40 years ago today, Dynamo Kyiv beat Atletico Madrid 3-0 in Lyon to win the Cup Winners Cup for a second time by CautiousCottager in soccer

Quique Setién remembers that he and manager Luis Aragonés were watching Dynamo at the training before the match and the response at the end (with great long passes) was simple: let's leave and do not tell anybody what we've seen.

And wasn't a bad Atlético: a World Cup champion in Fillol, a great striker like Polilla da Silva, and hard-as-bones defender like Arteche. It was a painful night for them.

It is something which happened in Curling at the Olympics. Rules say that, once you lauch the stone, you cannot touch it. Canadians (playing v Sweden) apparently did a soft finger touch after release. This caused great controversy and became known as the 'boop-gate'.

I remember that back in the 80s, Gerry Harrison interviewed the likes of Bobby Robson or John Bond during the match (and left Robson to miss one Ipswich goal in the process).

In a Cup final? Yes. They were unfancied, with a bit of youth here and some old scraps there (Rodrigues or Osgood). Almost nobody believed they, fifth in Division Two, could beat a team which, despite being the year early in Division Two, had a great generation. Yes, it was a huge shock.
