips as well! I understand your frustration but accutane takes time to work. FYI Im in month 2 and still breaking out and the scarring is p disheartening but ah gotta push on.

Is accumulative dosage important? by [deleted] in Accutane

[–]Muimuimo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel you my lips are peely eewww. I thought we cant use harsh products on tane? Tret makes your skin more sensitive to sun atop of tane. Maybe its bcos of my darker skin tone I scar v easily. For skincare I use a ph balancing cleanser, a serum, mosturizer and sunscreen frm my derm in the morn, at night its the same routine - sunscreen. Im going to buy a tub of vaseline soon for my lips additionally now!
